  1. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 12:29 AM) Its who drafted him originally. Not only that, he grew up a huge Tigers fan.
  2. I've said it once and I'll say it again: if a good starting becomes available, we should acquire him. Contreras has looked pretty average this month, which is unfortunately still more than you can say about any of our other starters.
  3. We have to wait for this to play out on the field, but on paper this is an unbelivable trade. Jenks-Cotts-McCarthy-Riske-Thornton looks like a damn good bullpen to me. Most importantly, though, this still leaves us with all of our bargaining chips for another trade (hopefully for a starter )
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:36 PM) That's an awful lot of people you're calling retarded there, I am just one of a large amount of people who believe this. To have the type of year Willis had in 2005, it's just hard for me to believe it could be done with smoke and mirrors.
  5. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:30 PM) The vaunted pitching staff has 3 guys pitching like #4 or #5 starters. ^^^^^ That's why we need another starter. McCarthy might do better than all 3 of them, but I can't see Ozzie replacing "his guys" in the rotation.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) True, the funky motion would be good for confusing hitters but Shingo can only get away with it for so long. That he's a gimmick pitcher who will soon see his demise. Also that the funky delivery will end up destroying his arm. Didn't Willis win 22 games in his 3rd full year in the NL? Was he still able to trick people? Seriously, that's just retarded IMO.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:24 PM) That would be terrible. Willis is a "sexy" pitcher, but there's a lot of concerns about him. I thought he was back to form recently. What are the concerns?
  8. Fields, McCarthy, Sweeny for Willis? Would that work?
  9. QUOTE(Ndgt10 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) Fields, Garland for Willis. Florida wouldn't want Garland. He's got a new big ass contract.
  10. I would feel much better about this team if we could obtain another good starting pitcher. I recognize this probably won't happen, but hope it's at least due to no high caliber starters being available instead of KW/Ozzie stubbornly sticking with their guys.
  11. Oooh... Paul Konerko almost tied a 5-0 game with a solo shot. Good job, Paulie.
  12. Am I missing something? Is Rob Mackowiak off limits?
  13. Well, if Roberto Hernandez or Latroy Hawkins are going to cost us Josh Fields, I'll take my chances with Montero.
  14. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) probably Fields or Owens and maybe a pitcher like Lumdsen. Which available reliever(s) would you consider worthy of giving up Fields and/or Lumsden? I can't see any.
  15. In theory, you'd like to acquire someone better than Hawkins. But I can't see anyone that's better that would/could be available, and Hawkins is still a large improvement over Politte.
  16. I'm not sure why so many would care about Pujols one way or another. He doesn't play for the White Sox so there's minimal attachment on my part. Albert losing his hair at 25 kinda makes me wonder though...
  17. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:25 PM) AS I have already pointed out, Garcia's struggles have only come against the Indians and the Blue Jays (one game was were he was rushed through the rain delay.) On the flip side, one could argue Garcia's only good games have come against relatively weak hitting teams (Cubs, LAA, Minn).
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 08:54 PM) Freddy has an ERA over 5, and Jon over 6 now. I think our other 3 guys have obviously done a nice job, but are we going to have to give B-Mac a shot and/or make a trade? I mean it's Mid-June, these are no longer small sample sizes. I agree. I would have no problem acquiring another starter provided there's a great one available; I wouldn't do it for someone like Scott Elarton though. Pretty much think we should get the best pitcher available whether it's a starter or reliever. And then we could move Garland to the bullpen and hope he's more effective there (which he was in 2001).
  19. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) I wouldn't mind renting out Zito or, hell, trading for him, giving up Garcia and a prospect or two, and then trying to resign him. Yeah, especially with 2 of our starting staff cornerstones turning into s*** seemingly overnight. The long term outlook of our starting pitching isn't as good as it was at the start of the season.
  20. I brought this up yesterday, but I really think we should consider obtaining another starter, especially with some great ones (Zito, Willis, Schmidt) possibly becoming available.
  21. Another name: Armando Benitez. Has a ridiculous contract and really hasn't been all that good... but he is coming off an injury and we're desperate, I guess, so he is worth tracking. 4-0, 4 SV, 3 BLSV, 1.88 ERA, 1.67 WHIP.
  22. Maybe we should just get another starting pitcher? I say this because a) the likely available bullpen arms just suck ass and B) there's a possibility Garland could be an effective reliever (he did well coming out of the pen in '01).
  23. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) If you trade for Hunter, that's all you trade for. We will be spent. I would much much rather take a lower level CF like Brady Clark and still be able to upgrade the pen a good deal. Perusing the likely available names in trade (Hawkins, Guardado, Roberto, Mateo, Borowski, Stanton), I don't think any of them will cost a lot.
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 12:42 AM) I'm going to mention his name just because I have much man love for him, Mike Gonzalez (even though he's a lefty) would be so f***ing great in the Sox' pen right now. He's not leaving Pitt any time soon (free agent after '09) but I can still have my odd fantasies. His WHIP (1.57) sucks. I'd rather have Marte back.
