  1. QUOTE (DonkeyKongerko @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 09:30 PM) I'll watch but I have already begun the mental process of detaching myself from this team the past few days. If they win, that all goes out the window during the Cleveland series. See, that is a very difficult process to stop. I wish I could mentally "re-attach" myself for this Twins series, even if it is to feel the agony of defeat for one last time on the season. But I just haven't been able to do it.
  2. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 09:28 PM) That's because there's no debate the White Sox are choking. Everyone is in agreement. I don't think they're choking. They're just not a very good team; Twins are better (though still not very good themselves). We'll see what happens tomorrow. I thought the Sox would get one game. Doesn't look like that now but we'll see...
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) Theres no vest needed. Sox still control their own destiny, Ive held out hope for crazier things than that before. Technically, both teams control their own destiny.
  4. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) Hell yes I'm watching. I will go down with the boat if I have to. At least put on a life vest.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) Why would you not watch this game? It's the most important game of the season. You've watched over 150 games to get to this point, and you're going to chicken out now? I will not watch the game tomorrow. Nor have I watched any games over the last 2.5 weeks. This team is making my decision easy with their s***ty play over the last month. All they're playing for is the right to get bounced in 3 straight after the weekend.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 09:06 PM) This series is doing nothing to quiet the talk that Konerko and Dye lost all their fire after 2005. Well, they had their best season in 2006. The problem is they're just old and bad. We have an ungodly amount of money comitted to an aging core of declining players. I still think this season is far from a successful season. 4 young players does not a team make. The Sox are going to need a lot of help if they want to be contenders again.
  7. Our lineup is something like 1- token speed guy swinging for the fences 2- guy who occasionally makes contact outs 3- power hitter swinging for the fences 4- power hitter swinging for the fences 5- power hitter swinging for the fences 6- power hitter swinging for the fences 7- non-power hitter swinging for the fences 8- non-power hitter swinging for the fences 9- non-power hitter swinging for the fences
  8. I feel like I should be angry but I'm really just apathetic, which actually sucks even more.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) It's been a productive season for this organization. We had very little to look forward to for the future when April came around, and now we have 4 players in Quentin/Ramirez/Floyd/Danks that can be cornerstones for the next 3-5 years. So in that sense we're just about like every other team in baseball with a couple of good young players. We're going to need more than 4 players to compete. The rest of the team is crumbling.
  10. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 08:29 PM) Yeah, it's too bad it may end so badly, but man what a great season. No sarcasm. I only hope people who are resorting to ludicrous histrionics are prepared for a lot of ridicule should anything suddenly turn. Why is it a great season? This is not an up-and-coming team. The core of this team is in their 30s. There is nothing good about an old team coming close and missing out.
  11. Is there anybody still left on the "Javy is our best pitcher" bandwagon that was pretty popular earlier in the season? I wonder. As for the Sox, they're 13-16 over their last 29 games. This hasn't been a good team for a long time, not a good team on the road, and not had a lot of success against winning teams all season. A Twins sweep wouldn't surprise me. I think someone mentioned it earlier in the thread, but this is not a team that's worth stressing over because they just aren't very good. You will end up disappointed in the end. I think I realized that a couple of weeks ago and have been much happier ever since.
  12. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 09:16 PM) I guess you are right. Did not realize that Cleveland is over .500 now. And forgot about the Dodgers. On the other hand, I believe all 3 of those teams had sub .500 records when the Sox won those series.
  13. QUOTE (G&T @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) 3 series I think. Tampa, Cleveland (they are 1 game over), and the Dodgers. I guess you are right. Did not realize that Cleveland is over .500 now. And forgot about the Dodgers.
  14. By my calculations, we've won 1 road series against a winning team this season (which is pathetic). So I'm not getting my hopes up for this series. I will be fine if we win one game. Just don't get swept.
  15. I think we should start more pitchers on 3 days rest.
  16. The Sox MVP for September has been the Minnesota Twins. No one has done more to make sure the Sox stay in 1st place.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 10:12 PM) Here's a question....if you can get a big time 3rd or 2nd baseman this offseason, do you keep him? Where are we getting a big time 3rd or 2nd baseman?
  18. In 2008, I'd take Wise anyday over BA and his long loopy swing.
  19. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) f*** YOU OZZIE HIT BA HERE NOT PIECE OF s*** WISE SCREW YOU AND YOUR GOD DAMN MATCHUPS. f*** you Ozzie!!!!
  20. God, please don't do this to me today White Sox. I've already had the equivalent of 7 minor heart attacks during the Bears game.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) And Scott Linebrink really sucks. Gives up a homer to AAA bat speed Hessman. See, when I said that I was overreacting.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 08:11 PM) Well, I was never one to buy lottery tickets. Let it soak in for a second Even if said tongue in cheek, you are still suggesting you'd rather the Sox miss the playoffs rather than "potentially" getting swept in the playoffs; that would mean that you are rooting against the Sox winning, and thus...well the rest is self-explanatory. Absolutely absurd. I'd also like to know where you got your "1 in 6 series wins." They have, at the worst, lost this one to Toronto though nothing has been settled. They beat Anaheim; that's 1 of the last 1. They lost to Cleveland (on the road); that's 1 of 2. They lost to Boston (on the road); that's 1 of 3. They BEAT Baltimore (on the road); that's 2 of 4. They lost to Tampa Bay; that's 2 of 5. They swept Seattle; that's 3 of 6. They beat Oakland; that's 4 of 7. They swept KC; that's 5 of 8. They also split the previous one with Boston and then beat Detroit too. Whose schedule are you looking at, exactly? Seeing as how they've won 5 of their last 8 series, I'd say you got your facts screwed up somewhere. That stretch also included a 10 game road trip too, and the Sox are not a very good team on the road whatsoever. At best a split with Toronto; that's not a series win. So 0 for 1. Beat the Angels. 1 for 2. Lost to Cleveland. 1 for 3. Lost to Boston. 1 for 4. Split with Baltimore. 1 for 5. Lost to Tampa. 1 for 6.
  23. Wow. Didn't see that coming at all. Very impressive win and one that makes me more optimistic about this team's chances down the stretch.
  24. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 05:10 PM) The Rays had to suck for years to get their guys. Are you willing to lose 100 games, 5 years in a row? I'm not. Huh? I was just stating a fact. Gomez, Casilla, Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer, Span, Young, Kubel, Harris, Baker, Blackburn, Liriano, Slowey, and Perkins. That's 14 starting players under 30. By comparsion, the Sox have 7 (CQ, Alexei, Swisher, Buehrle, Danks, Floyd, Richard). I can buy a couple of those guys as underachievers but they still have better younger players than the Sox.
  25. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 10:31 AM) I still think we'll all look back on this year as a positive, either way... because we went from being old and decrepit to having two budding young hitters come about, and two promising young pitchers come about. This is very true. We went from a team with basically zero young talent to actually having some good young players (CQ, Alexei, Danks, Floyd). Though in comparison to teams like the Twins and Rays we are still generally an old team.
