  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:48 PM) Considering we're the best team in baseball and nobody else has improved themselves at all, it's definitely not a terrible thing. Ron Schueler could not have said it any better.
  2. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) Braves pull trigger for relief pitching, getting Farnsworth from the Cubs for Roman Colon and minor leaguer Zach Miner. OMG. Jim Hendry just ripped off another GM. He got a good arm for a guy that wasn't even on his roster.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) Well, we didn't have a back-up 3b....so he fits what this team needed. I never said I didn't like the trade.
  4. Didn't Kenny give a whole spiel about not trading for someone unless they're a special player (for chemistry reasons, of course)? Is Geoff Blum is a special player?
  5. In no way am I satisfied with Uribe because he's been just awful, but Ozuna is nothing more than a MLB backup. Uribe is better defensively, and this being SS, you have to keep him out there until (and if) Kenny decides to upgrade that position.
  6. When the Sox return home, they should do a "turn back the clock to 2001-2004" promotion night for the fans to commemorate the team's recent play: only scoring off HRs, costly errors, lack of execution, bad baserunning, etc.
  7. Is Vizcaino even available to pitch today. He pitched the last 3 games. I guess we could go with Duque, and just skip his turn in the rotation because of the off-day.
  8. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) DJ made a comment that he wouldn't mind seeing Jeremy Affeldt in the Sox system. Translation: White Sox are talking to KC about acquiring Affeldt. Stop 2nd guessing DJ.
  9. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:31 PM) You don't know what you're talking about. He tried to get a bunt down on his own, then tried to shoot a good fastball into RF. The comment was about effort. He did not give a half ass attempt, he didn't execute. Sorry, but you drive me nuts with all your 2nd guess s***. Again, please look up the meaning of 2nd guess. Thanks.
  10. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) He gave it a couple of shots. At least there was a solid effort there and not half-assed. He had a bad bunt attempt and then pulled the ball to the SS. How is that not a half-assed attempt?
  11. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) Wow if I am Buddy Bell, Donnie Murphy's ass is glued to the bench. 1st pitch swinging on a pitchers pitch. If only Ozzie had that policy half our team would be benched.
  12. 23 pitches for Hermy. I would let him go another inning.
  13. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) He wants to use hard throwing righthanders against hitters like Manny Ramirez and Mike Sweeney, not too unconventional. I don't mind bringing in Politte to face Sweeny today, although I would have been comfortable with Cotts in there as well. Neal's numbers against righties are just as good as Politte's, so I have no idea why Ozzie doesn't feel comfortable with Cotts against right-handed hitters. And I think you just called Jose Vizcaino a hard throwing right-hander?
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) I don't know. Bringing in Cotts in the 8th inning to get a lefthanded hitter out, that's pretty normal. Bringing in Politte to face Sweeney, that's pretty normal. Marte for what, 1 2/3 innings? Normal. Hermanson to try and get Sweeney? Seems normal to me. Cotts is not a LOOGY, he can and should be allowed to pitch to more than just one hitter. I just really have a problem with the way Ozzie uses him.
  15. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) Well that was far too easy of an inning, seeing as we had the top of the order up. Now you've got Hermanson for one inning. Jenks and Vizcaino are left. I think Hermy might have to work 2 more, depending on how he gets through the 10th. He only threw 1 pitch to Sweeny.
  16. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) Is anybody else getting worried about Politte? He's not been good at all recently. He's been overworked. I'm not worried at all.
  17. Top of the order coming up. This is probably our best chance to get something going and win this thing.
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) This would be looked at as the dumbest move ever if it backfired but I'd walk sweeney. I wouldn't. You never want to put the winning run in scoring position. The odds are still in our favor that Sweeny will make an out or at least single.
  19. Perusing the stats, Marte has given up 21 BBs and 28 H in only 29.2 IP. How the hell is his ERA so low?
  20. I think Cliff might be tiring. He's been worked pretty hard lately.
