  1. Going by OPS, we have 5 hitters in our lineup that are inferior to the weakest hitter in the Boston lineup. That means Doug Mirabelli could be our #5 hitter.
  2. Common sense says Jon should be done but that's never stopped Ozzie before.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) You do know he leads the league in assists this year. He plays really shallow in Fenway.
  4. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 08:14 PM) This inning shows the difference of Garland this year. You better not jinx him.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 08:00 PM) I'm all for Rowand in the 2 hole the rest of the year. Put Iguchi in the 5 spot, and let him drive more runners in. Pods is fast enough to be able to get moved over on just about anything Rowand would put into play. I don't know about that. Rowand isn't what I would call a great situational hitter, and will be even less effective when forced to take strikes for Podsednik to run.
  6. I think I could seriously punch myself in the nuts 3 times and it still wouldn't hurt as much as watching this team play the last 4 games.
  7. QUOTE(ChiSoxCE2005 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 07:39 PM) Hey..uh, who's Nick Burns? sorry, just got here... "You're welcome!"
  8. I'd easily take AJ Burnett pitching for one of the Cubans over a bullpen acquisition.
  9. Tim Wakefield vs. Left: .193 AVG/.581 OPS vs. Right: .297 AVG/.883 OPS Christ, does Ozzie even think about these sort of things when loading up the lineup with left handed hitters?
  10. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:51 PM) Fathom ... go back to right before it happened and please show me your post where you call for Cotts to be brought in to face Manny Ramirez. Damned easy to say you would've done it after the game is over. If Cotts had screwed up you'd have a whole Ozzie Sucks thread going on right now, admit it. C'mon. BTW, if you're saying that Cotts was a bad idea against Ramirez because of the lefty/righty matchup, then how was Vizcaino facing Ortiz a good idea earlier in the inning? Cotts should have started the inning, no questions about it.
  11. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) Put a cork in it 2nd guesser. If you were the manager, sit there and tell me you bring in lefthander Neal Cotts to face Manny Ramirez in a tie ballgame. If Cotts had been brought in and Ramirez HR'd you'd be the first one here screaming at Ozzie, and you damn well know it. Stop it, please. Vizcaino did not execute but no one is bringing in Neal Cotts to face Manny Ramirez in that situation except for an internet message board 2nd guesser. Vs. RH Cotts - .133 AVG/.496 OPS Vizcaino - .240 AVG/.676 OPS Based on those numbers, I guess only a lowly message board poster would think Cotts is better against right handed hitters. Your assumption that every LHP is automatically tougher against lefties is frustrating, but looks to coincide with Ozzie's way of thinking. Whatever, you obviously did a good job explaining your point by simply s***ting on me. And how is it a 2nd guess to want to have the better pitcher pitching in that situation?
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:38 PM) No, get them a shortstop. Gload fits this team better than Frank anyway (you can all bash me all you want, but Frank is playing selfish right now with his approach). Not copmlaing about the season, I'm loving the season, but with the way Frank is playing, Everett should be the regular DH. Plus Gloadie is my favorite player and quite frankly he's a good hitter. He's gonna help this club out. Now if only they can get Vizquel or Freel cause Uribe is just awful at the plate (great defensively though and I still like him). I'm with you on Gload. I wish he could Frank's ABs, but I bet they'll be more limited with Carl and Timo getting more PT now.
  13. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:34 PM) Well let's see. Ramirez was coming up so you want a righthander in there, no one can convince me that Neal Cotts should've been in there period. Why? Cotts is way better against righties than Vizcaino. I don't even understand how someone could take this position.
  14. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:31 PM) I wanted to puke hearing "Let's go red sox" in our park. We desperately need a Garland win tomorrow or we might get swept in front of full houses four nights in a row which would be disgraceful. I think 6 of 7 is pretty close to disgraceful already.
  15. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) We send down/dump Shingo for not doing the relief job, but Vizcaino has been just as bad. So inconsistent except with the game on the line and he consistently chokes. Losing Shingo's translator doesn't affect chemistry, I'm afraid. Check Vizcaino's birthplace...
  16. I can't stress how sad it is to constantly watch us s*** our pants after finally getting some good fan support. Kenny better not be sitting on his hands during the deadline.
  17. I'm not even that worried about this. Even if we lose, it's still only loss #32 (and 6 out of 7 at home) and it's the middle of July so that's pretty good. Let's just get them this weekend when we have the Cubans pitching.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 09:50 AM) The Sox have got to decide whether or not its advantageous to acquire Vizquel right now, when they wouldn't offer him a 3 year deal in the off-season. Sure he probably contribute next season, but what about in 2007? I would bet that even in 2007, Vizquel will still have a better year than Uribe's 2005. Of course that type of comparison is only relevant if the Giants would consider taking Uribe and his 3 year contract off our hands.
  19. Man, I just saw Griffey annihilate a Kerry Wood meatball right into the RF seats. I understand that his contract is ridiculous, but if the Reds pick up some of the change, it wouldn't be a bad move.
  20. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 05:17 PM) Hey, any team running into Douglass and Robertson will have a difficult time scoring. Right? But don't worry, it's bound to get easier in the playoffs. Rarely will you face good pitching. I'm not worried, any time you get loss # 31 (while losing 5 out of your last 6 at home) in the middle of July, you can hold your head high. With Contreras and Duque, I like our chances against Boston.
  21. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 05:16 PM) So he would have not walked those two batters in a row in even more of a pressure situation? He was throwing pitches a foot off the plate... if those would have suddenly been called a strike because the game was within one run i would need a new t.v. There's also the possibility that Trammel might have gone to another reliever sooner instead of letting "the Farns" stay out there.
  22. Damn, we're finally getting huge crowds. They deserve better.
  23. Haha. If Ozzie didn't have such a boner for trying to get Freddie the win, we might still have a shot.
  24. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) Well, I wouldn't discount us. They are a good hitting team, but we have more HR's than them. I wouldn't like our chances in a slugfest, but I do think we have capable players if needed. I don't even find the fact that we have that many HR's impressive, not when so many players on the team are constantly swinging for the fences.
