  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 27, 2005 -> 08:04 AM) Anyone know our realistic chances of getting Todd Helton or Adam Dunn? I don't know about Dunn, but Helton has about $100 million left on his contract, so I'd say the chances of Kenny trading for him are slim and none.
  2. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ May 27, 2005 -> 05:12 AM) I'd go after Chavez, even if it meant (gulp) trading BMac. If McCarthy is for real, I would not make that trade. After tonight we'll have a better idea of McCarty's potential, but a solid starting pitcher is worth more than a third base upgrade, at this point anyway.
  3. QUOTE(skidoochic @ May 27, 2005 -> 06:32 AM) Not to be too stupid here, but if Everett is hitting something like .400 right handed why in the hell is he batting left handed? I know pitching matchups and stuff, but when the game is on the line, wouldn't you rather take a chance on a bad matchup with a .400 hitter? I read yesterday that the Sox lead the AL against left handers - .299 I don't know how it breaks down by player (if someone knows where to look, I'd appreciate it). As mediocre and sometimes awful as the batters look out there, they hit lefties a ton. I guess this is to be expected with the abundance of right handed hitters, but I still find this stat to be very strange, considering the overall performance of the offense.
  4. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 26, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) I am not sold on Konerko yet. Far too many less than two outs and RISP sitiuations he has bungled for me to get excited about ten games. I don't blame you for not getting excited, but he is the team's hottest hitter over those ten games. 2-4 last night with a 3 run dinger. 1-3 tonight with a double. He's doing his job right now. There are others who aren't, so I'm more inclined to jump on them rather than blame Konerko. If he goes back into a slump, then he deserves to be criticized, but I'll wait until that happens before I complain.
  5. If that wild pitch didn't bounce right back to Molina, we may not be discussing this either. It was a quirky game. Contreras pitched well. Cotts pitched well. They struck out what? Eleven batters? It would have been nice if the Sox hit better, but luck played just as much a part in this game as anything.
  6. Konerko is hitting .395 over the last ten games, so you may want to exclude him from the triangle.
  7. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 26, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) Pretty sad when .260's is considered good for any player in any month... We are lucky pierz is getting on at his current rate, .30 points higher this year from his batting average than his career. Rowand has also been less than exciting. Like I said, he's sucked in this series. Before Anaheim, he was hitting .300 with a .600+ slugging for May. Rowand is hitting .293 in May. That may be less than exciting, but it's not less than I'd expect from him. The Angels have one of the best pitching staffs in the league. The Sox hitters will do fine in Texas.
  8. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 26, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) Its getting to the point where everyone from 4 on down to 9 is an automatic out. f***ing sorry!!! That's a little exaggerated. Konerko has hit in nine of the last ten games (.395) Dye sucked in this series, but he's having a good May. Crede, Uribe and Everett fit your description, but the others haven't been that bad.
  9. Farmer described the home run pitch as down and in. Was it really a mistake by Contreras, or did that guy just go out and get it? This was just one of those weird games. Iguchi getting thrown out at the plate. The other play at the plate (third actually, but you know what I mean). I'm not down on the team. Two out of four in Anaheim is a moral victory at least. Cotts looked good. The Angels pitching is very good. The Sox will score plenty in Texas.
  10. I like to read the comments at CBS. There are always the predictable "It's early" comments. While this is of course true, I wonder how long it will take before people stop saying it's early. Something from the article I wasn't aware of. The Sox lead the league in BA against left handers - .299
  11. I'm not sure what the criteria is, but I'm surprised no one mentioned Bill Veeck. Also, as far as baseball minds go, Charlie Comiskey is somewhat the equivalent of Halas in football, being one of the founders of the AL.
  12. Same, except 2B Eddie Collins SS Luke Appling RHS Ed Walsh Closer Hoyt Wilhelm
  13. I'm tellin' ya, it's nice to be spoiled. I can't believe I get upset when the Sox fall below .700. Well, they're back over - 33-14 .702
  14. Good game. Great dingers by PK and Widge. Excellent start by Freddy. Hermanson still perfect. I'll say this though. I'd rather face Clemens than another Angel rookie pitcher.
  15. Pardon me, but the title of this thread is inherently redundant.
  16. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 25, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) Welcome to soxtalk. Thanks. Fan since '67. (I turned 10 years old that September. Right about the time the Sox blew the pennant.) Cut my teeth in the gawd awful years of '68 through '70.
  17. Going on recent memory, Billy Koch. The '68 - '70 teams stunk really bad, so I'm sure I could find someone from those squads.
  18. There are many players left out of the poll, so I'll write in Eddie Collins with Ed Walsh as a close second.
