QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 03:23 PM)I have nothing on Score and people on Whitesox.com are lying all over the place. Seriously, we need to find out if someone heard Levine.
I heard it, he was on the Tom Sher (sp?) show earlier today where he said just what was posted. The Griffey rumor is "red hot" right now and he thinks that Griffey might be in a Sox uniform by this time tomorrow. The players have been agreed on, the Sox bumped up their financial offer, they need Griffey to come out publicly and say he's in favor of this so the Reds' fan base doesnt hate the new management.

I bet it's going to happen, against all odds. When it does happen all the Bruce Levine haters will have to eat crow because he's been on this story for weeks and it'll finally have come to fruition.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 03:17 PM)nice analysis. Did you work all night on that?
Sometimes the best answers are the most simple.

QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 06:38 PM)obvoisuly you have not been following the exploits of Kyle Lohse this year. He is either really effecient with his pitches, or he has innings like that first inning and only goes 5 and throws 110 pitches
ROFL get a load of Hawk going off on Moronotti!!1!

QUOTE(spiderman @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 09:46 PM)I think the Mets would pull back their waiver claims on both both Beltran and Martinez....
Probably. But I'd still love to have him.
-
QUOTE(Spiff @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 06:06 PM)Would you want to assume Pedro and/or Beltran's contract? I wouldn't. f***, I don't feel like bailing Omar Minaya out of his mess.
I'd love to have a true #1 pitcher with playoff experience and a ring like Pedro. They dont come cheap. He nearly threw the first no hitter in Mets' history today.

QUOTE('94WorldChamps @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 11:07 AM)Still healthier than Junior.
Ray Ray has missed twice as many games this year as Griffey has.
-
QUOTE(kdhargo @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 08:39 AM)Not that this is a shopping list for the White Sox, but here are some big-named players that have successfully cleared waivers:
Pedro Martinez, Carlos Beltran, Ken Griffey, Jr, Jorge Posada
Full list of NY players to have cleared waivers.
Why would the Mets put Pedro on Waivers?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 09:32 AM)Crede will sign an extension or at the very least go to arbitration. I could see him getting like a 3yr 12 mill deal though.
The question of course being whether Boras thinks that's enough for Joe Crede. I think not.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 11:59 AM)Now Milledge goes to the Sawx, Hanley to the Red Sox, Heilman to the Sawx, and Lugo to the Mets. THis per espn, not done yet though
Who is Milledge?

Deadline for the Manny deal is in one minute.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 09:26 AM)The problem is this deal won't happen with the Mets just giving up that little. The road block is supposedly that the Red Sox won't do it with Looper being included. So basically for Manny and two prospects the Red Sox want Huff, Cameron and Looper. That's three above average major league players. That is a lot, and I don't blame them. This is probably why it has to be a three team deal, because any team wanting Manny would be a competitior, and would have to give up too much to remain competative. Ie, the Cubs would have to give up roughly Burnitz, Walker, and Dempster to get Manny, and eat his whole contract.
The Red Sox are sending Manny AND two prospects, remember.
Random thought: too bad Pedro Martinez isnt on the market
-
QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:46 AM)The Mets are getting a bigger discount because they aren't in the American League.
I find it a little bit ironic that Manny wants to be traded because of the lack of off the field privacy in Boston, so he's going to New York.
-
A proposed three-team deal involving the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Tampa Bay Devil Rays "hit a roadblock" Friday night, according to a baseball official familiar with the discussions, and now appears unlikely to happen at all.
The deal proposed would have sent unhappy Boston slugger Manny Ramirez and Tampa Bay closer Danys Baez to the Mets, with the Red Sox acquiring outfielder/designated hitter Aubrey Huff and outfielder Mike Cameron, and the Devil Rays getting two prospects apiece from the Mets and Red Sox.
If this is true and ultimately ends up happening, the Mets would be getting Manny Ramirez and Danys Baez for Mike Cameron and two prospects. That's a suprisingly low price, considering some of us on here have been saying it would take a couple current starters and a couple high level prospects to get him. If you take Tampa and Baez out of the equation, it seems as if we could get Manny for a starter (Rowand?) and a midlevel prospect because of his ginormous contract.
Discuss.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 03:58 PM)Holy crap, that's my bad Adam. I apologize, for some reason I thought I was in the Manny thread. Sorry for jumping at you, I'm a f***in idiot.
's ok, I still wub you guys
In a manly, heterosexual kind of way, of course.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 03:55 PM)Are you serious??? In the middle of a playoff race they're going to trade Manny for Aaron, not a f***in chance. Manny's not going anywhere this year cause a playoff contender isn't going to give up there whole team to acquire Manny. In the offseason there's definitely a chance he could be traded though.
wtf is with you people? You see I was quoting him talking about GRIFFEY right?
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 03:53 PM)They wouldn't trade Manny in the middle of the season without getting comparible ML talent in return as well as good minor league talent.
Last I checked this was a Griffey thread.
-
QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 03:27 PM)Griffey ain't coming here. He's a running-out-a-groundball, snapping-a-hamstring, injury waiting to happen. Not to mention his insane contract. The Reds will be asking for the Charlotte and Birmingham pitching staffs as well as Garland and Buerhle for him, too.
Not happening.
Are you serious? They'd probably take Rowand for him straight up just so they can get that contract off the books. It wouldnt surprise me if they put him on waivers after the season.
-
QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 10:16 PM)just a heads up, on the radio today there was an ambigous rumor that was about how a trade may happen before the trading deadline between the sox and some team in the MLB.
Sorry for being an ass, but c'mon.
I'm pretty sure that post should have had a [/sarcasm] tag after it.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 11:38 AM)For Manny? LMAO. Just the fact that you would think Everett would ever go back to Boston is laughable. Not to mention the fact that it would make no sense for the Red Sox seeing how they would be recieving nothing of substance in return.
Um, no. He just listed the "scary" hitters in the lineup and didnt mention Konerko and Everett.
So uh...keep on LYAO?
-
Konerko and Everett?
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:43 AM)If taking on Griffey's contract was funny enough, well I'm rolling on the floor laughing about someone taking on Manny's.
Griffey hasnt played a full season in like five years. Manny has.
-
QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 07:16 PM)i'm willing to take the risk on griffey right now
winnAr.
You know that Cincinnati wants to dump his salary too. Rowand for Griffey, straight up.
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 03:10 PM)I think that would be the only reason... if Lowell could get his s*** back together over the course of the final 60+ games it could be steal-city.
I said it before and I'll say it again: look at his batting average by month this year:
Mar/Apr: .198
May: .202
June: .250
July: .294
He's getting better, even if the power is still nowhere to be seen.

Did you take a survey or something?
And color me impressed, I had no idea we had so many certified radar gun experts here on Soxtalk. You'd think this was a physics forum or something.
