QUOTE(Stocking @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:43 AM)If Shingo is to be moved, what effect do you think this will have of the Gooch? Im sure Shingo made life much easier on Tadahito and will be missed.
I wonder what effect it'll have on our efforts to recruit Japanese players in the future.

QUOTE(bighurt2719 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:44 AM)mags was good, but power baseball doesnt work.
Arent we pretty much on pace to hit as many homers this year as we had last year?

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 05:00 PM)Does anyone on this board realize Magglio not taking the White Sox offer turned into a very good thing for the White Sox? The bitterness is puzzling. He did us a favor. I believe his reception will be mixed. There will be the boo birds, but there will be a lot of people who will appreciate his accomplishments in a White Sox uniform. Hopefully, no one will do something stupid. It is half price night.
I agree. IIRC, Maggs didnt ever take swipes at the fans or the rest of the team, just Guillen/Williams/Reinsdorf. The only thing I hold against him is picking Boras as his agent, which of course sealed his fate with the Sox. Other than that, it's nothing but good memories of Maggs for me. I'll have my Sox hat on and will be applauding from the sixth row, right field line.

QUOTE(UofIChiSox @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 12:17 PM)Alright, this is a stupid question, but is it Beckett or Burnett who gets freakin blisters every other game?
It's probably Burnett, he has a harder time staying healthy.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 03:58 PM)When I look at Lowell, I look at a guy who I'm really starting to wonder if he can find whatever he lost...for whatever reason (take your own guesses) he has plummeted in quality at the plate this year.
His numbers right now this season are WORSE than Crede's in every single category except for number of walks. Crede has more RBI, a much better average, higher OPS, more runs scored, in fewer at bats than Lowell.
If you're frustrated by our hot and cold 3b, you'd be doubly frustrated by a guy who has basically been cold ALL YEAR. And on top of that, he's a clear downgrade at 3b.
This one would be a mistake, I don't care what you say about Burnett making up the difference.
Well, look at two things with Lowell
1) His average by month this year:
April .198
May .202
June .250
July .290
2) His career stats. Between 2000 and 2004 he never hit below .270 and averaged 25 HR and 100 RBI. Pretty solid stuff, maybe he just needs a change of scenery.
Also, the Phillies just hung a four spot on Burnett in the second inning.

QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 03:42 PM)I dont believe score said anything
Heard it this morning on one of the news update blurbs. The midmorning show, whatever it is. The Marlins want an everyday player and it makes sense to swap third basemen.

QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 12:15 PM)I really hope we don't trade for AJ UNLESS we immediately get him locked up because he is going to cost us a lot.
The Score said that the trade would be Burnett and Mike Lowell for McCarthy, Crede, and another prospect or two. Didnt specify the prospects.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 01:03 PM)I can get tickets down the 1st baseline right now. Nice try.
Down the 1st baseline...two rows from the top of the upper deck.

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 05:37 PM)2B is Roberts guys
Yup, you're right. That was just off the top of my head.
I'd like to see him pull these stats off next year too, though.

QUOTE(mwolfson @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 04:58 PM)A-Rod has turned his back on America after Bud Selig screwed up the all-star format again and decided he will represent the Dominican Republic in the 2006 Baseball Classic... Anyone want to discuss possible TEAM USA roster minus A-rod. Talk here
Starters: Peavy, Willis, Clemens, Buehrle, Prior
Closer: Wagner
CF: Damon
2B: Jeff Kent
SS: Derrick Jeter
3B: Mark Tiexiera
1B: Derrick Lee
C: Joe Mauer
RF: Brian Giles
LF: dunno off the top of my head, maybe Pods

QUOTE(TimoandAaron @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 05:24 PM)I know how MB did, but what about the other 3?
Pods got in for one half inning as a defensive replacement in the ninth. Garland was nervous and got into a jam, but escaped unscathed. Konerko struck out and had a quote after Peavy got him, something like "wtf kind of pitch was that?"

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 10:55 AM)I remember seeing this retard outside the Cell last year when the sox were in first place. I remember coming out of the parking lot and seeing some dolt dressed up in full cub gear and then I heard it. The idiot was yelling Cubs WOO Cubs WOO.
Now flash forward to yesterday. Inside the Cell, there he is again. In full cubs gear. Who let him into the park and why. Its bad enough when we get the cubs fans in their full cub gear throwing balls back and booing the sox, but I draw the line at the toothless bum that the northsiders adopted as a mascot. Maybe SouthPaw can kick his ass.
OMG They actually made this dork a website. Terrible
Its not bandwagon, he goes up to Milwaukee for a few Brewers games each year too when the Cubs are out of town. Why he does it, I dont know.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 07:57 AM)So what does that make the Sox when they pissed themselves there earlier this year..??
Oops.
After this past weekend, they're definitely back in the Bush League.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 04:32 PM)I'm wowed by Burnett's stuff, and I have yet to determine how this is a bad thing?
See Kerry Wood. It's easy to be wowed by his stuff, but he's a thrower, not a pitcher. [/steve Stone]

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 05:40 PM)Jimmy Piersall? Wasn't he fired for making stupid racist comments on air at one point?
Heh, that was Jimmy the Greek.

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 01:09 PM)Schilling is the closer.
Just until he's healthy, not for the long term.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 11:07 PM)Frank: 0.246 AVG, 10 HR, 18 RBI, 0.357 OBP, 0.710 SLG, 0 SB, 17 H in 24 G/69 AB
Vlad: 0.348 AVG, 15 HR, 48 RBI, 0.405 OBP, 0.607 SLG, 6 SB, 85 H in 64 G/244 AB
You're talking about a guy who has only had 70 ABs after sitting for 11 months. This is Spring Training for him, give him another month or so to get readjusted.

QUOTE(OilCan @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 10:35 AM)That's what Boston said when Toronto came calling back in the 90s.
Wasnt it Ron Schuler who said that Clemens was washed up and that he's rather have Jamie Navarro?
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 02:40 AM)For starters, they will never eliminate the fan vote.
What about having the fans vote for the backups? Or maybe giving the players a veto power over the fans' choices of the starters? We shouldnt have this BS like Nomar leading the NL SS voting, it turns the game into a sham.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 07:48 PM)I didn't know how the whole barefoot thing would go over on the red line.
The dude can walk on water, I dont think he'll have any problem walking on a couple of empty Colt 45 bottles.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 09:40 AM)Well, I suggested picking up lefty Mike Stanton when the Yankees release him. How does that move look now?
For $3 million? No thanks.
