  1. Evaluating every decision Ozzie has ever made isn't gonna prove anything right now. Every manager will have his share of good decisions and his share of bad decisions. Ozzie made enough good decisions in 05 to help win the WS. Thats a fact. He made enough good decisions to warrant being the manager for quite awhile. Then he made really bad personal decisions to let his family do whatever they want and it cost him the Sox gig and it will cost him the Marlins gig.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 11:09 AM) I'm not too sure about that. Quintana was specifically called up because of the day that it was in the rotation, and he was the only minor league starter who was on the 40 man roster, who also had his turn coming up in the rotation. With different circumstances, it is pretty easy to imagine a scenario that keeps him in the minors all year long. Remember the kid was at High A ball, and wasn't anywhere near a "top prospect" for the Sox. I could probably name 10 guys who could have gotten the call up before he did if the circumstances of his call up weren't so extraordinary. If he was in high A ball, wouldn't there be guys in AA and AAA with their turn coming up in the rotation? Why did Q get the call before them?
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 10:12 PM) This is the utter opposite of the feeling I had in 2005. As happy as I was then I am as mad/sad now. This is what it feels like to follow a team that totally collapses without a whimper. Sad. I'm really bummed as well, but it became apparent the last month or two that this team isn't a World Series team. I did think that we were a playoff team, even up until this week before the losing streak reached the epic proportions.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) Lucas Harrell's had a more impressive season than Buehrle has. We are obviously better off without Buehrle's usual 200+ innings and below 4 era.
  5. Fact: Our pitching staff had plenty of injuries and Q ends up coming up either way. MB over Danks was the right move. Danks has not done much to show that he deserves this contract. But if Mark wanted Marlins money from the Sox, then ofcourse you have to let him go. But if he gives us a hometown discount with a contract in the same ballpark as Danks, I'd take Mark. Regardless of these last two statements, if Danks stays healthy or we have MB instead I think this is going down to the final game of the season at the very least.
  6. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 10:50 AM) The offense shrivels up and dies over the last month and you think that MB is the difference maker here. Its like being presented with 2+2 and you answer October. If we sign MB instead of Danks, MB pitches the entire season which Danks misses most of. That adds up to a few more wins in my book. Regardless of the collapse, we have a better lead then 3 games before it all went downhill and are competing for the division in this last series if not still ahead.
  7. Cutler is like AJ, he can't win no matter what he does.
  8. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 02:50 PM) We have a mini-fridge that we bought when we got our first pop-up camper back in 2002. We didn't use it everyday but it still works. Now it sits in a shed behind our 32-foot camper and keeps our pop and bottles of water cold. They don't make 'em like they used to!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 08:21 AM) Damn it. I forgot they were f***ing up this season. So how do people think it is going to end? -Skyler turns in Walt? -Hank/DEA figures it out? -Mike or Jesse kills Walt? -Walt finally gets caught doing something stupid? -Cartel kills Walt? -Cancer comes back and Walt dies? I'm thinking the cancer will come back and it will cause Walt to take even more chances and act more destructive. He will make a mistake somewhere and be killed/arrested.
  10. If the Cubs were having a season like us that year, they would have blamed the strike on a curse
  11. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 03:34 PM) I'll assume this is sarcasm. Adam Dunn is a very unique player. His contact rate is obviously terrible if he's batting .208 and has a zillion strikeouts. But when he does hit the ball, it goes a long way (it's a good thing the back of the Skydome wasn't open...that ball might not have landed yet). I think I saw a stat last night that his career BA is around .240, so he's quite aways from that right now. But he has more HRs than anyone in baseball right now. So, no he doesn't suck at baseball, but he can be a very frustrating player to watch. 2011 seems to have been an anomoly, however the BA is still frighteningly low. I'd like to see him boost it back up to near .220, but I'm not sure that'll happen. But if he hits another 15-20 HRs this season (with some of those in key situations), we may not care as much about the BA. His OBP is only 4 point below Rios, who has the highest avg of any active player (and just behind Paulie). So he is getting on base as much and hitting more home runs and getting more RBI's than Rios. Looking at one stat can be deceptive, even if it is as important as average. I'll take the RBI's and HR's any day as long as they aren't mostly in garbage situations...
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 02:09 PM) That knee injury looked horrible when it happened and we were told it wasnt. Now its lingering into the season. Hmm. NIce work Bears. Kind of like when no one even knew Cutler was injured during the game last season, and all of a sudden he is our for the year...
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) And those eyewitnesses would be liable for failing to report, if they ever came forward. But if there is any sort of evidence at all, they could be forced to testify.
  14. Why do Toronto games start at :07 instead of :10 or :05?
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 07:52 AM) karl ravech ‏@karlravechespn Chris Sale very much in Cy race w/ Price, Verlander and current front runner Weaver..Verlander has numbers which get lots of attention/votes Would need a collapse by Weaver and a semi-collapse from Verlander imo.
  16. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 10:30 AM) I personally think he somehow survived...but that doesn't mean he did just because I believe it. I think that's the great thing about movies like this, there is always some sort of room for interpretation. Did he live, didn't he live...if it was cut and dried like so many of you are trying to make it appear, isn't something the entire Internet would be discussing. It's not that cut and dried. That's all I'm saying. It's interesting to think about for those of us who have loved this trilogy. I love the trilogy as well, I'm just saying I think the ending was pretty straight-forward in my opinion. I can see people discussing the ending in this way because of Nolan's history with ending movies and people's obsession with over-analyzing the Batman movies. I think the ending was pretty black and white, and that doesn't take anything away from the movie in my opinion. I thought it was a fantastic end to the trilogy and a good ending to the movie.
  17. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 09:37 AM) SPOILERS This person goes further into depth on these thoughts... "While the auto-pilot is fixed, it is certainly suggestive but obviously it does not explain how batman escaped the bat with five seconds to go before an atomic bomb with a radius of six miles goes off. Saying he survived because he's Batman is a lame explanation. Alfred's reaction to seeing Bruce alive after thinking he was dead is so calm rather than overwhelming or emotional which suggests that perhaps it is a dream or fantasy. In the end, it is very difficult to tell, there are so many clues which could make either scenario possible. I am sure others will perhaps add factors that I have missed but for the moment I am 50/50 about whether batman survived or not. Until I hear a good argument of how he escaped the Batwing/Atomic Blast with five seconds to go, generally, I do not see how he could possibly survive." If he wanted to leave it up to interpretation, I don't see why there would be any need to mention the autopilot being fixed. If it was not mentioned I would question whether or not it was real, but since they made a point of it I think it is pretty obvious that the scene is real.
  18. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 09:08 AM) Nothing. I just thought it was cool. It is cool
  19. Ok its about that time now. Who is going to Lollapalooza, what days, and who are you trying to see?
  20. QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 10:06 AM) What was this, now? It's a straightforward enough phrase, so I'm assuming there was some little sprinkling of mentalness to make it special. After Dunn's homer I believe, Hawk did his home run call, said the score , then yell "ITS ALL GOOD!" It was during the same inning when the right fielder obviously didn't catch the ball and the umps reversed the call from safe to out at first.
  21. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 09:21 AM) Not that Buehrle would do it, but isnt there a clause in contracts that say you can opt for free agency if you are traded in year one of a multi-year deal? I doubt he would considering how much he got paid because of the Marlins spending and his market value being so high last year
  22. "Its times like these I wish I could cuss!"
  23. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:12 AM) Saw it Monday. Debating on taking this chick I use to "kick it with" to see it this weekend. Since you have already seen it, you can feel alright about cutting a hole in the bottom of the popcorn box and know that you didn't miss anything you haven't already seen
