    QUOTE (juddling @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 07:15 PM) I thought the Shield's last season was pretty awesome. I would have thought for sure Walter Goggins would have gotten an Emmy nod for it. He was awesome. It was sad to see but not unexpected to see Vic throw Ronnie under the bus. (Almost didn't recognize Ronnie the other day on Leverage) Like a couple others here I'm quickly working my way through the first few seasons of Mad Men. I'm just past the halfway mark in Season three. All i can say is that kid Glenn is damn creepy. Goggins is good on Justified as well. Vic throwing Ronnie under the bus was just a choice between Ronnie and his family. The last half of the final season is some of the best tv I have ever seen, which made up for the lackluster previous season. One of the best shows seasons 1-7 that anyone could ask for though.
  2. Easy decision. One is a "grinder" and one isn't. Bring back the grinder rules!
  3. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 05:06 PM) I could care less if they ever beat the Twins if they win the division. Every pro sports team has an opponent that owns them. Not beating the Twins is always magnified because the Sox squander other opportunities where the games vs. the Twins become too important. They've repeated this pattern under two managers. The difference is we play the twins a lot more than we play the Red Sox.

    QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) I've yet to see competent HR people, and I've had internships at 2 companies (one does $17 bill a year, and the other around $7.5 bill) and a university. HR in theory should be a competive advantage in acquiring, training, and keeping talent, but all I've seen is them shooting themselves in the foot more than anything. Our university relations people here are not great either, they take a long time to get back to people, but I blame that on lack of human capital and resources for that department. You can't expect great things when you've essentially got 1 FT employee for all university relations. HR has a lot of legal issues to worry about and lawsuits to avoid

  7. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 04:43 PM) He has driven more than 64 runs twice in his career and never more than 77. He is not an RBI guy so there is no reason to bat him above 7th. Adam Dunn has more RBI than him this year. AJ also has scored the least amount of runs on the team. There is no situation where he should bat hitter than 7th, ever. Well there are 2 lefties in the every day lineup besides AJ. One can only bat leadoff and one can't make contact with the ball. AJ at least puts the ball in play, which is better than the strikeout machine known as Adam Dunn. He is giving us the best chance to drive in runs from that side of the plate unless you would rather bat 5 or 6 righties in a row.
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 10:27 PM) http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/40-things-t...ke-you-feel-old I really want some Surge right now!
  9. Do on-site interviews. Career fairs have often become a place for companies to just tell job-seekers to "apply on their website." Showing an immediate interest in potential talent will make candidates more interested in and excited about your company.
  10. Does anyone know of a good credit card to accumulate frequent flier miles? I just want to know if there are any out there that are worth it and actually a good deal for someone that would like to get a free roundtrip flight at least once a year.

    QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 17, 2011 -> 09:09 AM) So yeah, in retrospect, bad season of Survivor. Rob just dominated... completely dominated. I'm disappointed to hear season 23 will bring the awful Redemption Island twist back, along with 2 more returning Survivors. They need a fresh season, with little to no people under the age of 27. Watching these 19-21 year old girls be used for entire seasons and make zero moves is getting really, really old. I don't know, I was getting sick of the best players not winning. The last 3 winners were a joke. They were all weak players who didn't do anything. I enjoyed watching Rob dominate a season and win. I am all for Redemption island going though. It was pretty pointless. And unless one of the returning Survivors is Parvarti, I could care less.

    QUOTE (iamshack @ May 12, 2011 -> 12:54 PM) Flying to Portland Monday for an interview. Took them a month to get back to me after the phone interview. These employers really know how to screw with you... They don't seem to realize that they lose a lot of good talent by waiting so long sometimes.

    QUOTE (Art Vandelay @ May 10, 2011 -> 09:12 PM) Really wanted to go but being out of work for a year now and not being an SIOP member, it would have cost me $375 for registration alone and I think another $100-$150 to use the job services. I was afraid to take the chance, given the money issue. I have attended a couple of CIOP meetings though and I will attend more as they become available. Oh yeah I forgot how expensive it is for non-members. I am a student affiliate, so it is real cheap for me at the moment, but that won't last for long.

    QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 9, 2011 -> 12:18 PM) My wife has a PhD in I/O. Works for a large insurance company in their organizational development area. For that field, bear in mind that both SIOP and the local Chicago equivalent group for I/O both have job boards, specific to your area. I'd take a look at that if I were you. Yeah SIOP was just in Chicago this year. Lots of interesting stuff and tons of chances to meet people in the field. Also, CIOP has networking events about twice a year and meetings/speakers about 4 or 5 more times. A lot is about networking right now, especially in an economy that continues to be stale. That is what something online schools lack, but there are opportunities such as those mentioned above.

    QUOTE (juddling @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) Damn! Justified just gets better and better every week. (ok...those couple episodes with Winona taking the money wasn't the best) hard to believe that next week is it's season finale. Yeah they tend to let it get a little boring in the middle with the first few and last few episodes being exceptional.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 3, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) FWIW, M-56 is now #14 on the list of active career win leaders, and that list doesn't tell the whole story (includes some guys like Pedro, who are quasi-retired) He also has a better ERA than 3 of the top 5, including 1 and 2.
  18. If he ever gets to 200 I think he will have a chance. A perfect game, another no-no, a WS ring (with a save). He has done a lot of amazing things and I would say he could be 50/50 if he gets to 200.
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 11:54 AM) (in this case, it's predatory capital-ism!) Anyway, I really don't see how this would happen, because the people most likely to fight for minority causes are the same people fighting against these schools. Why would they suddenly switch and want to bring these schools that benefited only their shareholders back? I agree here. The ism words have done a lot to slow progress in a lot of things, but I don't think this will be one of them.
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 11:38 AM) This is an issue at CC's as well since they must accept everyone, but they're charging a fraction of what these online universities do and they're not pressuring people into it, either. Also the online universities accept these people into bachelor degree programs, whereas community colleges only do associates degrees as far as I know.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 11:23 AM) And which schools do you think will disproportionally accept disadvantaged minority students? Its not on the basis of race for sure, but you can bet your ass it will be turned into a because of race argument down the road. Sure it will. I would also bet that the government could generate some statistics (default rates, employment of graduates, salary, etc) from minorities of the schools that become ineligible for aid and make it a short argument. I'm telling you, some of the students that go to these schools are at about a 2nd grading reading level. The online schools are a joke.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 08:00 AM) And who is the most likely to default on their loans? (Its a guess, but I bet it is right) Even though it makes sense, I bet the program gets labeled racist in the next 10 years when it starts disproportionally affecting minorities. I don't see how this would be identified as racist? They aren't going after those defaulting on loans, they are going after school that are being irresponsible with their program and admissions. The results should be less defaulting on loans by minorities. It is actually pretty upsetting that taxpayer money is used for loans given to students that some recruiter at University of Phoenix manipulated into paying $15,000 for an associates degree.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 04:47 PM) Schools like Phoenix and Kaplan target the poor for exploitation. This. And Tex, the credit is only checked when students request a plus loan (graduate or parent plus). Subsidized and unsubsidized government loans usually cover tuition and plus loans are for those who need extra money.
