  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 04:44 PM) The funny thing is that we were 5th in runs scored coming into today, STILL. Living off the first 9 games, but these last 12 games have been among the worst streaks in White Sox history in terms of offensive ineptitude. You're right, just reviewed the Sox's schedule...from games from April 1-9 the Pale Hose scored 59 runs. Since April 10th, the Sox have only scored 38, with 9 of those coming off the win in Tampa this week. That's almost a quarter of those runs in one game. Talk about extremes here.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) I didn't know you could cancel Extra Innings...? I was tempted before when I lived in the US, but I never actually tried to cancel because I still enjoyed watching other teams play. At this point if I had EI I'd watch me some Albert Pujols, some Yanks baseball, Rockies baseball or whatever else than this softball team we have on the south side.
  3. QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 04:38 PM) I really don't know whether to be pissed or just laugh. You'd think at some point that these guys would be embarrassed...hell you have other team's announcers mocking them like they did in Tampa. I really don't know what to say at this point...so I'll probably say nothing which is probably best. All I do know is I need to just walk away from these dipsticks and check back at the end of may as to whether I want to cancel my Extra Innings and invest any more emotion. If heads don't roll soon...I'll lose all respect for JR. What a lifeless POS team...and they've been this way for the past 3-4 years. I want to put it on the players (which it should be)...but if you have a bunch of lifeless, clueless coaches...who is held accountable? For the first time in this Ozzie/KW era, I'd say...All. All of the coaching/managing people have GOT to go. I don't care if it's early anymore. I demand RESULTS. And I'm not getting them. Fire them all. Except for whatever reason, Don Cooper. Good pitching coaches are hard to come by.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) This team sucks. As the immortal Jack Nicholson said in Batman: "THIS TEAM NEEDS AN ENEMA!" *TWEET TWEET*
  5. *Sigh* I miss baseball on the South Side. We've officially become the Flubs. A comedy of #$%#$@$#%
  6. Actually, Soxtalk posters are the best around. It's pretty fun...well, rephrase. When the Sox win, good times. When they lose, it's a cross between watching a car to train wreck to Laugh Out Loud Night at the local comedy club.
  7. Okay fine. Adam Dunn it is to blame. Sheesh. I give up.
  8. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) I never said anything to the contrary. You're all reading wayyyyyyyyy too much into what I've said. If you like facts, how about these? FACT: Dunn strikes out a lot. FACT: Dunn doesn't manufacture runs. FACT: Dunn clogs up the bases FACT: Dunn will NEVER compete for a batting title. FACT: Dunn HAS NEVER won 81 or more games in a season. FACT: Since adding Dunn, the team's defense has gotten considerably worse. FACT: Dunn CANNOT bunt at all. None of this is disputable, and it is the exact reason why we need to drop this dead weight sooner rather than later. Actually, Felix, I would like to dispute some of these. 1) Dunn K's a lot, indeed. That's not disputable. For every 4 ABs, not counting including walks, he strikes out once. 2) Dunn DOES manufacture runs. According to Baseball reference dot com, he has manufactured 868 runs scored in 11 baseball seasons, an average of 97 per a 162 game season. He also has 885 Runs Batted In, a 162-game avg of 99. Your statement, then, taken at face value, would be incorrect. 3) Dunn is not a burner, a Rickey Henderson-type. True. He also has no stolen bases in the last 3 years. However, from 01-08 he had 59 stolen bases. Not bad for a guy his size. Your statement can be disputed. His SB success rate is near an impressive 80% within that timeframe. Again, he's not a burner, but his role is clear...he's not here to steal bases. We can also dispute your #3 statement by going back to #2 on the runs scored and the RBIs he has hit for. 4) Dunn will never compete for a batting title. This I cannot dispute. He does have a career BA of .250. His high strikeout total will hinder his BA too. 5) Dunn has never, ever won a game, nor 81 games in a season. The reason is that he's not a PITCHER. He's a hitter. Leave the wins totals to those who pitch. 6) Dunn has only been a DH doing his six whole games with my beloved Pale Hose. So, your #6 statement is disputed. Being a DH does not add anything to a team's defense. Only offense. 7) Dunn cannot bunt at all......disputed. How can we really say this if none of us ever seen him attempt a bunt? Again, his role is not to be a sacrifice bunter. It's to swing the bat to drive in runs, and to help the team by scoring as much as possible. I will also add the following facts as to why the White Sox have been after this guy for a bit: 1) His career OBP of .381. 2) His walk total helps his OBP and OPS (which a career avg of .902 is not too shabby), thus HE IS helping the team manufacture runs. 3) Being a left-handed bat brings value to a predominately-right-handed-batting lineup. 4) He can spell Paul Konerko at 1b from time to time playing in the field. He has done the 1b before in the National League, as well as he can play the outfield. So he brings in added value to spell the OFs once in a while. IMHO, your "facts" are more frustration towards the Sox overall than just one player. And remember, Dunn did sign a four year contract, so get used to seeing Adam Troy Dunn in the Sox's lineup.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 11:25 PM) Trout certainly would have been considered the more aggressive pick, considering that's what their new drafting philosophy is supposedly. They were probably wanting a leadoff hitter that's closer to the big leagues then some high school player. Well, that high school player is now in AA, and Mitchell is at Winston-Salem. Yes, I know he missed a year, but still. I'm just not feeling Mitchell will be anything. Hope I'm wrong, but it's still going to take a couple years to find out. Two years ago I said a sleeper prospect for the 09 draft was Brandon Belt, the 1b from UT. I'd seen him on TV and in games in person to say that with his sweet swing, he could have been a solid pickup for the Pale Hose. Instead he fell 5 rounds plus a few comp rounds before SFG drafted him. My two cents is that it's useless complaining about baseball drafts anymore. It's a crapshoot.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 10:47 PM) You don't bring in Adam Dunn to have a team that plays small ball. That's just baseball stupid. THIS. Agreed. With Pierre and Becks as your 1 and 2, Dunn should be seeing runners on base, not nobody on base and one out because of a sacrifice.
  11. Some good news observations from the game highlights: *Nice swing by Gordon Beckham on an absolutely nasty breaking ball from Anderson. That pitch started eye-high and just DROPPED by the time the ball got to the plate, but Gordo with a great golf-like swing to punch it in the outfield. It also helped that Josh Willingham ran a wrong route to the ball in order to help Juan Pierre to score from first. *Kevin Kuzmanoff was our Juan Pierre in the A's infield - bad choices of defense in the 6th when Ramon Castro was at the plate, Kooz should have thrown to first but attempted to throw the pitch to home to attempt to get Carlos Quentin out, but it didn't work; and a bobble/throwing error in one motion to help get another run in. *John Danks = STUD. Ozzie should have learned from last night, should have said "screw the pitch count, I'm riding you Fifty all the way." Just my opinion.
  12. Just saw Crisp's 10th inning RBI hit against Thornton...again, catcher is calling for the ball low, near the inner half. Thornton gives it up right down the middle. Sheesh. 96 mph cheese.
  13. Rock, I swear that this post that I'm going to do isn't retarted. All I needed to see was the highlight to Thorton's pitch versus Cliff Pennington. 2 outs, top of the ninth, bases loaded, WS still up 4-2. The catcher (forgive me, I was at work when all this crap happened so I don't know who's catching back there but the "game lowlights" are on the WS Vid Site http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?g...rss_cws)....the catcher wanted the pitch LOW and inside, so that if Pennington tried to swing at it, it would jam him. Instead, the pitch was high, outer half, elbow high. Pennington got enough to get enough. Location, location, location. Thornton clearly is struggling. I haven't seen the other game lowlights, but that's really all I need to see. Now what? Is Sale ready? Is Santos?? Is there a Plan C?????? Just asking not sarcastically this time.
  14. hubba hubba hubba, way to get a win!!!!
  15. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:48 PM) Would look great. To be fair, lots of teams passed on him, as he was playing high school ball in New Jersey and because of the short and cold spring, many teams did not see him enough. On a side note, the Angels scouting director who drafted him was fired this off season. Hi how are you doing, my name is Ryan Sweeney!!!!
  16. Remind me again why Sergio isn't the closer...or Chris Sale, or...#%$#@%$# never mind.
  17. Mike Trout would have broken his ankle in spring training, or gotten a torn labrum or something if we drafted him.
  18. Charlotte 4-3 winners, Viciedo hit a homer. Gallagher 4-4. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...dubaaa_chraaa_1 Montgomery 10, Birmingham 3. My AAP Nevin Griffith didn't do so well. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...biraax_monaax_1 Potomac 4, Winston-Salem 3. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...wswafa_potafa_1 Kannapolis 5 Delmarva 3 T2 hit a homer, Ross Wilson 3 SBs. Upchurch with the SV. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...kanafx_delafx_1
  19. So let me see if I had this right. Thornton, who's blown more save opportunities than coverting them in his career (17 saves, 23 BS in his career) is the WS closer...why?!?!? Sheesh.
  20. sorry it took so long to get back but I just sent my 20.
  21. File this in the "why does this not surprise me" file. ESPN - past midnight - John Kruk says Manny would have been better as a relief pitcher which is what the Sox really needs. Bobby V called it "a desperation act" and "it won't help much." Just sayin'. Chumps.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) Wow, Rios hammered that. BTW, x-rays negative for Beckham!! Good news on the X ray.
  23. mmm....CARLA. Meanwhile, Alex hits a towering double to right CF, scores OMAR. 9-6 Sox.
