  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) I heard Skille has been struggling this year, still true? Depends on who (or where) your information from, ie. which web site. But, Coach Mike Haviled (sp) from the Rockford IceHogs commented greatly on how far along Skille has come. He may not be tearing up the AHL at a point per game pace, but he is learning on how to play a complete game first, then scoring second. IMO, he'll be fine. A year in the "A" won't hurt him. Dowell will add some more grit in the lineup. Wonder what kind of game Versteeg will show Thursday in Calgary.
  2. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) That's funny, I was thinking the same thing, except instead of Barry I was thinking Timo. LOL, that's funny. You know, with 13 Barrys, I was thinking then who would we have for a leadoff hitter, but DUH.
  3. No. And let me tell you in Spanish. No. That guy is just waiting for a Tommy John anytime soon. Plus, can the guy locate his toes, much less the rubber on the mound?
  4. Lemme get this straight. Trading Garland for any one or a combination of....Luke Scott, Towles, Qualls, or ?????? Scott has some good tools, but the deal just doesn't strike me as a "Make the deal KW" type of deal. If Towles is as good as some have portrayed him, just my two cents to make me feel better, but just how good is he? There's got to be more to this if the Garland to the Astros rumor turns out to be true. And by the way...Love to get Hunter Pence, a good fit for the White Sox as a grinder-type player. I've seen this kid play on TV during this past year, and he's a good, exciting player all the way around. If there's any way we can get this kid from the Astros, then I'll be excited.
  5. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 09:43 AM) Wonder if KW and Reinsdorf would ever think about hiring Purpura as Asst. GM? I'd take Gary Hunsicker (sp?), the person who was the GM for the 'stros before Tim Purpura was. That '05 team that the Sox faced in the WS were all Hunsicker's doings.
  6. UH, YEAH, LIKE I WUZ SOOOOOOOOOO RIGHT, ID DUDE IT! dA SOX ARE dA WURSE. i AM LEFFIN LEGEND! iMA TREKKIE TWO!?!???? aND I STILL LIVE MY MOMMEEEEEEE. Seriously, even if the Sox were in first place, who the F cares about you and your predictions? Geez, get a life and get out more. And get a date while you're at it. Moron. :stick
  7. Betcha Danks gets blown away tonight in a slaughter. We'll see how the Sox man up tonight.

  11. QUOTE(chisoxt @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 10:01 PM) I told someone shortly after the Sox won it all in 2005 that one drawback of winning was that we would have to put up with the Kenny and Ozzie show for an eternity. The only way either of these two will go is if iehter or both quits. As I observe this wreckage I regretfully say the same about the coaching staff especially Cooper and Walker. Apparently, this whole organization will be in denial until the attendance starts to dramatically slump, which should be next year, given the awful effort this year Well, given the fact that KW actually put together the roster for '05, and Ozzie was managing all the right moves, who can blame them? Now you want to bail on them because the lineup can't hit, the bullpen can't put out any fires and the team is in a tailspin? Okay, go do so, but...given the fact that Kenny and Ozzie wants to taste success again, and would like to make the team into something the city can be proud of for years to come, don't expect KW to rest on his laurels. Now he's given notice by the fans, and you better believe that Jerry Riensdorf and the rest of the White Sox management are listening, as in lesser and lesser attendance = no money coming in. I won't give them a 5-yr grace period. You're only successful as what you do now. But to their credit, KW, Ozzie and the rest of the organization did do something that the prior 84 years before 2005 could not. Give them that at least.
  12. Well, since I have nothing else better to do (sans WS/Blue Jay game right now): IF MIZZOU OR ISU COMES INTO THE BIG 10(11) Then the Big 12 Conference could ask colleges such as TCU, UTEP or Houston for admission. UGH. Or for fun, maybe New Mexico from the MWC, whose football team is ....... but their basketball team can surprise, plus The Pit is always a fun place to play. It's possible. Or the Big 12 could pull a coup and get a Colorado State. HMMMMMMMMMMMMM..... IF LOUISVILLE GETS TO THE BIG 10(11) The Big East basketball conference will be hurt because of the rivalries that Louisville have. This will be difficult. Not so much in football jargon though.
  13. Jon Garland? Could happen, especially if one of the players coming to the Sox is a good pitching prospect. Jose Contreras? Hopefully, but it probably won't happen because of price/age/asking price, unless it's for another Single-A prospect. Jermaine Dye? Only for another power hitting OF and other prospect(s). Paul Konerko? Wouldn't make any sense.
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 08:46 PM) Yeah but if he can just play an average 2B for the final 2 months it will make it so much easier for KW to hand him a job next year. If he looks incredibly overmatched then there's no way he can pencil him in for a starting spot. It may not be a great indicator but it should give the organization some idea of if he's ready for the big time or not. I think the organization pretty much knows what type of defender he is at this point in time. They've had several years of scouting him in the D-Backs organization and a few months of watching him start at SS for Charlotte give them a good enough idea of his defensive prowess, that isn't going to change all of a sudden when he hits the big leagues. If they're trading away Iguchi to make room for him then I think it's fairly obvious that at least for now KW sees him as the heir-apparent at 2B and not SS. Interesting that at Chicagosports.com; Gooch cried when Guillen told him the news. There's something also mentioned that Gooch would like to come back. If Richar does well/very well, wonder if the Sox will go after Gooch then...probably not.

  16. Wow..... Pods is back and suddenly hitting and becoming a pitcher's nightmare again on the basepaths. That in itself is very valuable to set up your lineup. Behind Jermaine Dye, there is not a single AAA or AA power-hitting OF prospect for the White Sox. And I don't consider Ryan Sweeney a power hitting OF...maybe a Mark Grace-playing-OF clone. That's why, IMO, if you trade Jon Garland, get yourself a powerhitting OF, preferably a RF. That will make any Dye - for - two top prospects that much easier...hopefully. Pods???? Dunno. Only if you get an upgrade for your prospect depth at other key positions (OF, 2b/SS, P) then you would do so.
  17. Think we should *bump* this since Richar is coming to the big leagues tomorrow.
  18. Is Rick Ankiel for real????? http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=150449 2007 Season Team League AVG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG OPS MEM PCL .270 91 345 55 93 13 2 29 76 197 24 81 3 3 .320 .571 .891 Wow. Even if he's not, you gotta applaud him for persevering.

  21. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 06:56 PM) Why hasn't Griffith pitched in the minors yet? It's been 2 weeks since he signed. Here you go...I've also updated my AAP: There's rarely a day off from the diamond By JOEY KNIGHT Published July 26, 2007 ADVERTISEMENT Sports News Video TAMPA - The Bristol Va. White Sox have spent three weeks preparing Nevin Griffith for his first professional pitching appearance, but needed far less time to thrust him into full-fledged adulthood. "They gave me four days to find my own place to live," said Griffith, the former Middleton right-hander taken by the Sox with the 89th overall pick in last month's Major League Baseball first-year player draft. "I got a one-bedroom apartment. I could have a roommate but I was like, 'Nah, I'll just live by myself.' " Since signing with the Sox on July 3 and reporting to Bristol - the club's rookie-league affiliate - two days later, Griffith has been conditioning his body and acclimating his mind toward the daily toil of pro baseball. Though he says he is not slated for his first game appearance until this weekend, Griffith arrives at DeVault Memorial Stadium - Bristol's home field - daily at around 11:15 a.m. for a full day of baseball. He throws around 45 pitches every other day in bullpen sessions, but lifts weights and shags batting-practice balls daily and is in the dugout every night. Bristol has played eight games in the past seven days and doesn't have a regularly-scheduled day off until Aug. 2. "We play for two weeks straight and then we have two days off," said Griffith, who lives about 10 blocks from the ballpark. "It's hard. Playing every day is something that's totally new." Any spark he can inject into the Sox's staff will be welcome at this point. Bristol (10-23) ranks eighth in the nine-team Appalachian League with a 5.70 team ERA. "I'm doing good," Griffith said. "I haven't pitched yet because they want to take it slow with me; after the draft I took some time off before I signed. ...Everything's going pretty good." Joey Knight can be reached at (813) 226-3350 or [email protected].
  22. Sorry guys, day late on this.......... Of course since my absence, Nevin has signed with the Pale Hose. 23. So let me get this straight. We've traded a proven major leaguer for a Single-A prospect? :lolhitting :lolhitting Wonder what the Mets were thinking.
  24. Meh - Once Jose is dealt, give Gavin a chance for the 5th spot in the rotation. If he continues to blow up, get someone else at the end of the season, or check to see if Lance, Gio or Eggy is ready (which IMO they are not ready yet).
  25. Torii Hunter would definitely improve the defense in the outfield for the Sox. Although an average hitter with some power and speed, it would be a good Plan B just in case Jermaine Dye leaves.
