  1. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 06:25 AM) The mentally ill should get jobs and buy their own mental healthcare. Also, poverty is a mental illness.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 07:16 AM) Dude, you can Show/Hide channels with the favorites list. Shopping channels, religious channels, awful music channels, PPV channels, goodbye. I can't stress enough how useful this is. When setting it up, it'll take a few minutes to sift through channels that you may actually watch on occasion but it's much better than having an endless list of garbage.
  3. Shocked to see that Tyler Perry has the 2nd most Oscar nominations.
  4. A whole thread on healthy eating and no discussion on the subsidies given to the crappiest food out there? It's no wonder unhealthy food is cheap.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 10:02 AM) Justified looking good again this year! Agreed. Is there such thing as a bad episode? That show is so consistently entertaining.
  6. Why Can’t More Poor People Escape Poverty? A radical new explanation from psychologists. snippet:
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) Sqwert, your heart really is in the right place...but that doesn't make our opinions, or common sense, irrelevant to this discussion. Is it your opinion that only those in poverty should be able to have this discussion? No, but the "just stop being lazy and pull yourself up by your bootstraps" discussion in here is quite pathetic.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 01:15 PM) Nobody has said this bulls***. I can't believe you guys are actually incapable of understanding the concepts of "culture" and "social pressures and influences." I'm also guessing not many of us in here have a mom who was 15 when she had a baby and forced to live below the poverty line as a single mom, working multiple jobs.
  9. Tactical Response CEO Issues Threat Over Gun Control: ‘I’m Gonna Start Killing People’
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 12:32 PM) Because as you noted in your edit, it came off like "those big evil companies are just taking advantage of stupid people! We need to help them!" Deciding to live a healthy lifestyle is not impossible, nor difficult. It's simply a choice that needs to be made. Being poor or rich is irrelevant. Says the affluent white lawyer.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 12:31 PM) self-righteousness, thy name is soxtalk. It's amazing how many members of this site have pulled themselves up from their bootstraps.
  12. It's funny how some of the same people in here were cheering for Palin when she attacked Michelle Obama for taking on healthy eating habits as a project. Now they're in here wondering why people can't eat healthier.
  13. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) The point is only that it's possible to be that way. So you'll volunteer to ensure every poor families kitchen is stocked with a functioning stove and oven, pots, pans, cooking utensils and food. And relieve them of their second and third jobs so they can find time to cook. Also, drive them to a supermarket if they don't have a car.
  14. Leave it to a group of affluent white people in here to tell people how easy it is to eat healthy and cook at home. "If I could do it I don't see why everyone else can't.“
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) Again if time is the issue, you can get a salad and water from McDonalds. Most people don't view salads as a satisfying meal. People will typically pick a sandwich or burger instead if they're very hungry since those seems like a better value for your money. And those fatty alternatives are addicting.
  16. Cooking at home is a lot easier said than done when talking about the poor. Not everyone has the luxury of having a completely functioning stove/oven, a well stocked kitchen of pots & pans and utensils, and all the spices and accoutrements needed for cooking. All of that costs a lot of money and, like others have mentioned, requires the time to actually cook which many people might not have because of mulitiple jobs.
  17. QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 04:28 AM) Now, I can't stop thinking about extra fresh squid fried quickly, doused in lemon juice and lightly salted. Thanks. Thanks a lot. Jesus, I'm starving!!!! Thirty two minutes 'til lunch. This post made me think of this video... MAN from Steve Cutts on Vimeo.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 12:04 PM) Watch this scenario happen next year: Sonics have #1 pick. Opening night: Thunder at Sonics Kemp, Payton get their #s retired in addition to all the old Sonics retired numbers. That has me thinking. I need to find some connections to the opening night game. Time to schmooze our external auditors.
  19. Stewart had a great segment on gun control last night.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) Nice! Now I can see my Bulls when they're in town.

I actually think season 2 of Justified was the best. I think it even won more awards. Mags Bennett was fantastic. All in all, the series itself is outstanding.
  22. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 6, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) Shanahan should be ashamed of himself. This
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 6, 2013 -> 05:03 AM) Cheers my friend. She was born on Friday and is sleeping right next to me at the hospital right now. Life is good. Congrats!
  24. Nobody wants to see the overrated Niners go anywhere. They're a boring team to watch.
