QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) Trust me, I've talked to plenty of people that consider themselves "the greatest Sox fans on the planet" who went to sleep prior to the end of Game 3. Unless you're in a coma at the hospital, there's no excuse for a living Sox fan to not be able to watch the full game. I believe the game was against Detroit. I had tickets for the game, but I left after an hour and a half. You could also say the same thing about opening day this year. I was one of very few that braved the hurricane at 35th and Shields and stayed to watch a White Sox winner.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) Unless the sentence is: Pitchers like Jon Garland don't win the Cy Young. or possibly: Jon Garland came into custody of the Cy Young after bashing Francisco Liriano, Johan Santana, Jonathon Papelbon, Roy Halladay, Justin Verlander, and B.J. Ryan in the head with a poorly fashioned cane. LOL You'll have to come up with an avatar of a poorly fashioned cane.

Let’s see...a good poster? Someone who doesn't use fancy animated pictures in their avatar and overly extravagant sigs.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) A good poster should only talk about being a good Sox fan if they stayed up for all of Game 3 of the WS. I'll drink to that. I remember we were at a friend's loft in the south loop watching that game. When Blum HR'd we went nuts and the neighbors came over to yell at us for being loud. "Sorry...it's only the first World Series in Chicago since 1959." Sheesh. Some people. EDIT: I should have used Milkman's poorly fashioned cane and clubbed the neighbors.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) What's wrong with John Garland, Mike McDougall, Freddie Garcia, and Scott Podsednick? I dunno. Ask Mark Burly.

That was quick!

A good poster knows how to spell Sox player's names correctly.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) I Choo-Choo-Choose you. I knew I'd hear that sooner or later. Here's another excellent article covering some similar themes. It's a bit longer to read but quite fascinating. A Nation of Wimps

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) What could possibly be the reason for putting a black man's head over a Lebanese woman's head? Perhaps some intern at the Times tried sneaking one past the editors and it worked.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) yea, same at my school. i think thats fairly standard. How lame though. I would remember going to school on valentines morning, hoping I'd get a valentines from the girl I had a crush on. Where's the fun if everyone gives one to you?
-
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) At my school everyone had to get valentines when I was in second grade. If you gave em out, everyone had to get them. And that was like 1982. Ha. You just dated yourself. Now I know we're the same age. Unless you were held back several years in first grade.

I didn't like the one mom's rationale in the article. She claims that her 1st grader plays with a different friend every other day so might as well invite everyone to the birthday party. It might just seem like that for her from afar. I distinctly remember playing with only certian kids when I was that age. I probably would have been annoyed if my mom invited the entire class to my birthday.

Saw this on CNN.com and found it interesting. I've included some excerpts. The full story is here --> LINK

That's pretty funny.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) Que es tu problemo? Heh. I just have trouble reading some posts because of awful spelling and grammar.

Someone who knows the English language. *ducks for cover*

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) I like the poorly fashioned cane part, for some reason. Yeah, I envision some handmade thing stolen from a hobo.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) My question: What freaking Sox fans gives or sells their tickets to Yankees fans in that location? Lots of people sell tickets via stubhub, ebay, etc. You don't get to choose who buys them.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) Yeah, back in aught-three, some Yankee fans were proddin' us the whole game, so's me and some of the guys followed 'em through Bridgeport, lured 'em into an alley, beat 'em to death with a lead pipe and a poorly fashioned cane, and stuffed the jerks down a sewer pipe. Those were the good old days. LMAO....I almost spit out my coffee.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) Dusty's the opposite of Ozzie when it comes to criticizing players. I meant as far as playing the younger players. Dusty has been notorious for always sticking with the veteran. Obviously that's not the case this year with him due to injuries and what not. Anyone with 2 eyes can see that Brian is 1000 times better in CF than Rob. The starting rotation looks unbelievably fatigued and we have a young, lively arm waiting in the wings that's being underutilized. Just seems like a waste of talent.
-
Ozzie's diss of McCarthy and unwillingness to put him into the rotation almost feels Dusty-like. Especially when you factor in the constant days off for Brian. Why is Ozzie so averse to using his young stars?
-
Ozzie needs to shut his yap and stick to what he does best, sending out awful defensive lineups and observing his starting pitchers unsuccessfully attempt to get out of late inning jams.
-
Who needs Desperate Housewives when you have this?

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:40 AM) Jon is 8-0 with a 3.39 era in his last 9 starts. He's the only starter I have condifence in right now. Here's to a CG shutout

Huge win. We really needed this one.
