  1. QUOTE(sti3 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) Screw being excited about the wild card race, the sox are playing crappy baseball and the wild card is a joke. If my Illini are crappy in basketball next year you gonna tell me that we still have a shot at the Big 10 championship cause of the conference tournament? Several teams won as wild cards so I wouldn't call it a joke. The 1st part about the Sox playing crappy is mostly true. EDIT: You still have the best sig on this site.
  2. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) The most crucial week of the season for the Sox, when they need our suport the most... and nodbody can put an ounce of faith in this team. Pathetic. So apparently right before each game Ozzie has all the players log onto Soxtalk to get the fan's perspective. Poor guys. We shouldn't be so harsh on them. It's affecting their play on the field. Give me a break. Who's booing at the games? As negative as I am on this board I am equally positive and loud at the games when I go.
  3. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 03:12 PM) I remember like it just happened, I was in the right-center bleachers and everyone was just crazy. The Catcher's Inn exploded when that happened. Beer flying everywhere, people hugging each other, chairs getting knocked over. One of the greatest memories in my life.
  4. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) Meh, never saw Caddyshack, so I withdraw my previous comment. You live a deprived existence.
  5. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) Here's a nugget for ya: I called the Konerko grand slam. I just KNEW he was going to do it and I told everybody at the bar prior to the first pitch. And then, BAM. How weird is that? I find that very hard to believe. You must have been the only person to call that, aside from the 10 people near me at the Catcher's Inn on 35th.
  6. QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) i say we get shut out tonight 2-0. wang just rams it down our throats... That's gross.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) That was the stuff I was talking about. Toyota's been rumored in 08 to be coming out with a small car hybrid that might push 100+, and in 09 to be pushing out the new Prius, a larger car that would be a little less fuel efficient than the other but also would be larger, and still would probably be in the 80-90 range. I need to get a car pretty soon and can finally afford one now that the Fiancee is employed, so what I've been considering is either leasing something small for 2 years & then getting myself one of these puppies or buying something used and using it as a trade-in 2 years from now. Luckily for me I have survived a year without a car. I can probably go on for years without one but if there's a 100 mpg vehicle on the horizon then I'd consider buying again.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) Seriously...if you can set yourself up in shape to be buying a car in the 2009-2010 era, that will be an ideal time. You may have to get on a waitlist, but the MPG is strongly rumored to be approaching 100 on the next generation of them from Honda & Toyota. Google search came up with this article: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=109981 EDIT: That may be my next car.
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 11:19 AM) I was thinking that, for this generation of Sox fans, we grew up with a s***ty UHF signal, and in the Cub's shadow. We probably started off with a chip on our shoulder. It just sucks that we have an opportunity to really become something special and the team seems to be slowly deteriorating before our eyes. After a magical season like last year one would hope that we'd have a nice run of similar types of seasons. Sure we have a pretty good record this year but the team isn't very fun to watch. The pitching is bad, defense is inconsistent, team speed is nowhere to be found, and we seemed to become a HR or nothing type offense. When comparing it to last year it just seems less exciting to watch. There's still time left to turn things around and secure a playoff spot but if that fails I really hope Kenny tweaks the team in the offseason to have more focus on defense, pitching and team speed.
  10. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) who is overrating the white sox right now? I was speaking in general terms, going into the season.
  11. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 10:24 AM) and to address BigSquirt.... Yeah if they're 5 games out of the wildcard, what's wrong with saying we're only 5 games out of the wildcard?? As a fan what are you suppose to do, hope for them to lose cause they're 5 back?? You root for them to find that magic and make a run...If they can make the playoffs anything can happen. I mean I know it's not the best position to be in, but it's not out of contention so you cheer for em to win it all. What benefit is there to saying, they have no chance, if mathmatically and realistically they do?? I'm just frustrated to watch a team with a $100M payroll get worse as the season progresses. I spend thousands of dollars each year following this team and expect a little better than what I'm seeing. As a fan I have the right to criticize this team on a message board. When I go to the games I root loudly for them and I always want them to win. I'm not sure how critical statements from fans on a message board are supposed to negatively affect this team. Whether I complain about this team or stick my head in sand, nothing I type on this board will have any affect on the team.
  12. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 09:42 AM) This excuse used to be that we were the #2 team in baseball. Then, it was that we're #3. Soon, we'll be happy ( ) that we're hovering around .500, woohoo! And you live to bury your head in the sand. I'm looking forward to the "We're only 5 games out of the wildcard" days.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 08:42 AM) Don Cooper was just on the Mike North show, and he blamed QuesTec also. My question is that if we're going to whine about our pitchers not getting the corners, then we might as well get rid of Buehrle, and try to bring in someone who can get a strikeout. What a joke. I really wouldn't mind dealing him seeing that we'll probably get good return on value.
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 04:20 AM) We're what 20 games over .500, yet people are criticising Ozzie for his managerial skills. Is it Ozzie's fault our SP's in Garcia have basically decided we won't throw as hard this season so we won't be as good? Ozzie's job is to manage with the talent he was given. If that means he has to use his bullpen in the 6th or 7th, so be it. He is not managing to the talent level of the team and is stuck with his 2005 mentality of trying to run his starting pitchers out there for as long as he can. We're 4+ months into the season and it's obvious to everyone that the starting rotation is having trouble getting deep into a game. Why doesn't Ozzie see that?
  15. I'd love to hear Hawk say this: "If you're just tuning in, once again the umps are out to get us."
  16. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 08:28 PM) Yep. It's almost as if they take pride in seeing their team losing just to prove themselves right. I find that hard to believe.
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) Shut up Hawk. Mark Buerhle gets $9 million a year. Maybe he could pitch over a walk every now and then. He's just telling you Buehrle's perspective.
  18. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) Buerhle was not good, but Ozzie had the bullpen ready when the score was 3-2 and wouldn't use it until the score was 6-2. Utter stupidity. Sandy doesn't move when the ball gets 20 ft. away from the catcher, and then a DP follows. Ozzie should be fired for worrying about a pitcher's win before the team win. Inexcusable.
  19. QUOTE(soxunited @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) 8-3 Tigers the saga continues. . . 40 games over .500
  20. QUOTE(soxunited @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 08:09 PM) exactly, its the job of the manager to make the players look good, not the other way around Carrasco is bad, very bad, there is still a chance Scocia knows when to pull pitchers when they're in trouble.
