So this will be 1 guaranteed off day for AJ each time through the rotation. I don't want to see any more days off for him in addition to those games unless we play a doubleheader.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) Subtle swipe at AJ's pitch calling? They mentioned his previous success with Sandy. Didn't he have a lot of success with AJP behind the plate last year? Seems like a lot of excuses for Mark's problems. Tipping pitches, lights in the OF, and now this.

Just announced on Comcast Sportsnite.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 10:04 PM) Doesn't matter who's pitching, things can happen ... see Gibbons' bloop to CF. The point being, playing the IF back in that situation takes away a defensive option. Any type of slow roller ends the game. Or a bunt. It goes both ways as you increase the hitter's opportunity to sneak one past the drawn in IF. Pick your poison I guess.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 09:56 PM) Would they not want to try and cut the winning run off at home plate on a softly hit grounder? Why concede the winning run? If they play back, it requires a hard hit ball on the ground. Playing the infield in gives them the opportunity to keep the game alive on a softly hit ball via a force at the plate, or possibly a DP if it's hit right at someone. Why eliminate one of your options? Your criticism stems from the end result, a hard hit ball not right at one of the infielders. They played the %'s and the guy smoked one. Aren't the chances of a hard hit ground ball likely to increase with the a Jenks fastball?

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 09:47 PM) Lopez could only make it 5 innings again. Cotts blew it gain and Jenks blew the ninth inning save. Ok there is plenty of blame to go around, but look at Jenks stats since the 19 inning game. He is doing poorly more often than he does good. Yeah that Lopez is starting to get on my nerves.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 09:37 PM) Here's an article from BP about a month ago saying how statistically, Brian Anderson had in the first half one of the best defensive halves for a CF in HISTORY, not just the best out of this year. Perhaps we should forward that to Ozzie.

QUOTE(champ @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) For the last time, we have a centerfielder and he's a damn good one. He's probably best in the game defensively, and his hitting has come around, so...THERE IS NO LONGER A HOLE IN CENTERFIELD. Get over yourself. You'd give up prospects for a guy we don't even need? This is just like the Soriano talk, stupid. You should start watching other teams play. He is solid but the best defensive CF in baseball? Come on. EDIT: Not trying to disrespect but with the limited number of posts you've made, you actually come off as a bigger homer than Hawk Harrelson. And I thought that was nearly impossible.

Hey I am back on Soxtalk, and got a question...

QUOTE(whitesoxownyou @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 07:52 PM) Well this Zito trade rumor sounds like a pretty good deal.. Yeah so far this place seems to be laid back and people don't flip out when they disagree with something or be rude to people. *Knocks on wood. But yeah it is good to be back at Soxtalk I completely disagree. What the heck is wrong with you?!? -
There will be no more trades for the Sox

Is there any easy way to determine how many BBs given up wind up scoring off a team? It feels like we'd be leading the league in that category. -
QUOTE(Dan Pasqua @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) I think everyone keeps forgetting here that vaz is our 5th starter. That's a defeatist attitude. We certainly didn't give up one of our top prospects, a decent reliever and a comparable starting pitcher (effectiveness-wise....did I just make up a word?) for a 5th starter. Ignore where the guys pitch in the rotation. All 5 guys going into this season were supposed to be #1 through #3 starters on any other staff in this league. Vazquez has a helluva big contract and shouldn’t be considered 'just our 5th starter'. If Kenny thought he'd have a guy who pitched like a below average 5th starter with a high ERA and inability to get into the 7th inning then I'm sure he wouldn't have made this deal. We could have found a much less expensive guy to throw out there and perform equally poorly. Or we could have just put our best pitching prospect in that spot kind of like the Tigers and Twins did.

I guess Javy will go for his 100th loss next time.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) Yeah but we have to get the run out at home plate first, too bad it happened like this. No you go for the double play with the bases loaded.
-
Wow that hurt.
-
This looks bad. I'd warm MacDougal.
-
Bobby seems to be overthrowing.
-
Makowiak would have caught that.
-
Dang. That sucks.
-
BTW Bonderman pitching a gem in the Twinkie dome.
-
Nice going Brian. Makowiak would have hit a grand slam even though there is only a man on 1st.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) All is I have to say is thank goodness for JD!! He is our MVP! Cool. Does that mean it's your last post?
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) That wasn't his fault. No one forced Ozzie to bring Logan in to face Hafner. True but you don't bring up a single A pitcher to play for a championship caliber team based on a few innings in spring training.

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) Other than Javy, KW looks like a genius Other than Javy? He also gave us the Boone Logan experiment.
-
QUOTE(G&T @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) Another good job by Thornton. And to think there were a few people on the board saying that Cotts is still more reliable than him.

What an awful Rohrman commercial.
