QUOTE (RZZZA @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) We have very fair weather fans, but so what? Nobody wants to pay money and travel to the park to watch a loser. except Cubs fans, they love that isht. Over 32K in Detroit tonight. They're economy is garbage and their population is 1/9th the size of ours. BTW going into tonight they had the same record as ours. I didn't realize there's no school tomorrow in Detroit. Bring on more excuses. -

It would have been nice to trade MT when he still had some value. -
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 07:52 PM) Finally got around to watching Moonrise Kingdom, loved it. Yeah it was pretty solid. I particularly loved the score.

My goodness this team looks like s*** right now. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 08:04 AM) I travel for work too and I never used the map application for GPS and directions, you guys used that instead of a superior GPS app? It never really had turn by turn directions whatsoever so it was worthless. Yes but that was the native google maps app in Android which has turn by turn directions. I've learned in this thread that the google app on iOS was pretty lame.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 09:21 PM) Tampa Bay is currently 3 games behind the A's. Let's hope the Rays lose and A's win on Wednesday so it's a 4 game lead for the WC going into that HUGE four game series at USCF. 2 game lead, and the Rays will be playing with just as much, if not more, motivation than the Angels this past weekend. The Angels are now only 2 1/2 games behind, having won 3 in a row.....and the A's still have 4 games with the Rangers left, with SEATTLE sandwiched in between over the weekend. It's funny how all these teams we play seem to have motivation. Why can't our team play with the same motivation?

Brickleberry was pretty decent.

I travel for work. I use navigation more than I actually make phone calls.

September crowds in 2005 were pretty weak too and we made the playoffs. 11 home games with under 30K. And we were on pace for 100+ wins. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 02:24 PM) An airplane flyover? Who's you trust directions from? A driver who's driven to the place you're headed to and validated the route or an airline pilot who flew over the city?

Apple Insider? Are these proganada articles written by Apple's marketing team?
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) They hire college kids for min wage to drive those routes. Real high tech jobs there. What better way to prove that a road exists or how to effectively guide someone through an area?

We have to be hitting under .200 as a team in September. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 11:57 AM) Tomtom only does GPS and mapping, Googlr does WAY more and actually generates revenue from those other business units. I know tomtom is a company who's main products are mapping and GPS. It doesn't mean that every single person that works for the company is directly involved in product development. That's why I was trying to compare the 7100 people on google's side. Those people in the google figure are dedicated to the development and maintenance of the actual mapping product and not a mix of other folks who are indirectly involved such as lawyers, accountants and HR folks, which your employee count from tomtom or wherever includes.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 06:56 AM) How sure are you about that 7000 number? The firm has 54k employees total, so about 1 in 8ish employees is working on just maps? Do I have to read the articles to everyone? It's 1100 google employees and 6000 contractors. And by Rock's logic, google has 54K people working on maps!
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 06:25 AM) I don't believe Google has anywhere near that number dedicated to maps anymore...I think that was a one time peak when they were fixing the same problems Apple is having now -- problems people conveniently forgot Google Maps ever had. I don't believe you've read the article I posted or the articles linked within that article. If you did you'd see that as of June this year they had over 7000 people dedicated to mapping. Nothing points to Apple putting in the human effort involved in doing it right.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 24, 2012 -> 09:28 PM) Well Tomtom has 3500 employees which is where Apple got their maps. So it's not that "laughable." That's 3500 in the company including folks in sales, accounting, hr, tax, public affairs, etc. Not really comparable. Google has 7000+ people solely dedicated to mapping.
