QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) This isn't about what I want. I would personally rather our governement handle all our ports. I think it was a London based company that was sold to the UAE...I wouldn't have liked that London company either...I didn't know s*** about then though. Why can't we manage our own ports? I vote for Kapomet's start up company...he seems like a good enough guy and he's not from the UAE so right there is big plus for everyone. Big difference between a privately held company and a state owned one.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 11:56 AM) They are profiling. That's bulls***. We dont think the UAE is supporting terrorism, we know it.

For someone who is all gung-ho about vetoing any attempts to block this deal I'm starting to wonder how well informed he is on the matter. Turns out he heard about the deal after it was already made. Bush Unaware of Port Deal Until After Approval

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 11:49 AM) I hear you. And I'm inclined to agree, on the surface. However, again, on principle, we shouldn't be buying a DROP of oil then - Iran, Saudi, UAE, etc. Well you're talking to a tree-hugger who doesn't own a car. I would love that we didn't buy oil from that region and I would have supported a bold move like that after 9/11. But that's another topic all together.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) First let me say that I don't like this deal, so I'm not arguing in favor of it. I'm just saying blocking this company because they are Arab owned and from the UAE is the discrimination and racial profiling that is deemed reprehensible when used against an individual. Why is it ok for so many politicians to be discriminating against this whole country. If 5 people from the UAE were to come to this country to work, a company could not say we can't hire you cause you came from UAE. The ACLU would be on that company in the blink of an eye. Just as American Airlines can't say, you came from UAE so we're going to have to check you a little more closely than grandma over here. It's a STATE-OWNED company. The UAE owns, or partly owns, this company. The UAE has had terrosist ties. There should be no reason that a terrorist-supporting government manages American infrastructure on our soil. It is ludacris. That's why an overwhelming majority of Americans and politicians are opposing this deal.

Come on...even Joe Scarborough and Tucker Carlson are against this move (an inside to my boring night out on a work trip).

BTW great discussion on this topic on Scarborough Country right now.

U.S. Company Files Lawsuit Trying to Block Arab Control Over 6 Key Ports

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 10:24 PM) Normal people married 3 years split the assets and move on. Normal people? This is Nick Lachey!

What a joke. The President just handed the Dems the 2006 elections. He went from having national security as a major strength to a complete weakness. Look at all the Republicans who are opposing Bush on this one.

QUOTE(samclemens @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 10:12 PM) what is the big problem here? this is a private commerical deal for the right to manage 6 ports in the US. our customs and coast guard still are there to enforce the law. the company apparently checks out. its outright discrimination to prohibit contracts with middle eastern countries while we have contracts of this sort in all sorts of industries with all sorts of countries. The 9/11 commision reported that one of the hijackers was being sponsored by the UAE military while he trained in Germany. Maybe we should have paid the Nazi's to manage our ports back in the 30s and 40s. Heh...'what is the problem here'? I dunno. I guess you're the only one who has an issue with it.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 09:47 PM) Maybe we should have seen this coming. It's as inevitable as a snowstorm in March. Un-f***ing-real

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 04:44 PM) Oh, Nick. You did NOT just do that. I don't see what the big deal is. I guess we need to keep the double standard in place?

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 06:05 PM) This article makes me uncomfortable. Tell me about it. Makes me wonder what was going through the mind of the first person in history who decided to perform such an act. Yikes.
-
Any scientific polls done on this with the American public? I would imagine a rating in the low teens for approving this deal to go through.
-
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 06:06 PM) No you won't. Someone else will get blamed. Probably Bill Clinton.
-
If this deal goes through and God forbid something terrible happened because of it, you will see a bloody coup.

QUOTE(minors @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) I don't believe he would purposely place us in harms way I think we need to look at this proposal a little more before passing judgement. I don't see why any foreigners would get control of part of our infrastructure on our soil. Especially someone who supported the taliban. Makes zero sense.
-
QUOTE(minors @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) Since our president says it is a good idea then I have no problem with it he seems to be strongly in favor of it so he must know what he is doing. Well you are in the minority buddy. Just saw The Caffeirty Files on CNN. He received thousands of emails about this and he said he could count on 1 hand the number of people supporting the president on this one. Wonder how supportive you'd be if you lived near one of these ports.

QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) Nobody fires Bruce Wolf, thats bulls***....BRING BACK BRUCE He blows. I remember when he made Tamryn cry on the air. He was being a complete jag-off and kept making fun of her outfit one morning. He wouldn't let it go and she cried on air. Was a very awkward moment. Like when you're having dinner and your dad hits your mom in front of you. Everyone just gets quite and tries to go on with dinner.

What happened to Bush's hard stance on nations who are either "with us or against us"? The UAE worked closely with the Taliban, a known terrorist harboring institution.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 05:25 PM) Is all the fuss over Arctic Monkeys justifed? I haven't heard them yet. They sound pretty solid. However I only scanned through each song once. Need to give it a full listen.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) Why? Bill Maher is NOT a Democrat nor a Republican. He's pretty liberal.

QUOTE(minors @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) You think it is that easy, just let him out of his cell after 30 years. First of all he is institutionalized with all of old prison habits and in over 60% of these cases the person ends up committing another crime. Secondly how do you just give back 30 years of a man's life? Better that an innocent man die? Not saying that this particular person is innocent but your rationale is appalling.

Theory: A scientific theory is an established and experimentally verified fact or collection of facts about the world. Unlike the everyday use of the word theory, it is not an unproved idea, or just some theoretical speculation.
