Sox vs. Tigers 6/29/05 6:05 CST Gamethread

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 07:06 PM) Despite the inning BMac just had, Cotts would be more effective blindfolded for the next 5. IMHO. He's settling in. Lets give him a chance. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 10:38 PM) He just broke his non-pitching hand punching something in the dugout. He also always starts out hot and then sucks in the second half. And why would the Rangers want to trade a starting pitcher? They NEED starting pitching. They wouldn't trade it away. I know it sounded nuts but just seems like Texas is dropping games faster than Paris Hilton can drop to her knees. They need young pitching prospects because they are going nowhere this year. Rogers is 85 years old. -

Why not go for Kenny Rogers? At this rate Texas will be 10 games out of the wild card race by the all star break. He's old and I'm sure they wouldn't mind getting a young pitching prospect or 2. I know it sounds crazy but all this trade talk we're doing is speculative anyway. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) 432 feet on Dye's bomb. Wow. Has he ever had anyone on when hitting one out? Just wondering. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 05:47 AM) "Mariners Notebook: Trade talks still swirling" http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/baseball/230354_mbok28.html Anyone interested in old man Moyer? I would be. El Duque scares me with all his trips to the DL. He hasn't looked good since before he went on the DL the first time. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) Oh man, now I'm thinking of the numbers Chavez would put up with our RF bullpen and bullpen bar. Damn, now Chavez is back in my head. I guess he can join Joe Randa, Jason Schmidt, Roy Oswalt, and AJ Burnett. No doubt. Didn't he hit one to the right field concourse a couple years back? At the time it was the longest HR in new Comiskey history. Not sure if it still is. -

QUOTE(AirScott @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) you're right, it'd take too much to get him, but he really doesn't suck. I never did say run support and ERA are tied together, I did say, however, that pitchers tend to pitch better when it seems they have a chance to win it. Zito would have his head into it a little more if his offense wasn't rolling everything over and striking out all the time. Although I didn't look it up but isn't Zito, and most of the A's, better in the 2nd half of the season? Seems like every year they make a big run in the 2nd half. -

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) Guardado has a partially torn rotator cuff, that scares the hell out of me. I didn't know that. Maybe not such a good idea to pursue him. -

QUOTE(AirScott @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) we'd only be hoping for him to get a small job done. give El Duque an extra day off by starting in his place. come in a pitch 3 or 4 innings of a game with a 5 run differential. Lilly has never been a mainstay on any team, so a rebuilding team (or any team) would be mostly indifferent to trading him. and $3.1 million isn't exactly the league minimum, either. Wow AirScott I'm starting to think that you'll start a Lilly fanclub in addition to your 'Too many fanclubs' fanclub. I guess if we did pick him up in a trade it wouldn't be the worst thing but it just isn't a sexy trade for me. I guess my aspirations for this year are too high. I want to go for the jugular and leave everyone in the dust. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 09:05 PM) Big sqwert, where else are we supposed to upgrade? The only spot really is bullpen, or another starter (third-base, too). And (most likely) the price is very high for a SP. Plus, I can't think that the organization has already given up on El Duque. When he pitched healthy, he pitched well for where he's at in the rotation -- the fourth spot. I would try to get a guy like Baez from Tampa or Guardado from Seattle. Chavez would be a nice addition but I don't see Crede getting traded this year. -

QUOTE(AirScott @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) every move doesn't have to be a blockbuster. Lilly would just be a small piece of the puzzle, and just because he isn't making a bunch of money doesn't mean a guy won't be traded. it's not like he's making the minimum and on pace to win 15 games. If Toronto wants to rebuild why would they get rid of a guy that they are paying little for? Especially if he's such a solid pitcher. I just don't see this as a very appealing trade possibility. Just another guy that we hope can get it done. I'd rather go for a guy that more than likely will get it done. But that's just me. KW has done a great job putting this team together. I trust that he will make the right move(s) to ensure we field a champion calibre team for the stretch. -

Why would Toronto even want to get rid of Lilly? He isn't making a whole lot of money. It would make little sense. And talk about the least exciting move KW can make. I know there are no sure things but the one sure thing is this guy won't get any fans excited. Why not get someone that strikes fear in the opponents clubhouse? Lets pick up Robbie Alomar again while we're at it. -
QUOTE(GASHWOUND @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 03:11 AM) The last few weeks the cubs fans have been complaining about all the Score talks about is the Sox..They even named it the "clever" WSOX I listened to the station on Friday after the Sox won and all they talked about was the Sox..I don't know..Maybe you could've called and started Sox discussion Maybe I just have bad timing and turn it on whenever there's Cub talk.

QUOTE(wsox08 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 11:06 PM) I heard the sox are switching to the score next year, but they are keeping Farmer and Rooney. Am I right? Yes. Farmer and Rooney are hired by the White Sox not the radio station. They will be back next year.
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) Get over it. They won today. Well it would be nice to have an outlet on TV or radio to be able to hear about my favorite team. I live in Chicago and the only coverage I get is the pre and post game show on AM 1000. ESPN TV is a joke. They only care about the AL East. I'm pretty much stuck with the Internet to get White Sox info.

QUOTE(nvxplorer @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) Just out of curiosity, what company owns 670? Infinity Broadcasting I beleive. It's not the Tribune if that's where you were going.

BTW - Garland at home this year: 7-0 with a 2.94 ERA opponents batting .205 against him I like our chances. -
QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) Arent they going to be the Sox flagship? Cucking Fubs. Yeah. I guess they need to fill in as much Cub talk for the next year to make up for all the Sox talk they'll be doing 24/7 next year. :headshake

I've been a pretty big score listener over the years but I am getting so annoyed with them lately. You would have though the Cubs just won a road game in Cincinatti today. Virtually no Sox talk all day. Whenever I put it on for a few minutes here and there the only topics discussed by the hosts are: - Corey Patterson - Derrick Lee - Mark Prior - Kerry Wood - The NL wild card And it's not that the Cubs fans are calling and forcing these subjects to be discussed. The hosts will rant for 10-15 minutes about these topics without taking a single caller.

Although I'm not as concerned with the hitting I wouldn't be mad if we got a new 3rd baseman. At least Uribe is more than a 1 tool guy. If he ever gets on base he can steal a base. He also is a much better bunter than Crede...but that's not saying much. We definitely need to tweak the pitching. Stud reliever or another proven starter. The Cubans are a liability.

QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) Twin continue to slump At what point do you consider them to be sellers rather than buyers? I mean nothing is going their way. Sanatana even forgot how to win. But I guess they're still right there for the wild card.

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 08:39 PM) Prior has given up 2ER (4 total) in 24 IP in his 4 returns from the DL. 6 innings in all 4 games I'll take a 2-2 tie after 6 innings knowing we'd see their medicore pen after that. -
I would be ecstatic if we picked up Schmidt. Right now I have little faith in the 2 Cubans. I know we have the best record and all but it doesn't seem like these 2 guys are pitchers we can count on. Buehrle, Garland, Garcia and Schmidt would strike fear in any opposing clubhouse this post season.

All the hype with Prior coming back (in the media at least). Isn't a 12 game winner pitching tomorrow?!? -
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) I had a feeling, but f*** we were down 4-0 before I even got my ass in my seat. My prediction for Sunday: Expect Prior to be lights out, he steps it up when he returns from an injury. We need to be very patient at the plate, as I'm sure he'll be on a pitch count. Make him beat us by throwing strikes, not by swinging at everything. Hopefully we can get to their pen early and hopefully we can knock it around. Garland has to continue to be the Jon of 05, the 'big inning' will kill us. Frank needs to be back in the lineup tomorrow. He can work a count against Prior which will be key because of the pitch count. Is it me or does our offense seem less effective with Frank on the bench?
