  1. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 01:23 PM) It's as much of a joke as she is. I wonder if she will visit the families of the handful of people that died in the storm and explain to them the gist of her hilarious joke.
  2. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 12:18 PM) Who was the St. Louis pitcher who lost it and ended up in the outfield after reconfiguring his game? Ankiel?
  3. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) And those things, of course, magically translate into instant wins. Optimizing starting lineups and batting order usually increases your chances of winning. That's baseball 101 in case you're just starting to follow the game.
  4. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) I like the way people consistently want to keep everything good about this team exactly the way that it is, and just fix just Dunn and Rios. It would be nice if baseball was that cut and dried. Every year, every team has 1-2 players who struggle beyond our wildest expectations. In 2001, it was David Wells and Royce Clayton. In 2002, it was Todd Ritchie and his 5-15 record. In 2003, it was Paul Konerko and his impossibly low .230 average that was even worse than that for most of the year. In 2004, it was Joe Crede hitting .239. The list goes on from there. Again, we had options this year to lessen the blow (i.e., start batting Dunn lower in the lineup, bring up De Aza & Viciedo, etc.)

True Blood is so awful right now.
  6. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 10:13 AM) Greg I can't agree with your posts on this. I think Ozzie adn KW were right as hard as the decsion was and all the griping we call did. The kid needed to learn how to hit major league pitching. Before he hacked at everything. I think the most importnt and encougaing thing we saw ysterday was him taking pitches and getting a walk. The homer was fantastic of course, but his patience at the plate is what impressed me the most. He has had that plate discipline all year long in Charlotte where he was putting up ridiculous numbers. We could have used his bat and patience at the plate at any point time during our 5 month stretch of terrible offense.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:02 AM) How can you not love Oz? What a character! I can't wait until he goes to Florida and we're back to boring zombies like Manuel and Bevington. I want him gone. We'll appreciate him more when he's gone. How can a World Series manager be so bad? I'll never get it. I do think it's time for him to go. Back to boring old managers.
  8. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 12:42 AM) The politics comparison was just to illustrate a point. Ozzie doesn't even have to do anything wrong anymore, whatever action he takes will be automatically regarded as the wrong move. If what he does works it's credited to luck, if it doesn't its his fault and he's left soley to blame. You cant really believe the refusal to call up Dayan Viciedo sabotaged our season, especially when our major offseason acquisition and high-potential 2B both wound up being busts. So I take it you believe Ozzie was an excellent manager this season. He was a great motivator, put together optimal lineups, was a superior bullpen manager, and got the most out of his talent. Everyone else is just delusional.
  9. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 07:56 PM) You know as soon as Viciedo hit that dinger his brain was working in defense mode for questions that were gonna fly at him. Those weren't random remarks...he had a while to stew on 'em. You know the first word to pop into Ozzie's brain on the 3-run dinger was...."f***"! He'll probably bench Dayan for 10 games for showing up the manager.
  10. Ozzie Guillen is Terry Bevington with more talented players.
  11. QUOTE (qwerty @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 04:16 PM) Do people refer to kenny williams as a genius and i'm not aware of it? Only Marty34
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) I am not sure that Ozzie remark was appropriate, but I just think it was directed at the extreme hype that was being put out there. Viciedo is a good young talent, but I think Ozzie was trying to protect him from the extreme expectations that he is our Babe Ruth. Look what hapened to Beckham. Ozzie may have been just craching wise and that's Ozzie. If DV plays Sunday it will be fun. Game on WGN It's amazing how certain people always have an excuse for something stupid Ozzie says. He can call fans stupid, demean players on his team, and call reporters homophobic slurs but there's always some lame excuse that people come up with.
  13. Didn't catch the game but judging by the box score this should be the part of the season where guys like Danks really step it up and put up monster numbers when it basically doesn't count anymore. This will just make his next contract even bigger.

    Job Hunt Thread

This should be an ulcer inducing week for me as I await the results of this opportunity out west. The Dell gig in Round Rock didn't pan out. Oh well. This other opportunity would be a dream job for me. I'm hoping the recommendation from a Deloitte partner will put me over the top.

  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 02:09 AM) I think u guys take this all too seriously. I think what Oz said was funny and I hope it was a shot at his current players who have not been in a pennant race all year. I'd hate for him to leave Chicago. Who's photo would you jerk it to if he weren't around?
  20. *makes jerking off motion* How about making moves when it still mattered.
  21. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 01:53 PM) Not happening. Beckham will be fine. You're basing this on what exactly? A stellar AAA career?
