QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) But then you're hurting Viciedo by, again, benching him (note the difference in my reaction to Santiago being benched and to Viciedo being benched). You can't let Ozzie screw with Viciedo again, you just can't. He needs to be playing everyday in Chicago. fixed

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 02:22 PM) The manager can't play the kid if he's in AAA. Exactly. As GM, you bring him up and see what Ozzie does. If the offense continues to play like garbage and Ozzie doesn't give Dayan any chances, the media, in theory, would be all over Ozzie for sitting a potentially good/great hitter.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) ...if Pierre is moved Ozzie will run Lilli or De Aza out to LF everyday. How do they called up? Kenny makes those moves. EDIT: Whoops...didn't catch Lilli upon first reading.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 02:17 PM) I'm entirely fine with that. Just no 3b. He's an OF now, he needs to stay there. It's the whole "where would he play?" idiocy from Ozzie and Kenny that drive me up a wall. You're the manager Ozzie. You're telling me you're not smart enough to figure out ways to get his bat into the lineup? GMAFB

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) I know you're not explicitly saying this, but I feel compelled to note it. Moving Viciedo back to 3b...again...after we've bounced him around from position to position for 3 years and declared that he doesn't belong at 3b seems like the worst idea in the long, sad history of bad ideas. I think you can be creative with the offensive lineups without putting Dayan at 3rd. Rotate the OFs and give everyone a day off each week that they weren't getting before. You can also DH Dayan against all left handers (yes I know his splits against lefties are worse).

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 02:12 PM) It's amazing to me that people can look at this team, a team that's 8 over at 36-28 since May 6th, despite playing like s*** offensively, and say 'no chance, they don't have it' and then not evaluate MIN, CLE and DET the same way. Cleveland is 30-35 since then. Detroit is 36-27 since then, a half game better than the Sox. Minnesota is 33-33 since then. Nobody "has it". Nobody is running away with this thing. The Sox will be within 5 games all season. It is right there if they can ever wake up and take it. I wish you were my father. You might be the most optimistic person I know.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) seriously though, where would you play him? I guess just give him the DH job and let Dunn get his ABs spelling PK? There are ways to rotate guys in. You just have to cut loose someone like Teahen who provides absolutely nothing at this point...or send Morel down. There are options for a smart, creative manager to work Dayan into the mix.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) That wasn't a shot at teachers, only a shot at our system of financing schools. I was referring to the apparent outrage earlier in the thread that there are teachers making 6 figures.

I mean how many other teams in this exact scenario wouldn't have called up their best AAA hitter by now?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) That's not what you get paid the premium for, you get paid the premium for working in the wealthier school districts. Eh whatever. I'm not going to bust the balls of teachers that get paid a decent salary.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) People are buying tickets to those type of movies in record numbers. People need to stop going before Hollywood will stop making them. Bingo They could reboot Spiderman every other year and each time it will make no less than $100M.

QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 01:47 PM) Just never heard a GM defer a decision so often to the manager. Seems unheard of. What power does he actually possess in his role, other than ruining the farm system with awful trades?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) I am not goign to get into specific details. I just know they are comparable, but the pay is very different. I've even seen private school teachers leave the school they are at because they could get more in a public school in the same area. maybe you get a premium for working somewhere that has a more difficult workplace environment (i.e., more problem students, larger classroom sizes, etc)?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 01:40 PM) The people I know are in the same town/district area And have the exact same years of experience and graduated from the same schools with the same GPA and work the same hours and have the same size class rooms? What are the odds?
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 01:37 PM) I am not saying they shouldn't be paid. Just showing the discrepancy. There are a lot of factors that could explain that discrepancy. Do you think everyone across the US makes the exact same amount of money with the title that you currently have?

That looked like a made for SyFy channel movie to me to be perfectly honest.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 11:20 AM) Based on Dunn's career numbers, what makes you think this is his new norm? 15 consecutive weeks of god awful hitting lead me to believe that he is not going to hit any time soon. I don't care what he did in 2009.

2011 White Sox losing with pitching and defense
BigSqwert replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) I think we have a really good infield, especially up the middle, and we have a 1b who is good at picking up balls away from him. With that, we save a lot of errors and when the ball is hit on the ground we have a good shot. We also have some liabilities. We can't throw out a runner to save our lives. Our 1b has limited range, and whether we think that's important or not compared to picking the ball, it means he's not the greatest 1b in history. Our RF has been decent and better than expected, but our starting LF and CF have been defensive disasters. Also, we have 2 backups who are solid defensively (Omar, Lilli) and 1 who is not (Teahen), so our backups are at best a wash. We show up well on errors because IF's tend to be the ones who rack up the most errors, but we're solid on the IF and PK14 helps with that. But the defense costs us games in the OF and on the basepaths more than we want to admit. The only thing I'd argue with here is your opinion that our CF has been a defensive disaster. Maybe average to slightly below average but definitely not a disaster. -
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) .291/.359/.351/.710 with 10/14 sb since May 1st when are people finally going to admit Ozzie might have been right about something When you admit that you are dating Pierre.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) Has Ramirez really been all that good defensively? Seems he was much better last year on the defensive end. Oh I don't know. I've followed a lot of games on Gameday this year. Seems like he's having another good year but maybe I'm mistaken. -

How accurate are statistics for identifying truly good defensive teams? Are we only going by errors because when I watch this team I don't think defensive juggernaut. Sure there are a couple of excellent defensive players in Beckham and Ramirez but the rest of the team is meh IMO. -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 11:56 AM) I know public school teachers who make $120,000+. Same kind of private school teachers make well under $100,000 I have no problem with teachers making a lot of money. They actually deserve to get paid a lot of money for the good they do. It's the CEOs making millions in bonuses while shipping jobs to overseas and laying people off that get me angry. Besides, since when is $120K a lot of money? I keep getting told that incomes of $250K isn't really much.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 10:24 AM) By this logic every word uttered in public is harmful if heard by the right individual. Probably one of the worst arguments you've ever had on this site.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 10:23 AM) Heard this stat on the Score this morning, I thought it was pretty significant. These are the splits of hitters vs. Peavy in 2011 for how many pitches he had thrown. Pitches 1-25: .271/.306/.441 Pitches 26-50: .226/.269/.306 Pitches 51-75: .140/.227/.228 Pitches 76-100: .457/.469/.587 Pitches 101+: .231/.231/.231 (13 ABs) He totally appears to be hitting a wall, Javy Vazquez style and maybe he's just still not 100%. It could be a good idea to get him in the bullpen next year, and hope he can get back to 100% this offseason. There will most likely be no changes made seeing that Ozzie doesn't look at stats

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) Exactly. It didn't. Oh please. What if a 15 year old, in the closet gay kid who loves the White Sox heard about this story? Isn't there a chance that Gordon making fun of gays just made it even more clear to this kid that gays are something to make fun of? Of course not to you since using the word gay in a derogatory way doesn't personally affect you in any way. You won't have to go to school and hide who you are because you might get beat up or teased. Gordon didn't say "Getz is gay" because he hoped that if people thought Getz had homosexual relations that people would be excited and happy to hear about that. He wrote that because being gay is something to make fun of and laugh at. So when you say it doesn't hurt anyone what you're trying to say is it doesn't hurt you.
