In other news, Adam Dunn is sporting a solid OBP when you don't count his 100+ strikeouts.
-
I think most people have backed off in thrashing him.

I haven't heard a single reasonable explanation as to why Walker needs to stay here.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) Logic is on my side. Firing a guy not responsible for the woes of the team accomplishes nothing. So you're saying that you thing Greg Walker is doing an excellent job as a hitting coach and there isn't anyone out there that could be potentially doing a better job than he is in getting through to this lineup?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 05:21 AM) If someone said that Juan Pierre is a necessity for this team... Or stated that we needed 25 Juan Pierres.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 09:48 PM) Having worked in a public/"inner city" high school for four quite painful years, there's just that "institutionalized group think" that 1) it's been tried in the past, 2) other school districts tried similar reforms, 3) it doesn't matter, the superintendent who came in to reform the schools will be gone and everything will change "back to normal" eventually. In the process of becoming cynical and apathetic about change, NOTHING EVER CHANGES. This current administration with KW, Ozzie and the coaching staff just seems to have grown stale. It's pretty obvious they need a fresh approach, a new outlook, a rallying point for everyone to believe in. Whatever you want to call it, a vision or mission statement. I know the D-Backs get cited a lot, but the coaching staff over there has instilled the idea that "other teams might be more talented, but we're not going to lose games because we don't hustle. We're going to come out and put pressure on the opponent, make them beat us....and in the process, more often than not, they'll make mental/physical mistakes and we'll get some wins that could have gone either way." It's another way of restating the "Twins Way." It's not even whether Walker or Guillen or KW are "nice persons" or "good at their jobs," it just FEELS like the time for a change has arrived.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 05:08 PM) Just to play devil's advocate...which manager would have enabled Dunn, Beckham, and Q to hit (consistently)? I'll give Rios blows and was a gamble and same with Pierre. But if this team has an average Dunn and the Beckham we saw in '09 and 2nd half of '10, we're leading the division by double digits. And would this same manager be able to keep the same awesomeness of the pitching staff? Would that manager continue batting a terrible contact hitter 3rd and claim there's no room for a hot hitting minor leaguer on the current roster?

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 04:48 PM) He's awful with the media. Can't see him ever managing as that's part of the gig. I'd be ok with Cooper leaving for the Yankees or another team if it meant the Kenny/Ozzie/Cora/Walker thing would get blown up. I'm thoroughly disgusted with this whole organization. It's like we're forced to pretend nothing is wrong because there's a chance we'll win this pathetic division. But can anyone honestly say they enjoy watching this club on a day-to-day basis win or lose? The brand of baseball, the Ozzie/Kenny thing, the marketing of the team, Hawk, ...all of it. It's just garbage everywhere you look. I'm in complete agreement. It's been a chore watching/following the games this season. Even when we win it's barely satisfying.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) Funny thing is Kenny always asks Ozzie if Oz "likes what we have; do you need anything?" Oz usually says he likes what we have. Ken ought to ask him tonight on the cell phone if he likes what we have going into the Minnie series. If Ozzie says yes, that is beyond belief. Hit him now when he's weak and get Dayan up here for Minnie. Are you advocating violence?

QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) I love coming here after a good afternoon loss. It's always so damn refreshing! Almost as refreshing as this annoying video. -

I say we bring up Viciedo and sign that crazy Cirque Du Soleil guy that threw a backflip fastball for a strike. If anything, we can get more fans to the ballpark. -

One thing is for certain. The Twins pitching staff is having a nice, relaxing flight to O'Hare later tonight. -

I don't understand how anyone thinks this team, as constructed, will be anything more than a .500 ballclub. -
