  1. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) No judge would award 200 million for a case like this. I'm no lawyer but I was estimate at least 2-4 million? Not sure what they could ultimately get for this but both United and the aviation police screwed up. First of all, United did not follow policy/protocol for bumping someone off a flight who did not volunteer to do so. Someone posted the link earlier but if they were going to remove him from the plane, he was supposed to be offered up to 4x the cost of his ticket in cash/check (maxed at $1300 or so). They only offered $800 and it was in United vouchers so that shouldn't have counted. The police, on the other hand, used excessive force against a non-threatening senior citizen and wound up doing serious physical damage. I just don't see how he doesn't get a pretty hefty settlement.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 10:57 AM) Wasn't it technically aviation police? Yes it was.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 10:33 AM) I wonder how much they'll receive in settlement money from United over this. Probably just a couple million? 1-2 mill plus medical costs paid for? I'll guess more since his teeth were knocked out, he was concussed, requires reconstructive surgery and was publically humiliated.
  4. What I'd do to see the beautiful footage of this bomb exploding. Brings up Leonard Cohen verses in my mind.
  5. Anyone catch Louis CK's new Netflix special? I actually turned it off after about 20 minutes. It was painful to get through. He just seemed off for whatever reason and was even wearing a suit which is strange for him.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 08:48 AM) No wonder he was bleeding so much, he lost two of his teeth. Whatever. People are overreacting. United had a right to remove him. /s
  7. Never heard of this guy but is hilarious. NSFW
  8. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 02:16 PM) And then put up a fit about it to the point where police were called. Sure. For some reason, I can't help but think that if this happened to you, you might have caused a stink as well. You paid for your ticket. Went to your seat and put your stuff away. Had important meetings to get to in the morning for work. And all of a sudden they ask you to get off the plane so you could take a flight the next day. You'd be 100% calm and ok with that? I know I wouldn't be.
  9. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 11:26 AM) People can be mad about more than one thing at a time. There is plenty of reason for people to be outraged about video of a guy being dragged off his seat on an airplane after being bumped. There's also plenty of reason to be outraged about a judge being shot in Chicago. Or Assad using sarin gas in Syria. Or the shooting in the school in California. Being mad about each and every one of those things is possible! All good points
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 05:55 PM) ... it's amazing to me how many people want to see them burn to the ground over one isolated incident. More like the straw that broke the camel's back. They are regarded by many who fly as the worst in customer service and some other stories were added in this thread to reflect that. Here's another one for you to shrug off since nothing seems to bother you.
  11. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) I wasn't specifically talking about this board. I haven't been following this story, but I've seen plenty of headlines and fake UA commercials and ads, but very little about the school shooting. Maybe oversaturation of shootings? People get desensitized when it's a headline seemingly every other day.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) Or the judge in Chicago getting gunned down. I can only speak for myself but it's hard to get worked up after a mass shooting, knowing nothing will change. After a room full of pre-schoolers were killed and literally nothing changed because of it...what else can I do about it? No one is stopping you guys from creating a new thread to discuss these specific shootings.
  13. From someone on the flight. Nice to see that people tried to help in whatever way they could (see bolded):
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 02:18 AM) This is just ridiculous, the stock price will rebound as soon as people move on to the next faux outrage subject. No long-term shareholder value has been lost as a result of this. United will pay some measly settlement to this guy (a big amount for him but not them) and people will continue to fly an airline they generally dislike because that's the way the industry works. No matter how hard people like you or BigSqwert to try to burn them to the ground, they will keep chugging along like business as usual. So maybe it's time you find a different "cause" to put your efforts behind, because you're just wasting your time with this one. What the hell are you talking about? We're having a discussion on a baseball message board, not organizing a million man march.
  15. Curious how much of this is true. Snatched it from a self-proclaimed lawyer who posted on reddit:
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 09:37 AM) Not even their United employees, but for Republic, a smaller partner airline. Wait, so let me get this straight.... They decided to board everyone on the plane. Then they realized they had 4 Republic Airlines employees who wanted to take this flight and tried to get 4 paying customers to deboard? They have a senior citizen forcefully removed, bloodying his face, while passengers scream and children begin crying. The CEO of United then issues a sorry-not-sorry apology which blames the old man for being disruptive. The CPD claims the man fell even though there is plenty of video footage contradicting this. Wow. Business classes will be studying this debacle for years.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 08:56 AM) Someone would have accepted at some point. It seems weird that nobody did. They screwed up by doing this AFTER the plane was boarded. Who the heck wants to get their stuff off a plane after they've boarded....on a Sunday night when the next flight is on Monday? This should have been taken care of before they boarded passengers until they got their 4 volunteers.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 06:14 PM) By law they are allowed to remove passengers from the flight. Are you sure this is true? I'm reading a ton of discussion on this and quite a few people are saying that once he boarded they no longer had a right to do that. They could have refused to let him board and provided him an alternative to getting to his destination.
  19. And the winner for worst take goes to.....
  20. Apparently one of the officers involved is now on leave. Likely paid if I were to guess.
  21. Maybe they'll release a video of the officer handing this poor guy a can of Pepsi.
