QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 26, 2016 -> 04:21 PM) I want to get into Westworld really bad but it's just not working. I'm having the same struggles. It's a combination of the pacing and lack of any real stakes at this point. Oh look! Another robot was killed and will come back to life in the next scene.

QUOTE (SmashROT @ Oct 27, 2016 -> 06:27 AM) Now a 1-1 series. This Cubs team is just that good, no way around it. In less than a week it'll probably be official, and every preconceived notion you had about what Chicago baseball should look like will be turned on it's head. Prepare yourselves friends. We're going to take a verbal beating at the bar and at work for several years to come. We had 11 measly years of bragging rights (and about half of those years we weren't bragging at all). In context of 108 years, that's peanuts. Couldn't they wait another few? Having them win it all might not be a bad thing in the long run. The national fascination with them will likely erode as it did with Boston.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 26, 2016 -> 09:25 PM) Best of 5, and the Cubs have homefield advantage. Home field advantage isn't a huge thing in baseball IMO. I'm sure most will disagree.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 26, 2016 -> 01:31 PM) They basically shot it exactly the way it happened in the comics. Doesn't mean anything to me since I don't read the comics. EDIT: Plus, it's completely different when you compare a comic still to video footage of someone's head getting bashed in repeatedly.

QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Oct 26, 2016 -> 10:54 AM) I'm wide awake and know the Tribe are a good baseball team. They've been kicking the Sox rear ends ( and most of the AL central) the last couple years. I just think the Cubs are the more talented team and are next to impossible to beat in a 7 game series. Their bats are gonna wake up tonight against Bauer. Hendricks at Wrigley in game 3 is almost a guaranteed victory as well. The Cubs got to Kershaw the second time around at Wrigley and I think they will do the same to Kluber. I hope I'm wrong, but I see the Cubs rattling off 3 straight Ws starting tonight. I didn't realize Kluber pitched in all 9 post season games for Cleveland so far in order for them to get their 8 wins. /sarcasm In all seriousness, in non-Kluber post season games, the Tribe are 5-0 while giving up on average 2 runs per game. And this was against two very good offensive teams.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 26, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) Indians will be forgotten the minute the series is over if cubs win and that will encompass all off-season coverage. MLBN will replay every cub game from this past season and replay the playoffs weekly. Indians will be forgotten by mid-November if they win whole thing as the story will be how good the cubs will be next year, Yankee youth movement and Boston reloading. A little sprinkling of Indians, Dodgers, Texas, Giants and Nationals on rare occasions. We may also see stories about how the Pope and Dalai Lama have been die hard Cubs fans their entire lives and maybe even a documentary about a small Somali village where everyone was huddled around the only radio available in town, rooting for the Cubs throughout the post season, hoping to one day be able to visit Murphy's to do jello shots. I'm getting teary eyed just thinking about it.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 26, 2016 -> 08:26 AM) I find it interesting that nobody is really talking about... Who cares? Cubs, Cubs, Cubs. That's all that matters. The entire world wants the Cubs to win. They are not only America's team, but Planet Earth's team. Can you tell I am so sick of the attention that the Cubs are getting?

Just makes me really appreciate how dominant our 2005 team was. 11-1 in the post season and the one loss was by 1 run. But yet so many keep putting this Cubs team on some pedestal, making it seem like this is the greatest baseball team ever assembled. That's 4 losses already in the post season and I expect more.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 25, 2016 -> 03:31 PM) October 25, 2005 - Game #3 of the World Series set the record for the longest game by time duration in history. The 14 inning game went 5:41 minutes in Houston and ended when another Sox role player, Geoff Blum belted a home run giving the club the lead at 6-5. It would end 7-5 with Game #2 starter Mark Buehrle picking up the save. We've got the audio AND video of Blum's blast. Announcer: Joe Buck. Courtesy: Fox Sports. http://www.chicagonow.com/soxnet/2016/10/t...ngs-in-houston/ Mark I remember scrambling after the win to change my flight from Dallas (work trip) to Houston after that game. Glad I was able to make it work and go to the clincher the next day.

QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 25, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) I am on pins and needles. Get this started. I want to see how the Tribe handles the cubs. I honestly won't even tune in. Haven't tuned in yet for any of their games. I'm so petty I don't want to add to their ratings. I'll check the box score before I go to bed.

QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Oct 25, 2016 -> 03:21 PM) No guilt here. Go Tribe! Same here. Biggest Tribe fan in Seattle this week.

After watching The Walking Dead season premier last night, the wife and I both looked at each other and questioned why we continue to watch the show. It's become straight up torture porn. Just felt sick watching it.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 25, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) Nobody respects women more than Drumpf does! And just imagine the wall he would build in the outfield! Heck, we could build a brand new stadium and have someone else pay for it. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 25, 2016 -> 01:36 PM) He can appoint Drumpf as our GM since our trade deals are a disaster right now and no one knows more than he does about trade deals. That would be tremendous, like his ability to make terrific deals. -

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Oct 25, 2016 -> 11:52 AM) Maybe he can lead a new ownership group? That's actually a decent idea. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 25, 2016 -> 08:43 AM) Is there any type of precedent for what Schwarber is going? I have seen a lot of people say that they don't think he'll be able to hit with such a long layoff but I'm in the who the hell knows camp. I could easily see him being just fine or being completely awful because I have nothing to go off of. Here's to hoping he's rusty as heck and K's every time.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 25, 2016 -> 05:11 AM) NEW: Drumpf threw parties with cocaine and girls as young as 15 I'm sure the religious right will find an excuse to look past this. Supreme court nominees!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 02:38 PM) The problem with calling the Cubs fan base "casual" is that they drew huge numbers even at their worst for decades now. The Twins, Sox, and Brewers don't do that. I guess that's part of my point. Maybe it's not a huge percentage of people who attend the games, but out of town visitors make it a point to go check out a game at Wrigley. It's literally a top tourist destination and a fun place to knock down a few cold ones. It'd be like going to check out the Golden Gate Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, etc. Checking out a game at Wrigley and hanging out in that neighborhood is just something people do when they visit Chicago.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 02:35 PM) The interesting thing about that is both candidates are trending down, Drumpf just more convincingly. I wonder if those are moving to undecided or 3rd party. I only added that graph because that Infowar article mentions how this will be just like Brexit again and as you can see, it's not really comparable.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) Sox fans are a lot more like Twins and Brewers fans to me, a small core group that grows with success, but not the ingrained diehard culture. Right or wrong, I always look at the smaller Sox, Twins, and Brewers fan bases as being die hard with the Cubs fan base being more casual. And you cannot deny what Wrigleyville has become. It's a straight up party that everyone wants to be a part of. I have yet to meet anyone out west here who is dying to go see a game at . They all mention how they want to go to Wrigley field and how it's their favorite stadium even though most of them have never been.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 01:12 PM) Wow. This guy with the huge call for Drumpf. via

As others have mentioned on this board, it seems like we're not very different than SF and LA and they both made it to the postseason. 2 or 3 stud starting pitchers, a very good closer, 3 to 4 great bats and you should be in the mix. Problem is, I don't trust this front office to add the 3 or 4 pieces to get us over the hump but I also don't trust them to blow it up and start from scratch. Seems like a lose-lose situation as long as Reinsdorf owns this team.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 01:45 PM) The question will be what they do in the offseason to upgrade their pen. They could win the bidding war for Chapman and assuming he doesn't shoot his wife this offseason he alone leaves you with a pretty strong back end. He's having a meh post season so maybe it's good if they overpay for him.

Bullpen arms seem to fluctuate from year to year. Who knows, maybe it'll be their Achilles heal next season.

Good stuff Mark
