The White Sox are absolutely in love with Viciedo. Swisher moving means he will be signed, I'd put money on that. I'm guessing about 4 years at 2.5-3 mill per for Dayan.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) I don't need batting average to tell me Swisher wasn't a productive player last year. I was just saying I didn't realize he was THAT bad (still not the worst.) You can change the color of "Swisher" in your signature now.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) Am I the only one who kind of likes this trade? Okay yes, it sucks dumping a guy after giving up prospects to the A's last year (although De Los Santos is really the only guy who could come back and bite them) but lets face it, Swish was a guy without a position on this team who's numbers had fallen off significantly. No. I personally like the trade. Swish had his issues and really annoyed me regardless with his chirpy, love the world attitude despite the fact that he couldn't hit a lick. All these players we received are flawed (I don't think Nunez will ever matter), but that's Kenny's thing. We got Floyd when he was basically considered the same way Marquez is, and Kenny was smart to go after a sinkerballer... they have success in the Cell. Also, Betemit, despite his lack of PT, has some pretty good raw abilities and at different times has shown an ability to hit for average and power. He's 27, and possibly older, so it's not like he's a spring chicken, however, he can do Uribe's job more effectively and definitely gives us some more options.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) So you are saying my nickname for him, "the out machine", was not inaccurate? I think it was about as accurate a nickname as you could think of...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:17 PM) So does Marquez have a chance to compete for the 5th starter spot in ST? I don't see why not. I think he'll go the route of Floyd though... half a year to learn what Coop wants, then come up and be "meh" mostly and then 2010 start to show us middle of the rotation stuff. Not bad.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) Congrats to TCQ, shame he won't have that MVP trophy to go along with this. Next year.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:06 PM) Like someone seeing a particular playing doing blow off of a stripper's chest in the locker room after a minor league game? Ooooooooooooooo. Saucy.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) Or an illusion. *queues 'The Final Countdown'* COME ON!

This is about Carlos. Congrats Carlos and congrats Kenny for the biggest ripoff trade I've seen in awhile!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) In writing it's Libel. Thank you Sir Balta. I don't like these types of sweeping statements. If he gets hammered every night, it doesn't really matter... but the way that statement was written, as fact, without anything to back it up, was a joke.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Now that I know the trade is legit, I will say that PEDs was not the only issue Swisher had off the field. For his sake, I hope he cleans up his act. In all seriousness, would you like to back up this slanderous allegation?

Not only that, but he was 9 points worse than the next closest... And White Sox fans never once booed the bastard. Think what Yankee fans will do to him!

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) Could this be one of those moves that now we turn around and deal Fields, Betemit, and Marquez to Baltimore for Roberts?? It definitely gives us some options.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) The good news is that Betemit on a very similar offensive career path to Crede. In fact, his defense might be a bit better. The kid can handle every position on the field barring C, P, and CF. Don't say that to Kalapse.

QUOTE (SnB @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) i, for one, am looking forward to that glorious mustache THAT'S my contribution to this thread...

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) The big two trades last offseason = massive busts Eh, two good prospects for Garland is better than the Type B comp we'd have gotten had we kept him.

Johnny Nunez, Wilson Betemit, Jeff Marquez That's more like it, I love Wilson Betemit.
-
There must be more moves in the works. You don't just give away a guy like Swisher without other stuff in the works.
-
This has Kenny written all over it... got a former 1st rounder who's stock has dropped, and Marquez is a sinkerballer too...

QUOTE (Buck Weaver's Ghost @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) How am I the first to post this? Minor league pitcher Jeff Marquez is headed to Chicago in the deal. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3700869 QUOTE (Buck Weaver's Ghost @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) How am I the first to post this? I don't get this one, by the way. Marquez best be quite impressive.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 11:29 AM) Pelfrey had a decent season over here actually, and seemed to be finally living up to some of his potential. That sinker would work well at the Cell also. Not that the Mets would give him up. He's not arbitration eligible yet IIRC, so he's cheap, and Minaya wants pitching. I think he'd rather give up more highly rated prospects than Pelfrey at this point because that team pretty much HAS to make the playoffs next season, and they're not going to give up major league talent that'll hinder them from doing that. Very good point.
