Official 2008-2009 NFL Thread

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 04:43 PM) Chad Ocho Cinco has to buy $4 million in C. Johnson jerseys from Reebok in order to have Ocho Cinco on the back of his. What's funny is he'll probably do it, because he can't really back down now. -
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) Ok, I'm the king of snark and Kaperbole , but can we please stop now? It's getting almost unbearable reading in here now - everyone is getting so petty, and it's not just this thread, it's pretty much this whole damn forum. If you've noticed, even I've stopped the over the top stuff because honestly, I'm annoying myself. Lovin' the trademark.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) I love the grammar police. When all somebody can do is be critical of a grammatical faux pas, they are obviously having trouble finding something in the content itself to be critical of. It's also a sign of grouchiness, and I love when I annoy people. Hahaha. I mean, it's a message board. If we were submitting articles for the Web or something, by all means let's double check our work. But if I want to start a sentence with "But" or end a sentence with a preposition, I will because it's a damn message board to post your feelings on. Ignoring comments by people who make a simple mistake because they don't care or are in a hurry only shows that you're out of retorts, imho.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) Was he in the middle of running again in his last year? Because if he wasn't, I would argue they weren't comparable because he'd essentially be lame duck. You forgot an article in this post, so I guess no one is supposed to listen to your comments now? Let's try to not play grammar police, because I'm sure everyone slips up every now and then, even you (obviously).

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 05:26 PM) Palin doesn't need to be swiftboated - she's a total disaster with just reprinting the truth about her record. She's not a fiscal conservative (spending, earmarks, lobbyists, etc.) She's lied on the stump repeatedly (the bridge, plane, chef, etc.) She believes the Iraq War was sanctioned by God. She's against abortion even in the cases of rape & incest. She supports corrupt GOP Senator Ted Stevens. Troopergate is real. There's no media bias here - someone who is this bad at her job after only a year and a half is not a good choice for VP. The choice is clear. That's exactly what makes this so disgusting. Palin is working for McCain... despite all the flaws, and the flat out lies that are being told, it's working. I know it's a little too much to ask, but there should be penalties for false information being reported. This is false advertising, where are the slander lawsuits? I just feel the election system is screwed up when those who have no idea what they are voting for have the same amount of value placed on their vote as those who take the time to get educated. However, that's a much much bigger and probably ridiculous idea that needs to be tapped into.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) On top of it, it diminishes what they did for Hull/Mikita/Espo. Bob f***ing Probert? The Hawks are celebrating Bob Probert? This one's probably more for the Wirtz's than anything. Probert was a family friend and Bill Sr did his best to keep Bob on the right side of the tracks. Perhaps he has once again fully reformed, and this is to honor that. I guess honoring the struggle of Probert and how he's fought against addiction is something you can't really argue against. -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 12:12 PM) The marketing of this team is getting a tad out of hand. At some point they need to let the hockey take over, like now. Kinda hard when the season doesn't start for another month! -

Bob Probert Night... first 5,000 get free cocaine, next 5,000 get free trip to rehab. -
Yesterday was a TERRIBLE day for the White Sox, but losing Konerko for a few games (or the season) shouldn't end us. How brilliant does that Junior trade look now? Give me this lineup. SS Cabrera 2B Ramirez RF Dye DH Thome LF Junior C Pierzynski 1B Swisher 3B Uribe 70 Fields 30 CF Anderson/Wise LR platoon

I felt this deserved it's own thread just like Lost. I think Fringe is going to be fantastic given how excellent the first episode was (encore Sunday night). Not only was it original (despite the blatant Lost music at cutscenes), but the show has a great cast and the preview of the season looked fantastic. Next week, with House as a lead-in, my Tuesday nights are now FOX all the way. What were some other impressions of Fringe?

QUOTE (Jeremy @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 08:43 PM) If Paully's out long term - and I agree it looks awfully bad - we really ought to try Griffey at 1B, Swish in LF, and some combination of Anderson/Owens/Wise in CF. I'd also be down with playing Fields at 1B every day for a week or two to see if he can nail down the job. Swish at 1st, Grif in left?

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 05:22 PM) I dont think one villain would be enough in a batman movie, the 2nd one did a very good job at developing both Two Face and Joker so I dont understand why people think it cant be done. I wasnt a big fan of the penguin in the old batman movie but being played by Dustin Hoffman sounds intriguing. Ofcourse Johnny Depp would be perfect for the Riddler. Phillip Seymour Hoffman...

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 04:06 PM) Why would Alexei be bunting? Why just why? To put the tying run in scoring position. That'd be my guess. -
