  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 5, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) None of us can know of course, but reading the article, I tend to think Cedric's story is B.S. Its got the classic gap in there. He says he politely asked a question, then the officer just peppered him? Sorry but, I don't believe that. There is s*** in between that he is leaving out, and I doubt anything about the exchange was "polite". ^^^^^^^^

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 5, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) To each their own. I've been told before I have odd taste. For example, I don't think Angelina Jolie is terribly attractive. I agree whole heartedly that Maggie > Katie.
  3. There's some column you can write into at the Sun Times, I think it's called "The Fixer" or something, and they can normally get s*** done.
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ May 5, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) Honestly she is too beautiful for any man to have her.I cant see any guy being good enough for her. Ryan Reynolds, however, is too beautiful for any woman to have him. Thusly, they are perfect for one another.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 5, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) And I watched some of that video. To say that's graphic is an understatement. OK, I never played that part of the game and have sold it for obvious reasons. To say I'm surprised at that video is an understatement. That was ridiculous.
  6. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 5, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) Perhaps. But maybe not. He was asking who draws the line and where. I'm trying to go step by step. Each one of us will probably hit a line where we know the game went too far. Today, it may be only a small percentage of our society, tomorrow maybe more. But at some point society will draw the line. And some people standing on the other side of the line will call the other group scum. But a line will be drawn. That it will. The line changes from time to time, but I think there's a certain level of decency that any game/movie should follow. To be fair, when the chick was chucked into the hole filled with hypodermic needles in Saw II, I thought that crossed a line... and the addition to "executions" in GTA IV might have approached the line. Like I said, I sold the game, but I don't think it's worth this type of hubbub.
  7. New commercial nomination. 1 877 Kars for Kids K A R S Kars for Kiids 1 877 Kars for Kids Donate your car today... I hate that jingle.
  8. QUOTE (Shadows @ May 5, 2008 -> 12:48 PM) Nope, thats not what im saying.. but this poll is comparing the hardest position to play against the easiest position to play.. and im not saying that McNown isn't a failure either but any of those three running backs should be considered a bust before McNown.. I agree, I only had McNown in there so when the first person wouldn't say "where's mcnown?" My vote belongs with Cedric, because debilitating injuries are not what causes him to suck, looking up to Ricky Williams is what causes him to suck. Also, at least Salaam ran for over 1,000 yards once.
  9. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 5, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) Really? Killing babies with graphic blood? Flying planes into towers? Animated sex with animals? Animated sex with kids? Torture of children, animals? None of those would be banned in your world? I don't think he thought out his response. Just wanted to point out that GTA IV has no children in it's world... even though I know you've reached a much broader subject. I just think games should be policed the same way as movies.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 5, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) Wanted to highlight the above in bold. This to me is a disturbing trend that has gone on for some time: violence in the extreme is more acceptable than nudity or sexuality. That, to me, is horrible. For all the uproar about Janet Jackson's nipple and nudity in the movies, I think the detrimental effect of those things pales in comparison to the effect of the great tidal wave of violence in movies and video games. Not directed at you Steve, I am speaking more generally here. For sure, I agree with you whole-heartedly on this point, but that's the big societal issue. I was really only arguing against standards. We're all so used to violence, to blood, to all that, that Thompson making a fuss out of GTA IV is comical really.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 5, 2008 -> 12:46 PM) Not that this changes your point but there are actually a few. I guess I stopped playing by that point. I'm sure it's no worse than the drug use in "Blow," "Pulp Fiction," or on select epidodes of America's most watched program CSI.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 5, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) Regardless of what we may want to discuss about the game, society, etc., we need to not make this about any religion or class of people. We are coming dangerously close to personal attacks. Keep it under wraps please. But that's just it, he was talking about Thompson, not about Christian beliefs. He didn't even say Thompson's beliefs were the scum-worthy part, he just said Thompson was. The whole thing could have been avoided if people just read the original post.
  13. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 5, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) Do you believe there could be a video game created that should be banned? If there's been a movie that's been banned then there could be a video game that is banned. Ratings are there for a reason. In GTA IV, one can kill, there's talk of drugs, one can hear sexual acts, but that's it. There's no nudity, there's no actual shots of people doing drugs. GTA IV would be an R-rated film, hence the "MATURE" rating. If a parent buys this game for their child, it's no different than letting said child watch Total Recall. Where's Thompson's quest to ban that film? Hell, there's a chick with three boobs in it!
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 5, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) I'm obviously not in favor of censorship, but the question was posed so as to make a comparison between video games and child porn absurd, but in a conversation about censorship we are basically talking about the holy grail and standard of violent video games. So when you are asking "where is the line" a comparison to something as obviously objectionable as child porn is valid. No, it's not. Child porn involves the video taping of sexual acts with a minor. GTA IV involves pushing buttons and watching a television. The comparison could not be further off and is ridiculous. Using child porn as an argument in any way against GTA IV is a goddamned joke and WAYYYY more offensive than GoSox05's misinterpreted post referring to Thompson and not "a billion people."
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2008 -> 12:29 PM) So I guess according to your standards that would make you scum for pushing your beliefs on us? That's fair I guess. Yeah, when I do that I'll link you up. I didn't push anything, I argued that you overreacted/mis-read. Now I realize you didn't mis-read...
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 5, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) Well, it's not like we are talking about Mario Bros. subject matter here. This is Grand Theft Auto. Well, let's bring up movies like "Saw II" and books such as "Choke" while we're at it. Let's bring up any CD that has a Parental Advisory on it. His singling out of a video game is stupid. DISCLAIMER: I only intend to call Thompson stupid, not his Christian moral code.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 5, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) As for the topic at hand, for those who don't know who he is, Jack Thompson is an absolute moron, and his opinion is completely irrelevant when it comes to video games these days. I believe he has had his license to practice taken away now because of his antics. I would not support this guy on any of his believes. Video games should not have any restrictions put on them that are any worse than what the movie industry has. Let the parents handle it, and I don't think there is any arguing against it. But he's a Christian so you just insulted a billion people!
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2008 -> 12:11 PM) And why is does he consider him scum? Because he wants people to follow a Christian moral code. To me that says it all. Its insulting. If he had said someone was scum for wanting people to follow a black code, a female code, or any other code, there would have been plenty of reactions. To me, it is the samething. Have you ever been gambling? Ever watched an R-Rated flick? Ever sipped on an alcoholic beverage? I understand if people are against a video game and don't want to play it, but sending hate filled e-mails to video game creators' mothers is another thing entirely. There's a reason the game has a rating, and for him to be a freak about it even existing is taking it too far. GoSox05 calling Thompson scum is different than calling his Christian beliefs scum. The pushing of the beliefs is where the problem lies, and the manner in which he does so.
  19. QUOTE (rangercal @ May 5, 2008 -> 12:02 PM) sold your game already? Yup. Realized if I am embarrassed playing a game in front of my wife, I don't need it. To be honest, GTA IV was not nearly the breakthrough as many reviewers have claimed. It's fun, sure, but it's largely the same game as previous entries in the franchise. Let's just say I'd rather drop 40 with Micheal than shoot up strip clubs. I guess I've evolved!
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2008 -> 11:56 AM) I am pretty sure calling people who follow a Christian moral code, "scum" is against the new rules in the Buster. At very least it is pretty offensive to me anyway. Dude. He didn't say people who follow a Christian moral code are scum. He said Jack Thompson is scum because he wants to force people to follow his moral code. GoSox05 said NOTHING about the Christian moral code being scum, he was talking about Thompson.
  21. QUOTE (shipps @ May 5, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) I would say that level of bust should probably be based on the level of hype compared to the let down. And the level of hype normally coincides with the position at which said player is drafted.
  22. QUOTE (shipps @ May 5, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) Its not basketball, football your first round pick should be an eventual starter no matter where you pick him. But when you are comparing a bunch of players who all busted, I'd say the guys who were in the top 5 carry more weight than the guy who wasn't even in top 10.
  23. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 5, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) SurveyUSA- Clinton +12 in Indiana No SurveyUSA NC poll Never know what to believe, the SunTimes this morning had an article claiming that Indiana was Obama's to lose. link
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 5, 2008 -> 11:43 AM) And then they can say goodbye to a lot of moderate voters come November, not to mention lose the support of a lot of democratic supers for campaigning purposes. Which is why they aren't going that route. I sure as s*** hope not, because it would be completely ridiculous and make this process even more of a joke.
  25. QUOTE (shipps @ May 5, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) We will win by 6 runs today so Iam not worried about the situation at all. Good to know.
