White Sox @ Indians - Opening Day Game Thread
Steve9347 replied to Heads22's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE(shipps @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 08:47 AM) Best case scenario for me,2 1/2 hour rain delay followed by 3 hours of glorious uninterrupted baseball.I get off work at 4. Ha, same here! (well, 4:30) -
White Sox @ Indians - Opening Day Game Thread
Steve9347 replied to Heads22's topic in 2008 Season in Review
MLB is so retarded. An entire series gets snowed out in Cleveland to start the year in 2007, now its supposed to poor rain all day there as well. You'd think they'd stick the first few weeks worth of games in warmer climate/domed areas. It's highly doubtful either Chicago team will get a game in today. -
My major was communications - media studies. I just landed my second job (spent two years in the first one, you have to)... I do Marketing/Graphic Design. The key really is interview skills, and also taking the time to teach yourself a few things. If you know how to work specialized programs nothing can stop you...

Stoney new guy on the Score-somebody should tell the Sox
Steve9347 replied to palehose23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 05:29 PM) The "source" was listed as the Score in the second and third posts of the thread. Evidently you didn't look very hard. You should have clicked the link. He was making the fairly obvious joke that the White Sox haven't updated their team broadcasters page. -
Just an update... they were so impressed they called me hours later and notified me that they'd be extending an offer. THIS ROCKS.

QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 07:59 AM) And a very funny joke at that. Thanks for the good laugh. You are most welcome.

2007-2008 NHL Catch All Thread
Steve9347 replied to kapkomet's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 12:31 PM) Last night had nothing to do with Khabi. Well, it had something to do with him, but he did make 33 saves or so on 37 shots. The whole team took a collective stinky dumb on the cold ice last night and it steamed. -
QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 10:45 AM) I'll admit I was to NorthSider's comment, but I won't to yours. Your comment was the one that really pisses me off. No, I don't live in a trailer, but I also don't go around making rude, sterotypical comments about people that live in them either. I don't apologize because it was such an obvious joke. When did Soxtalk become the no-fun zone? And to think I was such a fan of Monsters, Inc!
-
Since it's kind of on topic, I've been in my current position for two years, but tomorrow morning will be interviewing for the "next step" which will be a much more lucrative option and also 5 minutes away from home vs. the 45 I drive each way now. Some one, for the love of God, wish me a bunch of luck!

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 05:51 PM) Honestly, not your best thread Steve. That's just like.... yer opinion... man.
-
QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) Maybe I'm over-reacting a bit, I'll admit, but I still think it's a valid point and falls under the rules of Soxtalk: I'd say you are over-reacting more than just a bit there.

QUOTE(max power @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) Uribe may have increased his value, decreased it, or it might be the same. I'd put my house on him not having increased value.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 02:01 PM) Edited for accuracy. The Sox didn't exactly look like world-beaters going into 2005, either. Be fair and wait until June or so before declaring the Sox a "joke." Actually, I was quite high on the White Sox going into 2005 because of their pitching staff and the addition of a true leadoff hitter and a catcher who could actually hit. Do you remember before 05 when we had 5th starter woes? What do you think of 3rd, 4th, AND 5th starter woes?
-
QUOTE(max power @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) No, I was happy they put him on waivers and supposedly someone picked him up. Then richar broke his rib and I was happy when they took him off waivers. Richar will heal, and uribe will be gone. Kenny made the right moves. I don't see how you can blame him for richar breaking a rib. Seriously, its obvious you skimmed to the paragraph headers and then went on super defend the White Sox mode. How does this statement in my original post say I blame Kenny for Richar's injury? Just show me that one spot and I'll care what you have to say. Right now, however, you're on my ignore list.

I blame him for not taking a golden opportunity to move Juan Uribe. He could have just as easily signed Marcus Giles whose production would be downright identical at 1/5 of Uribe's salary. Uribe knows he's unwanted, and now he's still here. They are throwing away money, but like I said that's not my problem. I actually watch these games though, and watching Uribe for ONE MORE AT BAT will be one too many. Interesting tidbit from Jason Grey today.

QUOTE(max power @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) Blah blah blah. Overreaction blame-game bulls*** with simple minded answers for complex situations. You may be Steve #9347, & you'll never be Steve Number One to me. You're a real man of long winded complaints based on false pretenses. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid, dude. If you're ecstatic the Sox didn't cut ties with Uribe, good for you... me? I'm a realist.

Canseco "introduced" Rodriguez to Steroid dealer
Steve9347 replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in The Diamond Club
Personally, I think if A-Rod had actually done what Canseco says, it would have been in his first book. Canseco just wants another payday. -
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) Unlike previous years there are players that can replace him if he fails which he might. There are at least two other guys that can step right in. For the 2008 season the higher ceilings guys are Crede and Uribe. They will both be on short leashes and will be DFA'd should they suck. They are getting the first shot. What is the big f***ing deal with everyone. It is not like Fields, Ramirez and Richar even that Bourgoise fellow are being released. I like that there are options over Erstad and Andy Gonzalez this year. That fact that people are complaining that Phillips was sent down over releasing Hall is absolutely laughable and borders are insanity. Those people will bith to b****. If Hall sucks he can be DFA'd and Phillips can be recalled. Again what is the big f***ing deal. None of Crede, Uribe, Hall, Fields, Phillips, and whoever the golden child to play second over Uribe will be the reason this team loses as they guys are not expected to carry the team. It will come down to Konerko, Thome, Dye, Swisher, the bullpen, Contreras and one of Danks or Floyd to live up to expectations. You make a valid argument at top. I care much less about the Crede situation than Uribe, as we know his ceiling is a .250 average with a ton of strikeouts and a .290 OBP. I feel he should be backing up if we have to have him on the roster. He'd be an incredibly useful guy to backup at 2B/SS, and I'd rather see him in that role than starting. Ramirez has impressed, and should get regular at bats, not be a backup. As for Crede, whatever, I think stunting Fields' growth hurts the franchise more than letting Crede go for a bag of peanuts. As for Phillips, I don't care in the least that he was sent down. If Hall is actually healthy, which we'll find out soon enough, he can be incredibly valuable to this team. If he's hurting like he was last year, Phillips will be up soon enough.

Who do you want starting in the last outfield spot?
Steve9347 replied to DaTank's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Frank Thomas -
This is hilarious. Now the "depth" we have in having Uribe starting and fFelds in AAA is a good thing i guess. Seriously, Juan Uribe is an awful player, and now he's, YET AGAIN, in line for many at bats, just at a new position. This is a goddamn joke.
-
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) And do the Sox really want to start the service time clock on players when you have another one under contract for a year? If you agree with the Fields move, then you probably agree the Longoria move. Both are bad baseball moves.
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) He's been doing it for like 10 years now, you may as well get used to it. All the pitchers around the league generally are, and they should be seeing as how he's lit them up for 490 homers. That's what i was thinking. As long as I can remember Manny's been Manny and I don't think anything is going to change anytime soon. Seems he's in for quite the bounce back season already.

2007-2008 NHL Catch All Thread
Steve9347 replied to kapkomet's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Williams has been really good, I don't see Savvy's purpose here one bit. As for tonight's game, Leclaire is still injured, so the Hawks should win handily.
