QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 03:36 PM) We could have kept him if Armstrong wasn't on the 40-man for some mysterious reason or if KW didn't idiotically give Uribe 4.5 million. And it would have made absolutely zero difference. Who the f*** cares about David Aardsma?

Your best (and worst) moments as a fan
Steve9347 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Maryland was ranked #12, and I will never forget that game... I was a sophomore and I must have had about twenty beers that day, and had a huge group at the game (as we did every game)... the game was amazing and I'll never forget Dan Sheldon streaking down the sideline to grab that ball in OT. It was f***ing awesome. They also beat Alabama that year and Michael Turner still makes me proud everytime he gets to run for the Chargers. Another game that will go down for me was sitting 4th row, 1996-97 first round of the NHL Playoffs. Hawks were down 2 games to 0 to the Colorado Avalanche as the 8th seed. They won this game in double OT on a phenomenal goal by Sergei Krivokrasov over Patrick Roy's shoulder... Jim Cummins then tackled Krivo at center ice... I'll never forget my old man surprising me with those tickets (I was 14 at the time), and being there, 4th row, in that insanity was amazing. There's about a billion others, but those stick out. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) If Baltimore thought they had a shot at competing next year they might be up for that. But here's the problem. He's out right now for this year, but Baltimore has a young closer in Chris Ray who may be back and pitching again in 2009. And if they're committing to a multi year rebuilding process, Jenks would only hurt that process as he'll be departing at just about the point they'd want him to be staying. If they'd do it, I'd probably be open to it, but if I was B-More's GM, I wouldn't consider it. I want guys who can help me 2-3 years from now, not guys who can help me now. Jeebus I completely forgot about Chris Ray. This would give them options, but your point makes sense nonetheless.

Am I the only one who thinks Bobby Jenks + Uribe and maybe a Lance Broadway (or at most Gavin Floyd) could net Erik Bedard? With Dotel/Linebrink/MacDougal already don't we all think its worth it to get the type of talent Bedard is?? I think this would instantly make us contenders in the AL Central and the Orioles would be nuts to not bite on that package that gives them a young SP from the Baltimore area (if it was in fact Floyd), a SS they desperately need (even if he does like Krispy Kreme a bit too much), and a young closer in his arb years who just might be the best at what he does. Am I insane?

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 09:09 AM) why did that bug you? It was answered at the end. I was like, "it's great he likes Bale's character and all, but he's helping (especially in the end) and will wind up dead." His character was not the type that would sacrifice his life so Bale could get $200 and his son's respect. Once I realized he knew he'd be escaping and it was all a moot point, it all made sense.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) I trade Cole Hamels to Steve for Carl Crawford. Definitely. This fills a need of a top tier SP and Crawford was not going to be kept over my other choices. (Stevie Costigan, Jr. gets Cole Hamels, DrunkChimps gets Carl Crawford)

Who's got a SP they can give me for Carl Crawford?

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) OK, so I am at that point. I have been out of college for over 2 years and I have been working full time for the majority of it. I'm currently at home with the parents and have the desire to move out in the near future. I did a pre-approval at a bank a few weeks back and I was approved for a $200,000 loan if I do 20%. I don't have anything near $40,000 for a down payment right. Probably somewhere in the neighborhood of $15.000. Also, I have one or two friends lined up that would be in on renting a place with me or paying me rent if I buy a place. Now, from everyones experience, would it be wisest at this time to rent or to buy? I'd probably be looking at something in the $175k-180 range if I were to buy and most likely in the burbs around Schaumburg or the surrounding area. Any feedback is appreciated. If you want to go a little highher than that $175-180 range (which won't get you anything worthwhile) talk to your lender about opening two mortgages, the second of which covers part of a downpayment to get you to 20% to both avoid PMI as well as raise your lower level. Just an idea, just try to talk to a lender who can explain things to you. I highly recommend National City and can make a recommendation by PM if interested. You might want to rent for a year or so to save up for a downpayment, around here doing 100% financing or close to it will hurt you in the long run. Having graduated in Dec. 2005 and just bought an awesome house in Lombard (April 2007 close) for $280k, I might be able to lend you some valuable, current tips that will make sure you wind up with an affordable mortgage payment while making sure that your interest rate is fixed and you aren't paying too much interest with those monthly payments. If you have any questions just let me know.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 11:25 AM) I thought the show was excellent. I really enjoyed it. The prespectives and theories were fasinating. I highly recommend watching it. Yeah, I too watched it last night... it was quite interesting.

Can someone edit the topic to include that the Dotel/Ramirez signings are official? That's the much bigger news here.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 10:16 AM) "The press box seating chart had two seats reserved for scouts from the Chicago Blackhawks, who played in Phoenix on Saturday. There was also a media pass for Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon at the entrance. Tallon is on record saying Chicago needs a puck-moving defenseman. Brian Campbell, an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season who has cut off contract talks with the Sabres, is a puck-moving defenseman. " http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/story/257696.html I would hope Campbell could be locked up if we could acquire him. -
I'm down for that deal. Also mentioned this morning in the Suntimes. Don't know how I feel about trading Noah. I'd prefer to hold onto him and try to include someone else, but if it must be done then the price isn't too shabby.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 20, 2008 -> 05:44 PM) Heres another forward I would look at if I were DT... Pierre MacGuire stated that Alex Tanguay has agreed to waive his no trade clause on Friday. I'd love to get Alex... I've always been a fan and he's a great talent and eventually having him and little brother Maxime whom the Hawks drafted last year eventually playing together could be very entertaining and marketable. -
Signing the two best relievers in one off season is never a bad idea. If this team just had a legit #3 starter and a leadoff man I'd get pretty excited.

To add to the 3:10 to Yuma comments, I too just watched it. It was incredible... the only hole that bugged me throughout the movie was patched at the end when I really enjoyed this film and think its easily on the level of Tombstone and Unforgiven.

I know it's already posted above, but Savvy could not have picked a better time to agree with me. -

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 19, 2008 -> 10:00 AM) I still give the slight edge to Toews, just because the goalie screwed up the pokecheck on Nash's goal. Both spectacular goals, though. The Nash goal was much more impressive imo. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 19, 2008 -> 11:18 AM) See I think that's another reason Nash's goal is so impressive. The puck was indeed poke checked and he was able to stay composed and find the bouncing puck off his skate and hammer it in the net. Agreed, definitely. Nash's seemed to be on another level. -
QUOTE(almagest @ Jan 19, 2008 -> 12:55 AM) Damn straight. Worked at a video game store for two years. Been playing since I was three. Oh, yeah? I'll show you, random anonymous internet guy! /buys PS3; tries to buy Wii but can't find one, settles for two Gamecubes duct-taped together Hahaha, the power of two Gamecubes!

QUOTE(A's fan @ Jan 19, 2008 -> 03:16 AM) Any of you watch the game last night? Just got home but I recorded it and as I've said before Monta is one of the best youngsters in the leauge and Barron should be an all star. Good game though especially by Gordon,Nocioni. Since last season I have paid more attention to the Warriors, and they have quickly risen to my 2nd favorite franchise. I absolutely ADORE Baron Davis and considering where this team is at I was pretty much even on whom I wanted to win last night. I am also a HUGE Matt Barnes fan and the rest of that roster fills out nicely. Don Nelson drives me nuts on what his rotation does to fantasy value, but its about winning, and the guy just has these Warriors playing at their pique. It was also nice to see Noah get some minutes yet again, but I have to wonder why Sefolosha's getting the minutes yet Tyrus only rocks 2. I presume the more we lose, the more Tyrus we'll see... so keep it up. DISCLAIMER: I am not nor act as a Tyrus backer, I just think since we basically used a #2 overall pick on him (and passed on two future Portland All-Stars in the process) we should actually give him some sort of run.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 08:04 PM) Seems like they're trying to "jazz it up" and make it look like a certain website out of Bristol, CT. Their topics are getting more sensationalized as well. It'll take some getting used to. I was baiting for a Bristol comparison.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jan 19, 2008 -> 03:01 AM) Steve, looks like Savvy is agreeing with you regarding Lalime as well. Lalime's got a history of good performances (over seasons)... Savvy's a smart coach. I think what I love is he's not so stubborn to stick with the high-paid guy. It is nice to see the Hawks rebounding... this is most definitely something the team has lacked in the past. I imagine if Marty weren't injured half the time and we hadn't lost so many important skaters we'd still be right in the thick of things. Aside from a Kane or Toews career ender (knocks on wood) nothing can really turn this into a bad season... enough has happened for me already. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 10:26 PM) Yes -- the guy who just came back from the suspension says I need to grow up. Right. Dude, seriously, you must be an immature teenager to be making statements like this. That unrelated suspension is completely irrelevent and the fact that you know about, remember it for 2 months after it happened, and care to bring it up shows you need to get a life outside this board. Live, be wild, you've got a lot of fun things you could be doing. Hell, when I was your age I was out having a blast on a Friday night, not home getting into Internet slugfests. (Note, I myself, am only 24 but try to stay in one night each weekend bc, you know, I have a phat ass mortage payment to worry about. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 10:34 PM) Have you seen what he's done in this thread? Have you seen the stuff he does in other threads? I'm satan. Seriously, all I did in this thread was state to deal Khabibulin bc Lalime can hold his own. I didn't personally attack you as you have done me, I don't know why you flipped your lid tonight, nor do I really care. As of this post you are dead to me. AND that's the last time I respond to anything you ever have to say. I too apologize, to the masses, for this thread being off-topic. I just had to defend myself and reading back it's quite obvious whom the instigators are who cannot understand that people might not agree with them.
