QUOTE(spiderman @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) Did they ask him if he was on HGH/Steriods during his 35 HR season before getting off last season (down to 22 HR) ??? They asked him what was up with it. He said that he wasn't getting good pitches on 2-0 counts like he always had, and he would work hard and try to learn from Thome, Konerko, and Dye how they stay consistent in their power numbers. This basically is in direct reference to the horrible lineup in Oakland and how there was no protection so there was no incentive for the other team to give him ANYTHING to hit.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 03:32 PM) Why the hell do people care? She's not worth being in the news at all. Get over it America. What the hell is with the infatuation with celebrities? Especially when their lives are crumbling? It's sick. You cared enough to click on the thread...

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) Rogers was pretty solid last year upon returning. I don't know why that would change because he's gone from 42 to 43; it's not like his body is going to go from outstanding shape to garbage in a split second. At this point in time, he is who he is until his arm literally falls off of his body, and age seems pretty irrelevent. Your argument lost a lot of steam with this one. Rogers' injury last year can easily be blamed on him being old, and he could easily suffer many injuries this year... counting on him now is pretty iffy. Oh, and D-Train sucked balls in a horrible league in a horrible pitchers park. If playing for millions upon millions upon millions of dollars isn't enough for him, then I don't know what other motivation he needs. He burst onto the scene as a kid for a team that went on to win the World Series, and he's been living on that hype ever since. His park adjusted era in the NL is a whopping 4.17. Now, the park doesn't hurt him in Detroit, but I think that's a pretty good indication of the type of pitcher he can only HOPE of being considering the move to the AL Central. D-Train's just not THAT good. However, he's a good #4 or 5, so you're right about that part. The Rogers part hurts you though. -
He's back.

He's "really excited and he loves to be coming to a team that wants to win." Doesn't know why his power was down, he was getting more walks than ever, but he wasn't getting a 2-0 fastball down the middle like he used to... he said he can't wait to learn from Paul Konerko, Jim Thome, and Jermaine Dye to see what they've done to stay consistent. Then the cell phone cut out. Nick Swisher is my favorite White Sox already. Sorry Mark.

He's "hittin' the treadmill to get ready for centerfield to get the cardio and the legs going underneath."

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 02:26 AM) IIRC, didn't Peavy have some arm issues in the past? I think the type of guys I'd be banking on are the Joba Chamberlains of the world. I also love the hell out of Phillip Hughes mechanics (who knew he'd pull his hammy though). I love big pitchers who get a lot of there velocity from leg strength. I hear this Mark Prior guy has a perfect delivery and will never get injured. Seriously, you just never know.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 01:10 PM) Yeah, but Tupac released stuff after he died, too. Shoot, there was a sweet song on the Nirvana box set that came out a coupla years ago that was new too...

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 01:22 PM) So, how about your lineups in a perfect world-in a world where the players perform as well as they can. Heres mine. 1. Richar 2B 2. Ocab SS 3. thome DH 4. Kong 1B 5. Dye RF 6. Swish CF 7. Fields 3B 8. AJp C 9. Quentin LF Having Swisher hitting 6th distinctively kills everything he's good at, use his OBP near the top of the order... cabrera/swisher/thome in a row is awesome... if Richar hits like a beast and can actually lead off, which won't happen, you hit O-Cab 2, Swish 3, Thome 4, Dye 5, Paulie 6... -
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) Take it easy with that. I don't think we should be anointing Swisher just yet. He's still got some work to do before even becoming an all-star caliber player. Where did I say he was an All-Star? He could easily have an All-Star season, but all i asked is, which is better for building a team, Josh Fields + Nick Swisher + John Danks or just Miguel Cabrera? I think the answer is fairly obvious.

This interview needs to happen right now... I can't handle Murph for much longer.

What's not to like with this trade? Saying DLS and Gio were our top two prospects was like saying they finished 1-2 in the Special Olympics. That statement holds no weight because of just how bad our farm system is... Kenny was cleaning house for a clean start and while doing so got a 27 year old switch hitter just waiting to get out of Oakland. Going from the best pitchers park in the AL to the best hitters park is going to make a huge difference in Swisher's value. DLS is 3 years away from contributing and will more than likely wind up in the bullpen, Gio has been traded three times and obviously is more valuable to franchises used as bait, and Sweeney was never getting another shot. What you get is a high OBP guy like Swisher who will easily hit .280 in the Cell with high power numbers (rotoworld already projects 35-40 HRs) who is locked up to an economically sound contract for another 4 years. THEN you get to his attitude and marketability. This is a steal. Folks b****ed when Kenny didn't get Miguel Cabrera for those three prospects + Danks and Fields. Which is better? Cabrera or Swisher, Fields, Danks? This is a PHENOMENAL TRADE. Kenny stole one, and only White Sox fans would b**** after getting a young stud just entering his prime who has position versatility as well. I however, am an enlightened White Sox fan.

Josh Fields in the minor leagues would be a travesty for this organization. He's one of the bright spots to look forward to in 2008 and proved last year he's ready for the Majors. That can't and won't happen.

Phil Rogers: Sox's future takes another hit

QUOTE(beautox @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 09:14 AM) Lastly Jose was one of the most dominate pitchers for a very long stretch of time in '06 until he hurt his back, near the end of '07 he looked to have put it all together. You really can't ignore that his emergence probably had a lot to do with El Duque. Perhaps having another fellow countreyman on the team will help bolster his attitude and his performance in Ramirez. Jose was still hitting 95 on the radar last year, so the stuff is still there. We all know he's a headcase, so perhaps in a better mental spot with his divorce further in the rear-view mirror and a player he can relate to on the roster Jose can bounce back and be somewhat closer to the Cy Young candidate he was in the second-half of 2005. -

QUOTE(max power @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 09:17 AM) lol, I know you are kidding but I honestly believe we will finish the year with a better record than detroit. Their rotation is the most questionable in the AL central. I need to smoke whatever it is you are smoking with that statement. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) So biggest winners and losers in both parties from tonight's result? Well, biggest loser is Guiliani who can stop kidding himself now.

Phil Rogers: Sox's future takes another hit
Steve9347 replied to spiderman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Swisher is going to prove he's ELITE this year. our two best prospects are just that OUR two best. Would I trade Minnesota's two best, or Florida's two best? probably not... there's a lot of unearned weight to that statement. the white sox have the worst farm system in baseball... trading questionable minor league talent, including DLS who is 3 years away from the MLB bullpen, Sweeney who wasn't getting another shot, and a guy traded more than Kenny Lofton (Gio)... for a player with Swisher's type of elite upside, its a no-brainer. As much as Phil Rogers wants to say he's enamored off of a one-inning appearance by DLS in the Future's Game and what he saw out of Gio 1.5 years ago when he was in the Phillies Spring Training (and heading into his FIRST season in AA) I don't put any stock into what he says. -

Konerko and Crede for Santana, Shields, Figgins, and a prospect or two makes too much sense

Which would you prefer? Miguel Cabrera or Josh Fields, Nick Swisher, John Danks More than likely the package headed to FLA for Cabrera would have involed the three we just traded, along with Fields and possibly John Danks. For everyone so pissed we "missed out" on Cabrera, we got Swisher for so much less so you should be elated. -
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:51 PM) Being the #1 prospect in the White Sox system is a lot like being the best athlete in the special olympics.
