QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:20 PM) Here is my .02 KW won this trade and won this trade in a landslide, my reason? Let's imagine for a minute that this trade happened on January 3, 2007 and not 2008. Would the A's of made this trade? Absolutely not. Swisher was coming off of a huge year and Gio was traded for Freddy. Now the big question is whether or not Swishers big year was an anomaly. I say no. Some more thoughts: -In essence, we capitalized off of Swisher having a down year to get him cheap. Yes, I said cheap. -Not only that, but we traded DLS at arguably "peak" value. -We get a young player with much more certainty of future success, whereas the others have no guarantee of anything -Highly rated prospects only help teams in two ways: 1. trading for another proven player or 2. turning out to be productive players. Having highly rated prospects sitting in our system does not have value in itself. -Get over the fact that our farm system sucks, it can always be replenished. -NOBODY knows how DLS will turn out, not KW not BB not DLS himself. Thinking he is a sure thing is foolish. My prediction? Swisher has a great year, Gio has a solid year and DLS has a good but not great year. A year from now, this will look like a lopsided trade in the Sox's favor. Sorry for the rambling post!! I agree with everything in this post. Swisher immediately becomes the most valuable offensive player on the team, is only 27, and a prolific switch-hitter who was playing in a pitcher's park. This move oozes of selling high on iffy prospects and buying low on a true, entering his prime, All-Star talent. I absolutely love this trade. -

QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) Who's your leadoff hitter then? Richar? Cabrera's not a leadoff guy, Swisher's not either. I chose Ramirez because of his speed. Well s***, let's just stick Carl Lewis out there, he's fast too... My dream would be for Swisher to hit 2nd, he'd kill there... that means Cabrera hits 1, unfortunately. -

QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:00 PM) 1. Ramirez, 2B 2. Cabrera, SS 3. Thome, DH 4. Konerko, 1B 5. Dye, RF 6. Swisher, CF 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Fields, 3B 9. Quentin, LF more likely. Only way Ramirez leads off is if its in AAA. -
I love this trade. Three iffy prospects for a guy who will be a bonafide, swith-hitting stud.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) Nah. Trust me, if we could land Bedard some how, I'd flip flop on this trade about as fast as anyone. Getting a guy like Bedard would make us legit contenders imo. Fields + Danks for Bedard? I'm not one for trade ideas and bulls*** like that, but Crede plays 3B for us and Baltimore gets to your ML-ready players with huge upside for Bedard. How does that no get done? -

Swish is a 27 year old who knows how to take a walk, hits for power from both sides of the plate... and is only going to get that much better in the Cell. This is beautiful. -

Just because they are 3 of our top prospects, that doesn't mean they are good... what are you people talking about!?!? Everyone here had given up on Ryan Sweeney, now he's a prospect that it hurts to trade? DLS is a bullpen bound player who won't arrive for 3 seasons, and Gio we all knew was trade-bait. Swisher will be a monster in the Cell. -

Wow, I think Swisher is going to be our CF... I believe Orlando Cabrera may be our leadoff hitter this year. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) I know when he was in the minors a lot of people thought he'd play center. That said, he's a bigger guy so I don't think he'd have the range for CF. Quentin would be more likely to play CF, imo. This move gives the Sox a huge OBP guy to have near the top of the order and gets them another young position player (although they obviously gave up a couple of there finest prospects). My question is does this make the Sox consider moving one of there veteran bats. How do they not? Swisher fits in the 3-4-5 somewhere, and they have Dye-Thome-Konerko there... I think Pauly has a foot out the door now and hopefully we see him on the Angels for a good return soon. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) DLS gone? Gah. f***. this. DLS is at least three years away, who cares... Gio's the biggest piece here and Nick Swisher is going to CRUSH in the Cell... the smaller foul territory will = a 20 point increase in batting average alone. -

Swish hit .262 but with a .381 OBP last year, 22 dongs, 78 RBI, 36 2B. Sounds like just Sweeney and Gio. -

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) Gio gone, Sweeney gone more details to follow Good info, I'll post more as I find it... ummm we have a lot of OF now... but still no CF? -
just heard on 670, more details to follow. Kenny Williams on Swisher “Nick is a quality switch hitter who consistently gets on base, hits for power and drives in runs,” Williams said. “He gives Ozzie Guillen offensive flexibility with his ability to hit in a number of spots up and down the batting order, and his athleticism allows him to play any outfield position or first base. Nick brings to the ballpark a mix of hard-nosed play, energy and a commitment to winning, and he brings it each and every day. He’s a great addition to our team and clubhouse.”

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 12:05 PM) That's all fine and well, but "collusion" is serious business. If the Colts are doing it out of their own concern for their terrible backup QB's health, that's one thing -- but if they're doing it with Jeff Fisher on the line, well, there's something wrong. This is true. Who gives a s*** if the Colts bench their starters... they earned that right. Who cares if they just want to go home and have no intention of calling a timeout? They earned that right too. They did not earn the right to give Fisher a call and have the information relayed effect the play that's called on the other end. That's cheating.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 05:05 PM) Got College Hoops 2K8. Whenever I have a transition lay up chance, I end up shooting from 5 feet and can't get my guys to do lay ups. My big guys dunk but I can't get anyone to do a lay up. Ends up a jumper from 5 feet. If its anything like NBA 2k8, just hold your directional joystick toward the basket and then use the shotstick hitting up and you'll layup or dunk. These games take an adjustment period but you'll figure it out and soon after adore them.
