QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) There's a thread on WSI. Some guy in Boston radio claims its in place just waiting on the Santana situation to evolve. f***. that could be a month or two.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 12:59 PM) Supposedly 3 Sox minor leaguers with Shelby being one of them. Do you have a link? I am one of the few who would really like to see some Coco on this team, and the idea of getting Bowden makes me a little excited too... More info please!

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 12:56 PM) What's the rumored deal? That's what I was thinking? If we got Bowden along with Crisp... to state the obvious that would be good. I'm thinking that if we got him that would mean that we traded Cabrera back to Boston for a Crisp/Bowden package... maybe even Cabrera/MacDougal for Crisp/Bowden and then Uribe = starter? Just speculation, anyone with the actual rumor hit us up.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 10:54 PM) Wow, wish granted. Mags OUT, Barker IN, according CBH.com! I just heard on the radio. This is very awesome... I hope he can fulfill some of that potential. -
And the turning every topic into a Roberts/Bedard discussion continues. It's not going to happen, why can't people let this go?

QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 08:31 AM) I would have no problem with the Sox giving the guy a two year deal, but Prior will probably get a 3 year offer from someone and at a $$ amount the Sox will not and probably should not match Why is no one reading the top post? HE DOESN'T WANT A MULTIYEAR DEAL! Regardles... if we got one of Prior, Garcia, Colon... that'd be interesting.

Eager has a point in his first game... Patrick Sharp continues to surprise me. He's been great this year, another shorty. If you would have told me that on December 19 Sharp would be on a 40 goal pace, I'd have said you were nuts. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 08:25 PM) Buehrle for Hamilton, Votto, and Cueto....count me in! That would be Heaven.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Dec 18, 2007 -> 10:55 PM) So then why is it okay to doctor a ball? That gives a pretty clear advantage over their competition and history books. If its about cheating, then end cheating in baseball. But thats not what this is about, this is about finding a few scapegoats so that everyone can go home feeling warm and fuzzy that they did something. Meanwhile, no one really focuses on trying to PREVENT FUTURE CHEATING. If they care so much, then ban a player after one offense. I promise no one will be trying to beat the system if they face a possible ban. But no one really wants to end it like the Olympics do, they just want to pretend that they are doing something. It's impossible to stay ahead of the curve to prevent cheating in baseball. Why don't you cure AIDS while you're at it?

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Dec 18, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) http://flyers.nhl.com/ Hawks trade Vandy for Eager......who the hell is Eager?? Oh thats right he's a goon.... I sure as hell this isn't that big move... Flyers Acquire Jim Vandermeer from Chicago Philadelphia Flyers Dec 18, 2007, 10:32 PM EST The Philadelphia Flyers today announced that they have acquired 6’1”, 210-pound defenseman Jim Vandermeer from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for left wing Ben Eager, according to club General Manager Paul Holmgren. Vandermeer, 27, recorded two goals and seven assists for nine points and 44 penalty minutes in 26 games for the Blackhawks this season. He was second on the team in penalty minutes. "Well first of all it strengthens our defense," said Holmgren. "Jimmy is a guy who kind of grew up in our system. Was traded him away a few years ago for Alex Zhamnov, when we really tried to make a Stanley Cup run in 2003-04. We feel that he brings a lot of experience, and he’s been a real good player." Jim Vandermeer has two goals and seven assists for nine points and 44 penalty minutes for Chicago this season. (Getty Images) In 218 career NHL games over the last five seasons with the Flyers and the Blackhawks (2002-03 to 2007-08), Vandermeer has registered 16 goals and 44 assists for 60 points and 323 penalty minutes. He played parts of two seasons with the Flyers (2002-03 and 2003-04), posting eight points (5G,3A) and 52 penalty minutes in 47 games. He was traded by the Flyers, along with the rights to Colin Fraser and Los Angeles’ second round pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, to Chicago in exchange for Alex Zhamnov and Washington’s fourth round pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft on February 19, 2004. He was originally signed by the Flyers as a free agent on December 21, 2000. Eager, 23, was scoreless with 62 penalty minutes in 23 games for the Flyers this season. His 62 penalty minutes were third on the team. Over parts of three NHL seasons with the Flyers (2005-06 to 2007-08), Eager registered nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points and 313 penalty minutes in 111 regular season games. He was acquired by the Flyers, along with Sean Burke and Branko Radivojevic, from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for Mike Comrie on February 9, 2004. He was originally drafted by Phoenix in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. I believe this IS the big move. A "25-27 year old" leftwing. Exactly what DT eluded to. However, He was taken 23rd overall, so he must have some untapped potential and perhaps was asked to fill the goon roll. He definitely filled up the stat sheet when he played for Oshawa, to the tune of nearly a point per contest in his final season in the OHL. However, since in the AHL and NHL, he's been rather unimpressive. I think I'd rather have Vandy. Regardless, I presume it will be funny to say that he "Ben Eager to kick some ass all night." -
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Dec 18, 2007 -> 09:48 PM) So should players who dip be suspended? That can kill you. What about players that smoke, that is much more likely to harm some one else than "roid rage"? The comment "Just because other people do something or did something doesnt mean its okay", yes thats true. But there is a reason why precedent means something, its because it sets a standard. Now if they want to over turn precedent, if they want to remove players from the hall, than so be it. But otherwise its pretty much a joke. Oh and I agree with you Pratt, but Ive been on this argument for years now. However, "dipping" and getting into fights in bars does not alter one's performance and give them a physical edge over their competition and the history books.

QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Dec 18, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) I appreciate your response on this, but I do think that as penance for dealing with 180, Soxtalk should make a donation of at least a portion of the funds it got from that banner ad to an anti-spyware software company like Super AntiSpyware or Spybot, etc. Think of it as buying some karma. I spent 12-16 hours this weekend on this, and other people probably did, too. I completely disagree. These guys work their asses off for this site. That ad was not placed with any malice or ill-will. Once notified they took care of the issue promptly. -

QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 18, 2007 -> 08:02 AM) From what I was reading the problems are at *their* site, not from the ads. You shouldn't have a problem from the ad being displayed. Until Jas can get to it, if you are not clicking on the ad, you should not be infected. Or if you use a Mac. -
I would have just called Bigbie a liar. This was the lamest admission ever.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 17, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) There's always someone on this site discrediting good players. WHere have you been lately? Edmonds is woeful these days, always hurt, has lost a step in the OF, strikes out more than I would, and Petco's not going to do anything to help that, and neither is turning 38. Take a gander at his last two seasons and his rapidly declining OPS and GP and get back to me about how "good" he is... This was a dumb move by San Diego.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 17, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) The Bears and White Sox are going to be garbage for several years now, and the Bulls are not far behind. It's pretty sad really. In the NFL, teams turn things around all the time. We've still got a great defensive nucleus that's relatively young (Anderson, Harris, Tillman, Vasher, Briggs... if he's back) and great roll players. Sure, there's work to be done, but the Bears can get good again quickly. The Bulls are still just one player away from being a top team in the East. If Pax ever answers the need of an inside scorer, they will be lethal. As for the Sox... that's another story entirely.

QUOTE(LukeGofannon @ Dec 17, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) Freese is a 24 y/o corner infielder who can't slug .500 in AA, this deal sucks. Getting anyone to take any part of Jim Edmonds' contract is a win for the Cards. He's awful. He should be even worse in Petco.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 17, 2007 -> 02:08 PM) I think it rather humorous to suggest that Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa weren't "in the best interests of the game". The owners' wallets, fans, Bud Selig etc. etc. would all disagree. And it's a little awkward to suggest that X players should be kept out of the Hall of Fame when they were never disciplined for baseball, let alone banned. I'm not going to tell Ty Cobb to get out of the Hall of Fame. I'm not interested in telling Gaylord Perry to pack his things and go and take Don Sutton with him. I'm not going to go down that road. I do not have the same view of history or the Hall of Fame as you; I think time has shown that the HOF is for the best players in the history of baseball who are not banned from baseball. You disagree? Well, we'll see what happens. McGwire and Sosa's race in '98 greatly enhanced the scope of Major League Baseball throughout the world. Before that, fans were still reeling because of the strike. I believe the next year the Cubs opened the season in Japan bc of Sammy Sosa. To say that those two hurt the game of baseball I think is misleading. There wasn't a person in the states who wasn't captivated by that race. McGwire and Sosa's "stomach punch" celebration... It sucks that that's now tainted, but come on... just looking at Big Mac, anyone with half a brain knew he had juice coming out of his eyeballs. With the body of Kevin Nash and the HR ability of... Mark McGwire. No one had a problem with it then, but now he's banished bc of it. I think that's a joke.
