  1. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) I personally wouldn't give him a max deal anyways, though someone clearly will. He takes so many shots and hits at such a low percentage that he shoots your team out of about as many games as he wins you. He really seems to fit as the next Iverson or Marbury, a guy that puts up great numbers that doesn't really get you anywhere because he doesn't make the rest of the team any better and is disinterested on defense. I already stated over on TalkBulls that I think Washington is better without Gilbert in their lineup. Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison have played much better (especially Butler) without him in the lineup. Gilbert will get a max deal, and I'll laugh at the team that gives it to him.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 11:54 AM) I'm not so sure how eager Orioles organization is to acquire another Patterson. I'd have to say considering what they gave up the first time around worked out alright.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) Yeah, I don't think it's speculating that a lot of people believe Tejada is one of the prime candidates to show up on the Mitchell Report. Maybe Baltimore got rid of him before he lost even more value. That makes sense, but Houston got the same Mitchell Report Baltimore did... (unless Baltimore didn't read it and none of the teams have, only Selig and his boys?)
  4. More importantly, does this open up a possiblity of Juan Uribe to the Orioles? I want no return, I just want him gone.
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 11:46 AM) I would say that I am less than impressed by the package they received. 24 year old 3rd baseman hitting .270 in the minors with an OPS around 850, 22 year old pitcher who probably is the most talented player in this package, soon to be 25 year old who put up a 1.60 WHIP and a 5.86 ERA in his rookie season in the NL Central last year, and a pitcher just breaking into the big leagues who'll be 27 around opening day next year, on top of Scott. Seems like the Orioles are just going for sheer numbers and not caring about actual skill. Well, having just read the Mitchell Report with other baseball executives, I'm sure the Orioles were more concerned about Miggy's roiding than the Astros. That just seems to me the most obvious reason for this trade. Personally, I don't see why the Astros would have interest regardless, but that's an odd organization down there.
  6. QUOTE(lostfan @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) Tigers, and I don't really think it's close. That lineup is just disgusting. Yeah, once you see the players actually in the lineup, it really becomes obvious.
  7. QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) All I have to say is I hope the Tigers have a lot of injuries. Jacque Jones isn't projected in LF? This was my projection. I think Jacque will split time with Thames. Considering they have plenty of power, would YOU start Jones?
  8. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) I dunno, the more I think about it... Pudge is on his last legs, Maggs will never repeat what just happened, Carlos Guillen is one year older, Gary Sheffield can't keep hitting... they have Jacque Jones in their lineup. Once you get past the "ooo and ahhh" of the Detroit lineup, I still take Cleveland's over them anyday. OK, after taking the time to make this post... Tribe vs. Tiggs lineup projections I retract that statement... the Tigers are sick this year.
  9. There has been a lot of talk about this, so I thought projecting the lineups might give folks a more concrete semblance of what to expect. Please, do discuss. Cleveland projected CF Grady Sizemore SS Jhonny Peralta DH Travis Hafner C Victor Martinez 1B Ryan Garko 3B Casey Blake LF Jason Michaels RF Franklin Gutierrez 2B Asdrubal Cabrera Detroit projected CF Curtis Granderson SS Edgar Renteria 3B Miguel Cabrera RF Magglio Ordonez DH Gary Sheffield 1B Carlos Guillen C Ivan Rodriguez 2B Placido Polanco LF Marcus Thames
  10. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 12:13 AM) No matter how "sexy" that Detroit lineup is - and it is very possibly the "sexiest" lineup of any in baseball I dunno, the more I think about it...
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) No, not happy at all. Cubs get better, and Sox lose out on another target. The reason that I knew he was signing with the Cubs is that the Cubs hired a handful of Japanese workers in the last few weeks to help with the transition. The Fuku/Cubs thing has been a lock for quite a while. Whatever he signed for, I bet it's more than makes sense for a guy who's never taken a Major League at bat.
  12. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 07:53 PM) Considering his career average is .293, it's a risk worth listening to. Look at it this way, we have Cabrera for one year--and at a pretty hefty price in Jon Garland. A second in the order hitter doesn't quite give you full value unless you put a good lead-off hitter in front of him. We saw that with Iguchi and Podsednik. Crede most likely isn't going to be back next season, and if KW is in this "going for it all" mentality, why not pick up Figgins even if you have to overpay? If it doesn't work out, you ship out the Konerko's, Thome's and Cabrera's at the break and probably land a few pieces back that are better than Broadway and Egbert. I mean, are Broadway and Egbert really so good that we have to forfeit a legitimate lead-off hitter? Hey look, a voice of reason that's not blinded by crappy sox prospect arms and the Great Richar.
  13. The Sox offering Crede arbitration is a definite.
  14. QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 06:14 PM) Why was the reaction on here a joke? Detroit has one of the most fearsome lineups on paper in a long time. You say we aren't going to win next year anyway? Uh ... it was KW's job to tinker and make sure we do win. Any team with Thome, Konerko, Dye, Mark B and Vasquez with Bob Jenks has a nucleus. These are veteran players. Why shouldn't we expect our GM to do his job?? The reaction on here was fine. He did do his job. He made his best offer. Kenny's done plenty to earn a bad rep around here lately, but that trade was not it... it's like that trade single-handedly meant the White Sox were going to suck in 2008. Guess what, it was happening with or without Cabrera.
  15. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) Pretty sure Bedard and Tejada will both get moved to the Dodgers, possibly tonight or tomorrow sometime. Where'd you hear this?
  16. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) I wouldn't bet on anyone's roster moves based on whether or not there happen to be rumors around regarding a certain move. That's a tough sentence to wrap your mind around.
  17. QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 01:27 PM) The latest I've heard is that Crisp isn't going to Minne. They decided on Ellsbury, Lowrie, Masterson and another prospect if they go Boston's route. Mitchell report is due out Thursday I believe. Exactly, which means that the Red Sox would keep Coco Crisp. Regardless, if the Red Sox deal for Johan they won't be trading Crisp.
  18. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 12:09 PM) yikes - CLE and DET are going to be good for the next few years. this yet again makes me very happy that when they had the chance, the sox stepped up and won it all. Honestly, I nominate this for post of the year. We all seem to forget rather quickly that the Sox won it all just two seasons ago. We all wanted the dynasty, but I'll take the championship first and foremost.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 01:18 PM) I really don't think anything the Sox would be doing would be predicated on a Johan deal. Except the whole Coco Crisp thing which is delaying our acquisition of a CF and/or a leadoff man. The two spots we need to fill the most. Good point on the Mitchell Report though, shouldn't that be out already... what's going on!?
  20. QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 12:47 PM) How is this idea to get a CF? Trade Fields and Owens for Cameron Maybin... Maybe we can get them to throw in Miller too? Come on, get serious!
  21. QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 01:12 PM) True. I haven't heard them in on any SP's. One thing though is we have other needs to address. Be it OF, dealing Crede or Fields, Uribe and/or the plans to move extra bullpen arms. There are still things that need to happen. If there is a target we set our sights on while trying to deal those guys and it requires more on our end, like an arm, I don't think the rotation is set in stone and 4 of those 6 guys would be trading chips. KW hasn't been rumored to be doing much but I think they are waiting til after the New Year and will go from there. Clearly his plans have been blown up. Fukudome is waaaaay out of our comfort price/year range for a guy like him. I truly think he knows Rowand would be a mistake so they are probably trying to figure out what to do during this period between the meetings and holidays. Outside of that. I wouldn't be shocked at all if our rotation was different come ST. I wouldn't be shocked if this team doesn't change one bit either. I would be shocked if we won 75 games or had a firesale though. I think once a Johan deal goes down the rest of the league will get more active.
  22. Just an FYI, the Sox have not been linked to nor have shown any interest in... a. Erik Bedard b. Dan Haren c. altering their starting pitching in any way heading into 2008. Buehrle Vazquez Contreras Danks Floyd/Gonzalez is already our set rotation.
  23. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) I know the fight for 4th place was important, but come on. BUT WE WON THE FIGHT!
  24. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 10:55 AM) I could, and have been saying the exact same thing about a guy that this page seems to overwhelmingly want to give 4/$55 to. I think the only thing that was brought up was a 3/37.5 deal in hopes that his demands have dropped due to less interest. If I'm wrong, feel free to quote the post that said otherwise. As for Egbert throwing 200 innings in 2009, I'll believe it when I see it. I do love how you represent this as fact, Wite.
  25. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 09:37 AM) Skynet is not a problem. haha, i thought the same thing.
