QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) I agree with you, but I wouldnt call Al Jefferson a GREAT replacement. He will be a good player, but will never be a star player. We are giving the Lakers 2 top draft picks in Thomas and Noah, and Ben Gordon who is already a prolific scorer. I would say its somewhat on par. Of course Kobe is alot younger than KG I highly disagree on Al Jefferson. He averaged 16 ppg, 11 rpg, and 1.5 bpg in his first season as a starter. I can definintely see those numbers going up to 25/15/2 this year as the sole offensive God of Minnesota. He's absolutely awesome. And he's only 22!

I actually think that if they wanted the Sox could get Betemit in a Crede deal rather easily. If the Yankees are showing interest, that's great. They need a 3B, but they are set at SS and 2B and Betemit holds little value with them. Throw in some turd from AAA along with Joe and get Betemit and be done with it... I don't think the Yanks would worry too much about dealing Betemit.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) Well if they have to trade him it won't be to the Bulls as Paxson as put the speculation to rest. Dude, did you even HEAR the interview. His comments make me no less inspired that the Bulls will get Kobe. He didn't say "we're not trading for Kobe" he said "we're kinda not doing anything at the moment." You can read that however you want, but it was not convincing nor should it end these conversations. I guarantee they are still discussing a deal. Whether it gets done remains to be seen, but they are still talking.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) I understand the logic, but based on the previous deals for superstars and what they landed for them, I think that the return isnt going to be everything the lakers want. But they need to cut payroll and bring in young talent and possibly additional draft picks. Kobe is more on the level of KG than he is on the level of AI. AI went for tablescraps... we know this. He also was not playing with the team and didn't play for 10 days. Kobe is willing to go out there and play, as was KG. The haul that the T-Wolves got for KG was quite good, including a great replacement in Al Jefferson whom they just signed to a 5 year extension. Now, that being said, the Bulls aren't offering garbage. A deal of Kirk, Tyrus, and Noah (or obviously one of the others that has been rumored sans the Ben Wallace one) are a decent haul for a team in such turmoil. However, the Lakers don't HAVE to trade Kobe, but it sure looks like they want to.

QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) I interned in the sports industry this past summer, don't really plan on going back. The incredibly low pay and horrible hours were just awful. I'm looking at regular 9-5 jobs now. I too interned in sports in early 2006, and was happy to get it on my resume to get my 9-5. Those hours suck.

Dan Bernstein is talking about this right now. I'll try to keep up. He still says "Kobe Bryant to become a Bull" by tomorrow afternoon still a 90% possibility. He says Kobe is in charge of this. Deals are talked about that are put in front of Kobe and he has rejected them all... they have already agreed on deals and Kobe has turned them down. The player mentioned the most by "people who know what's going on" is Kirk Hinrich. Kirk is young, desirable, defends, and under contract for a reasonable amount. Kobe knows that Kirk dominates the ball, moreso than any other Bull (amount of time on shotclock with ball in hands, not necessarily shots). The Deng stuff is purely Bryant. The Bulls are more than willing to deal Deng but Bryant refuses to move without Deng staying in Chicago. All names are on the table. Kobe wants to be a Bull, Bulls want Kobe, Kobe wants to be a Bull entirely on his own terms. There are a lot of people who want this deal to get done, but its incredibly complicated involving a 3rd team. A deal proposed yesterday would have involved a player going to the Lakers who was then sent to the Cavaliers (Bibby to the Cavs). Paxson stayed home yesterday to work on this deal, but the game actually being played delayed negotiations. Until John Paxson says this thing is over, it is very active right now. This is from Bernstein, who has very reliable connections with the Bulls.

Working in sports... you'll either love it or hate it. The hours are long, but if you have little responsibility outside of that duty you will enjoy it. Those positions seem more related to game-time duty, so you wouldn't be there all day. The sports reporter position can expect to be at the Cell till 2 in the morning on most gamenights putting together copy after interviewing players postgame. (or rather, holding a recording device just close enough to get the same quotes everyone else is going to print in the morning.) Seriously, though, if you have little responsibility, this is a great foot in the door and a free ticket to 81 home games.

Hawks win. Tonight was f***ing beautiful. Kane is scoring at a faster pace than Sid the Kid, and Melrose (I know, take it for what it's worth) said that Kane is as good as Crosby if not better, and that he's going to score "110-120 points a year" for a long time. MANNNNNN, Kane is the shiiiiiit (and I was all about Kaner before we even drafted him)... Toews is great, Kane is God... and Blackhawks hockey is back! Hallelujah, holy s***, where's the Tylenol? -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 12:02 AM) Durant's going to be a very good player but I can see a lot of these type of games this season from him. Damien Wilkins (Dominique's nephew) was magical this evening... I really like that Seattle team actually, and think they will be very sick in 2008-09 and they will get the 8 seed this year.

this is getting freaking out of hand. kobe is now rejecting deals to the bulls that pax and buss have agreed on. insanity. although his rejecting them is helping us out because he wants the bulls to dominate.
-
QUOTE(longshot7 @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 03:19 PM) Trade either Gordon or Hinrich - but both? I trust Paxson better than me to make this trade. Now, to important things - what # does Kobe wear? used to wear 8, now 24. you know, 1 better than 23.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 03:06 PM) i didnt hear the initial report, but from the sounds of it, it didnt really sound like he thought this was 90% to go through he said those exact words multiple times.

QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 02:27 PM) If Captain Kirk goes, and Gordon... who plays the point? Duhon? YUCK. I want Kobe on the Bulls... but I want to keep Kirk and Deng. hahaha. you dont even hesitate when they ask for Kirk in a deal. you laugh. Can a mod change the thread title to Dan Bernstein: Kobe to Bulls 90% done?
-
Take it for what it's worth, but Dan Bernstein just said that he got information that said that a deal of the following is 90% to get done within the next 48-72 hours. Lakers get Ron Artest Kings get Kirk Bulls get Kobe other pieces will move, supposedly, and gordon might be out the door... but this is what he just broke with. You have to fit the other pieces where they may fall... I don't see why Ron Artest is what the Lakers would want, but he seems REALLY REALLY certain this is how its going to happen. You would assume Tyrus and picks would also go to the Lakers.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 12:09 PM) So that's a guarantee? Are you serious? Why risk it? How does that help the club to sign a guy whos out the first month who's over the hill and a risk to get suspended again?
-
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 10:33 AM) Marvin is ready to breakout this year at 21 years old. He was at 13 ppg and 5 rpg last year, and should up those to closer to 17-18 ppg and 7 rpg. He was great in preseason, game has matured. Perhaps, but with the other 80 first round picks they've taken including the recently drafted Al Horford, he'll struggle to get as many looks as you are hoping for... If Horford comes on, the shots are going to go to Johnson, Smith, Horford before the disappointing Marvin Williams.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 01:06 PM) Thx man. I told her I would not have changed the way I dressed until they came up with solid, specific details as to how my attire was innapropriate. Then you kind of force their hand to take action and THEN you might have a case against them. She's not the type to rock the boat though, she'll probably just find a new job. Yeah... that's just embarassing for her to have to even go through it though.

I'd be very happy to land Furcal. He answers our two most blatant questions of SS and leadoff. -
QUOTE(mreye @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 10:44 AM) Why is there not a "Never" choice? I think that falls under the "Does Not Apply" answer... because you don't do it.

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 07:40 PM) Did I miss the memo that Favre is retiring? Holy s***, the lovefest for him tonight is pathetic. Yeah, no s***. I'd be surprised if he doesn't play the next two seasons after this one. Guy's still got a ton of gun in that arm.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 02:01 AM) Yeah -- my bad if I was overly harsh in my post as well. Apparently I took my rough day of classes out on you there a bit. but got your point across. the few hawks fans that have hung around need to stick together, lol. -
That was quick. I expect the Dodgers to now be HUGE players in the A-Rod sweepstakes.
