Predict where A-Rod will be playing in 2008
Steve9347 replied to gosox41's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 07:37 AM) I think it will be interesting if NY stays true to their stance "We will not negotiate with A-Rod if he opts out". It definitely takes some of the bargaining and leverage out of the picture if the Yankees arent there for Boras to lean on while squeezing pennies out of owners With the changeover in ownership, the loss of Torre... I think the Steinbrenner boys are here to put a mark on the franchise as being smart and not just an overspender. A-Rod just might walk... but I hope that's not to the Southside of Chicago, unless I'm forgetting a team A-Rod actually took to the World Series much less won it with. -
Trading Fields and/or Danks for a star
Steve9347 replied to NCsoxfan's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 11:40 AM) I agree with the initial part. Fields can perform on a wide range of spectrums and I won't be surprised one bit. He could quite honestly put up Ryan Howard's exact line this year - minus about 30 walks - or he could hit about .210 next year and neither would surprise me in the least. All I was merely trying to point out is that Carl Crawford is extremely overrated around here. People act as if he is some savior player, but there's a reason the Devil Rays haven't won even with him on the team all this time, and that's because he's not much more than a very good player (ie, he's not a star in the league other than with his name). Trading Josh Fields for anyone but an impact player at this point is silly. And I don't think anything stranger than Gavin Floyd winning the Cy Young next year has ever happened in the history of the world. I mean like seriously. Other than if Josh Fields were to put up Ryan Howard type numbers... -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 11:00 AM) talkbulls.com yes, i have many posts over there. i believe this is a sports forum, correct me if i am wrong, and i actually posted this same topic over there as well for the fans who've come through, but i know guys like rock, hammerhead, (whose opinions i respect on the subject) etc don't exactly frequent talkbulls and it gets less than 100 hits a day. but thanks for the link to a site with very low traffic.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Oct 23, 2007 -> 10:58 AM) That is because Dice-K was not the second coming of what they thought he was. The Japanese hype is tappering off as these players are not all Ichiro, they are showing themselves as solid major leaguers that have some success and some failure. Remember in April when ESPN grossly over-hyped him. Ichiro is a superstar. Dice-K cost $105M, that is a a-lot of money, and he is not a superstar. I do not think he will be the be all end all that Boston expected and they were stupid to buy into the Scott Boras hype machine. Scott Boras hype for A-Rod is entrenched in the home run chase to overthrough Bonds and soolidify the record as "clean" that is assuming A-Rod is clean. A-Rod catching Bonds could be more important to the record book and more watched and rooted for than if A-Rod was chasing Aaron. This was a great post that was completely accurate.

Alright, I've had enough of this. I wanted Tyrus in the 2006 NBA Draft, I got Tyrus in the 2006 NBA Draft. The Bulls took LaMarcus Aldridge, everyone's concensus breakout player for 2007-08, and traded him for Tyrus and the ever-unstoppable Victor "they used to call me Dalibor" Khryapa. Tyrus has all the athleticism in the world, but get this... he can't even beat out a guy who was picked 49th overall just a few months ago. Tyrus went 4th overall (to the team with the 2nd pick). It's been a year. He should be blowing Aaron Gray away (and to a lesser extent Joakim Noah), and he's not. Why is this? It sounds like its his dedication and his being unwilling to show up for practices in the offseason and to take an active part in improving his game. Yeah, he can still score, rebound, and block. But he makes the dumb plays that make him look like he just left high school still, and it's starting to piss me off. If he were anywhere near the talent that LaMarcus Aldridge is right now, we'd have our PF spot locked up and the best starting lineup in the league. But no. We have a cycling band of players, two who play their asses off without the great talent in Noah and Gray, and one who just doesn't care who could own this town if he'd just give a damn in Tyrus. Don't get me wrong, when Tyrus is throwing down slam dunks and blocking shots, I love it, but the fact the he can't impress the coaches enough to get the majority of the minutes at power forward this season is a joke, and tyrus is a joke because of that.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 09:56 AM) He filled the role on that line that we need. Someone who is physical, fore checks, and scraps in the corners. This is the role that we need him to play with 2 more talented scorers on his line. Yeah, but for years he's been touted as all-world talent... it's nice to use his grit, but I want to see him in that role (ive seen it too, and everytime he gets going he gets injured, like when the goal post came down on his leg two seasons ago) We'll see, three points last night was sweet, but I'd like to see that continue. -
thumbs up from me.

Danks wasn't even supposed to be in the Majors this year and learned a lot on the MLB level... I still think he'll wind up being the best of them.
-
filled it out. two comments, question fifteen should have a "no difference" option because im still going to ignore/fast forward through them. and the way question 22 is worded is just wayyyy too biased.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 23, 2007 -> 11:46 PM) Also everyone's been talkin about Kane and Toews for good reason, but I think a guy who's slipped under the radar is Tuomo Ruutu. He seems to be playing very well on a line with those 2, it's EASILY the best for the Hawks. Ruutu is pretty talented, but unfortunately for him he's just a role player on that line. Even he said all he has to do is put his stick on the ice and he's going to get points. This line is dynamic, and you'd like to see them spread the wealth, but I don't think there's a more dangerous line in all of hockey going right now. It's awesome when the 25 year old on the line is the old guy paired with a 19 and 18 year old. -

As a Hawks fan (and avid hockey player... one of those kids who grew up with the puck and idolizing such "stars" as Tony Amonte, Alexei Zhamnov, Chris Chelios, Ed Belfour, Jeremy Roenick) this day was so worth the wait. I remember when I was a kid back in the mid-late 90's (I'm 24 now) I just couldn't understand why home games weren't on television. It never made sense, but it became accepted. When they were winning 30 games a year I was still hunting for radio coverage of the games while in college in DeKalb (the land of the dead radio signal)... Since the lockout ended, for me, Blackhawk hockey became much less of a must-see television experience, simply because the players were either injured or bad (see Ruutu the last few years)... then I became an intern with the Blackhawks two years ago and working in the front office it became oh-so apparent that the Hawks were stuck in the old ways. Everyone there thought that Peter was next in line (among the interns, its not like I sat down with DeMaria and had a heart to heart on why the Hawks suck). That would have been horrible. Rocky gets credit for doing the blatantly obvious things. Get rid of Pulford was number 1a on my list, but number 1 was home games. Having purchased a gorgeous Samsung Hi-Def LCD television, largely because of my love for the White Sox, Bulls, and Bears, I knew I would NEVER see the Hawks in HD unless they wound up on Versus. Hockey is so much better in hi-def (even though you could barely pull me away from regular def)... not only is this huge for introducing new fans, but the home games in hi-def will have even more people tuning in. People are hi-def snobs, and if they come across a beautiful hockey game in hi-def... hear the crowd cheering during the star-spangled banner, hear the fans CHEERING after a hawks goal instead of booing... that's going to make them want to be a part of it. Kane, Toews... there's going to be some rough spots. No team ever wants to have its rookies carrying them, but hopefully these two keep up with the good work and Ruutu pulls his head out of his ass until Havlat gets back. If Havlat can come back 100% and join this squad... we're looking at a top 5-6 team in the Western Conference, because I can't name a team with a better 1-2 punch in goal than Khabibulin and Lalime. LET'S GO HAWKS!

and Patrick Kane leads all rookies in points... i cant believe this.

Does anyone else find it absolutely historic that Tom Brady already has 27 touchdowns through 7 weeks? He's one away from breaking his own personal mark of 28, and is currently on pace for 61 touchdowns and barely 5 INTs. That's just freaking nuts. I think 50 touchdowns is definitely achievable, and almost likely. Their insane amount of talent mixed with a relatively weak schedule is going to lead the the best offensive season ever for QB... and Moss might score 20+ touchdowns!

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) Exactly. Somehow I won this week, but I think I'm going to go into "rebuild" mode after the Ronnie Brown loss.. Ha, I've got a buddy, coincidentally his name is Tony, and he has Tom Brady and Ronnie Brown, and is basically screwed now that his best RB is Cedric Benson... though if Tommy B keeps throwing 6 td's per week...
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) The fumbled snap near the endzone is overlooked because we won, but that very much could have been the deciding factor of the game. Its hard for ANY QB to hit Hester on that deep ball because its hard to anticipate his speed. No its not... you take the Flash, but faster, and you've got it.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 21, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) He was pointing to his helmet and was motioning like it wasnt working. Remember all my Griese slurping? It was for good reason. If only they'd let him call ALL of the plays!
-
Well, now I definitely won't tune into Sportscenter for the next 4 months.

Those cockroaches are toast.

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) Rockies, because Red Sox fans are the most obnoxious, annoying fans I've ever seen. Their feats of ineptitude and idiocy are unparalleled in baseball, and this includes Cubs fans. ^ that.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 21, 2007 -> 04:40 PM) Well that's just crazy. Jenks has had a crazy curve since he was first scouted in Idaho. oh do tell us your first hand experience with it mr. knowledge. oh wait, you have none.

The Toews goal. Very nice. If somebody steps into him he wouldn't have scored, and I don't know if Theodore forgot that goalies are allowed to move across the ice, but it takes some hands to get that on net. That was one sick goal. -
I just read the rreview, and cannot believe they didn't include motion into the wii controls? what's the point?
-
I don't think it should go in catch all... I've never even heard of the game, so was intrigued to read about it in this topic. I doubt it compares to MVP 05, but I am now wanting to try it.

Juan Uribe excels at being bad at just about everything... so I'm sure the Sox will pick up his $5 million option.
