Cedric Benson and Rex Grossman both suck

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 09:34 AM) The offensive and defensive line blew last night. Marc Columbo sure looked good for Big D last night... -
Cedric Benson and Rex Grossman both suck
Steve9347 replied to Steve9347's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Arguing for Rex is a lost cause. I was one of his biggest backers for the longest time, but it's outwardly evident that he is not an NFL QB, and I will tell you why. 1) He cannot do anything when under pressure. As we all saw last night with Tony Romo, it is actually possible to create time and complete passes even when heavily rushed. Grossman's continued failure, whether it be because of bad coaching or what have you, to step up in the pocket or move around behind the line is crushing this team. Without PERFECT pass protection, Grossman not only fails to complete a pass, he also fails to even get a pass off. As you see this year with Schaub in Houston, this cannot be blamed on the offensive line. Once Houston got Carr out of there, all of the sudden the line got better? I don't think so, it's the indecision of the quarterback. 2) Grossman does not throw well over the middle. Though many would argue this is because of his 6'1" height, I'd beg to differ. I think Grossman throws to the sidelines early and often because of his biggest weekness, his failure to look to his 2nd/3rd/and sure as hell 4th options. The first option (unless he's throwing to his TE (where you see success) is always outside to either Muhammed or Berrian. This makes it rather simple for defenses to lock down. 50/50 either TRIPLE cover Berrian or Muhammed. Though the WR haven't been helping Grossman, the reason they ALWAYS seem covered is simple... he locks in on his targets and rarely completes a pass to a reciever he hadn't decided he was throwing to before the snap even left the center. (It was obvious that his two decent completions to Desmond Clark and Greg Olsen were only made possible because of the fact that they were his #1 targets on that play.) 3) Grossman has lost this team. It's hard for teammates to have confidence in you if you don't have confidence in yourself. This team, though they are saying all the right things, has grown tired of making excuses for Grossman. Olin Kreutz is always the first to take the blame (for botched snaps, for bad pass blocking) but it's all mostly Grossman's fault. I call for, and as a Bears fan, deserve, the Mr. 5 mill a year Brian Griese AT LEAST take some snaps with the first team offense this week. 50/50, and if Grossman struggles out of the box against a Lions team that gave up 56 to the Eagles this week (After facing San Diego, KC, and Dallas whom all have performed quite badly on defense this season), Griese goes in. I think that people underrate Griese (compare his career 84.5 passer ratings to tom brady's career 89+ passer rating). I'm not saying Griese = Brady, but he was impressive in his last starting opportunity with Tampa Bay before injury, and will do JUST FINE as a Bears starting QB. Make the move now, make the move forever, bid Grossman goobye at the end of the season. It's Griese time. -
QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 10:33 PM) Really? I see Berrian getting seperation consistently, just a matter if he can hold onto the ball or not. Dude, he got separation 3 times tonight, and dropped the ball twice. f*** him. This is something that should have been addressed in the offseason... through Romo is the king of deflecting the pass rush, Rex could have had a comparable game had his receivers played the same way as Big D's. FYI, I don't think Rex is HALF the QB of Romo, tonight proved to me that Romo is here to stay. What a find for Dallas.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 10:26 PM) I want to see Bradley starting out there and Benson getting 30 f***ing carries next week against the Pack (screw Adrian Peterson's horrid blocking self I want Benson Benson and more f***ing Benson). Two things... I couldn't agree more with both points... and also I am 100% certain NEITHER will happen anytime soon. This coaching regime has proven one thing over their time... they are f***ing stubborn. As for tonight, I'm all for benching Berrian. This WR corp is a joke and gets zero separation. I don't see how the coaching staff doesn't go two TE (the only two who manage to make a play) the rest of the year. Moose has lost a step, Berrian thinks is 2004 and drops are OK, and Bradley is the 4th WR on a team without any legitimate options. We're not as bad as we played tonight, but we made fools out of ourselves boys. Oh, and having 5 starters on defense (from TC break) out of the game is going to catch up to us... and it did. Rex... give me Greise.. his career 85 QB rating looks a lot better than Rex right now.

big f***ing time.

Hey, heading to Dick's tonight, was wondering if anyone had any recommendations (other than not going).

Speed, Power and Contribution to the Offense

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) Craig Biggio begs to differ. Sorry, just because one asshole leans into too many pitches doesn't mean I want a whole stat other than "hbp" itself telling me about it. Take out the HBP and it's a more accurate telling of a batter's worth. -
Wow, would you say he's in trouble, or is this just a sign of too much work, too early, he'll be alright? 28 starts, 174.1 IP, 145 K's, 23 HR, 5.01 ERA I would have never guessed such a poor season this year.

plays this Sunday. Predictions of what he'll do? Also... Chris Cooley or Greg Olsen?? Take a shot that the Bears try to bring him in with a bang?

The best would be if Suzie f***ed Mike. /gross

Speed, Power and Contribution to the Offense

I like the stat, but think HBP shouldn't be included, as batters shouldn't have any control over that... it's blind luck. -

Since you like the nips... here you go. (i took the liberty of embellishing them a bit)

I'm interested in seeing Bono as a Ringo ripoff, but still... heard bad things.

It'll still be hard to get a competitive team in there when they are always picking off the scrap heap (and skipping out on players like Matthew Wieters in the draft bc of signing concerns.) Good for this guy though, and best of luck.

Who the f*** cares if Garland wins a Gold Glove? He's lost 13 games to go along with 9 wins this year.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) It's on there. Everyone keeps telling me to check that show out, but I haven't seen an episode as of yet. What channel has reruns? Just buy the DVD's... you will love them. I've watched all three seasons more than 5 times apiece lol. You can watch all three seasons at the following link (except the last few, I don't know why. http://www.tv-links.co.uk/listings/1 You can rent the dvd's at blockbuster, or the show is aired on G4 sporadically. I'd go with buying the DVD's, but that's because it's my favorite show of all time (sorry, Seinfeld.)

Arrested Development is listed, so this list is accurate to me.

Yes, Gavin, keep dominating September callups so we unwisely entrust you with a starting spot next year! ^^ ok, thats a TAD pessimistic.
-
I can't believe some people actually see a .370 obp out of Jerry Owens... you should be happy with .330 for christ's sake.
-
I don't see how the Sox don't offer Garland for Furcal, and how the Dodgers don't accept... it's a perfect match.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 10:41 AM) Because I am often pessimistic about players that I'm not high on, like Owens, Pods, etc. I'm very happy with Fields power so far. The one thing that's been disappointing is his speed. I expected a little more speed getting out of the box based on his minor league steal numbers. Tell me about it... I'm the ultimate Owens/Richar pessimist.
-
OK, so we've all felt the doom and gloom about this team and its particularly barren minor league system... but one thing is certain, Kenny Williams is DETERMINED to compete next year. Now, this may involve a couple of iffy free agent acquisitions (I don't know how we avoid signing Omar Vizquel, though it's the LAST thing I want this team to do.) It also seems like a lock that the Sox are going to get one of Hunter/Rowand/Fukudome (in that order). I must say I am at least intrigued by the idea that Fields and Richar might not miss. I don't see Pods coming back unless Crede suffers a setback of some sort... the Sox seem to be preparing for Crede at 3B next year. So, with what we can only hope will be a retooled bullpen, and a crop of young starting pitchers mixing with a rebounding Jose Contreras and an ever improving Javier Vazquez, can this team compete for an AL Central title next year? I think we saw this year that the Tigers patchwork offense (I-Rod/Maggs/Casey/Sheffield) is going to need a retooling, but their pitching should keep them in it for a long time. Cleveland seems to be in it for the long haul, Minnesota seems to be ready for a major organizational shakeup... the Royals are the Royals. We could be looking at a relatively winnable division. So, can the Sox win the 90 or so games they need to to win next year? My projections, yikes do I hate the top of this lineup. LINEUP SS Vizquel 2B Richar DH Thome 1B Konerko RF Dye CF Hunter (it its Fukudome or Rowand, they'd move around in the lineup) 3B Crede C Pierzynski LF Fields Now, Fields might end up closer to the top of the lineup at some point next year.. but it's fairly obvious we don't have a legit #2 hitter in the works for next year (now if we signed Rowand or Fukudome, they'd look better in the 2 hole... but e-gads, Vizquel will be leading off!), however, you can't argue with an established bat the likes of which will be at the bottom of our lineup. ROTATION Buehrle (lock) Vazquez (lock) Contreras/Garland (whichever doesn't wind up dealt...lock) Danks (lock) Floyd/Gonzalez/other? CLOSER Jenks I'm not bothering with the bullpen. To be honest, I think this team can max at like 83 wins and a 2nd or 3rd place finish in the division in 2008. Just my ramblings... a lot of my projections could change based on an ok return for Garland (willy tavares/rafael furcal would help the top of the lineup.) let the tearing to threads begin!

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 09:44 AM) No, but I'm not going to project Fields as a possible 400 homer guy just yet. I'm one of his biggest fans on this site, FWIW. and? I don't think anyone questioned that or really cared...
