  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 10:17 AM) I picked up Tre Mason in all of my leagues. Here's to hoping Jeff Fischer realizes who his best RB is from here on out. I want to know why there's leagues out there that he wasn't already on rosters after the previous breakout week.
  2. Hawks are stupid good this year. Might be their best team yet in this era.
  3. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) Many of us were fearing a bloated contract for Bickell when he didn't think he was worth it. You can't afford to overpay just for roster consistency in today's NHL, so I don't agree with it. I also don't know if that was the exact rationale - they may have just thought holy s***, Bickell is a top 6 winger, and he's going to keep producing at this level. A guy like Bickell, IMO, was easily replaceable, and obviously still is. I was and remain furious at the contract.

    Peaky Blinders is f***ing awesome.
  5. Spent all of last week in California. San Diego, then drove to Los Angeles. That route was nice. Not a fan of Californians. They all smoke and apparently half of them are homeless. San Diego is pretty darn nice - stayed at the Hyatt and the Sheraton. Los Angeles and the surrounding areas are mostly a s***hole. Good thing we walked Runyon Canyon Trail, went to the Grove, and did Disneyland, so we avoided for the most part the s*** of Los Angeles. We stayed at the Loews Hollywood which was super nice. Oh, and I read mostly bad reviews about Fox Rent-A-Car, but my experience was great. Quoted on Expedia like $574 for 4 days for Hertz, and $171 for Fox. Rolled the dice regardless of the reviews with that difference. Got a 2014 Chevy Cruze (funny, since we own one, felt at home), it was in great condition. No wait pickup in San Diego or drop off in LA. Very pleased.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) Steve, so let me get this straight...you've been working for this company for a few years now...I have followed this thread and read that you have been promoted several times in the last 18 months or so, your salary has more than doubled, etc. So at some point, the powers that be identified you as a top talent/successful leader/innovator and tapped you to lead a team to create and implement a separate product than what the core business of the company is, which is this digital marketing arm which you have successfully launched, but are still looking for your first client. Now, these same powers that be are thinking of pulling the plug on this project after like 3 months. Is that basically it in a nutshell? So say they did pull the plug, are they pulling the plug on the entire company or just the digital marketing arm you spearheaded? If the latter, will they pull you back into some other position within the broader company, or will they send you packing? Ultimately, you've got to watch out for Steve and Steve's family. I understand this is sort of your baby, but you've got a real baby on the way. Start looking or let it be known that you might be looking. My feeling is if these folks are bailing on this thing after three months, that this isn't going to be the last time you're going to be put under stress like this. I work for a utility company, and while I can start daydreaming about working for an organization that is a bit more dynamic or organic, there is something to be said for stability. There is something to be said for knowing the check is going to be in the bank every two weeks and it's going to clear. And there is something to be said for being on a career trajectory that is pretty much known, give or take a few variables. I watched a feature on Bill O'Brien, the coach of the Texans last night, and they were talking about how he took the HC position at Penn State after the Paterno/Sandusky mess, stabilized it, but then left for Houston after only two years. He was highly criticized in Pennsylvania for the move. Well, it turns out that Bill O'Brien has a son with a rare genetic disease and Texas Children's Hospital happens to be the largest children's hospital in the country, with many specialists who treat this very same disease his son has. The moral of the story is that jobs are just jobs. You make the best decisions for your career you can, and that may include loyalty to a company or to employees, but ultimately, you've got to watch out for Steve and Steve's family. Do what you think is best for them, and everything else be damned. You're pretty much on point with everything. Been here 6+ years and they'd pull me back in to the other side, but still, the product sucks, which is why they wanted me to do this in the first place. I'm just sick of the unknown. I want to work for some big badasses that aren't going anywhere.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 08:17 PM) If you wait until then before sending anything out is it a huge opportunity lost for you? Do you have a resume and application ready to go and a place to apply for sitting there right now or are you talking about needing a week outside work to get the application together? There's a decent opportunity right now. That said, once I flip that switch I have to flip it.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 08:05 PM) We could be talking a month, I was told today. Great management by the guys in charge. Or apparently if we close one deal, the current investors will float us for good to get started as an official offshoot. If I had three years, I wouldn't think twice and stay. f***, if they could guarantee the team 6 months I'd be in no matter what.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 08:00 PM) From what it sounds like, the answer to "am I horrible if I start looking" is buried in the "time might be running short for the company." If that's the case, and you're thinking about something that might happen in the next calendar year, and it would take a miracle for that to be avoided, then absolutely not. Start looking asap. If You're overselling that, and there's still a few years of security for you and 6 other people that will vanish if you leave, then I might be a bit more hesitant on that reply. We could be talking a month, I was told today. Great management by the guys in charge.
  11. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 02:38 PM) iOS 8.1 is out, and safe to install. Adds Apple Pay to iPhone 6/+ models, as well as fixes a LOT of bugs. I'll let you know what I run into over the next few days in terms of what's been fixed and what remains. So far: Messages app working better with 3rd party keyboards, screen is scrolling up when entering the app instead of hiding conversation text behind the keyboard. Apple Pay is very easy to setup/use for any credit cards/banks that support it. Please keep these updates coming.

Let me ask you guys a question. As you know, My digital marketing offshoot launched just under couple of months ago. Getting a new thing started without tons of funding is hard. The company I've been at for six years has a product that's old school, which is why they asked me to take my very successful team and create revenue. We've had some opportunities (300k in proposals) but are still looking for a W. We had some fall through that seemed like locks. It sucks. We've had to learn along the way. This can happen given time, but time might be running short for the company. It's extremely volatile. I have a baby on the way and am tired of the non stop stress. I'm incredibly good at digital marketing, which is in demand right now. That said, I hate interviewing. What's worse is that if I leave, the 7 kids working for me are f***ed. They will shut that s*** down the moment I leave. I really need to stop stressing and join an organization that is stable. Am I horrible if I start looking? I want to throw up, but I want to put my family first. Also, anyone out there need an incredibly gifted digital marketer? Thanks for listening, Soxtalk.
  13. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) Remember, the Hawks "don't number lines" Versteeg up, awful. Bring back Zues and go Kane-Zues-Versteeg. Hahahaha Back from vacation and this post pleased me. The Hawks are certainly trying their best to ensure they get the least amount of productivity out of Brad Richards as possible.

  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 01:35 AM) You might not want to give away the whole story for those who haven't seen it, lol... We kniw this truth five minutes in.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 08:33 AM) Need some opinions on this trade. Gotta give slight background to our league. It's my main one with friends that has been running for 7 or 8 years now. It's a slight keeper league. We have 20 rounds in the draft and anyone drafted in rounds 14-20 is keeper eligible and can be traded with the designation still intact. You are allowed to keep up to 3 players every year. I say this because involved in the deal is Julius Thomas as a 16th round keeper. It is PPR and the QB can play in the FLEX spot. All TDs are worth 6 points. Someone offered me Drew Brees, Jordan Reed and Roy Helu for Julius Thomas (K), Alex Smith, Rashad Jennings and Keenan Allen. Thoughts? Is probably hold onto Thomas. Brees isn't exactly dominating.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 11:20 AM) Give it a few more months (not sure when the due date is) because you'll start rocking out to disneysong pandora with your little one, haha. I'll be at work and all of a sudden I'll be singing...winnie the pooh bear winning the pooh in my head. Well, I already adore Winnie the Pooh. ?
  19. Th Judge was alright. Great acting, but winds up just being he story of a crazy old man.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 07:47 PM) Just so someone says it...yes it was. It was terrible. I liked the Transformers films better. (Personal opinion fine, but someone had to say it). Yeah. Man of Steel was fat garbage.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 07:32 AM) I guess Avengers 2 is going to be the watershed moment where Iron Man decides that superheros need to register themselves f*** yes.
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 10:36 PM) For all we know, Steve's singing along to "You don't know you're beautiful" right now. The best part about this post is I have no idea what that song is.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 10:31 PM) I'm gonna lose by 1 for the second straight week. You can't make this s*** up. My wife has the 2nd most points in our league and is 1-5. Fantasy football sucks.
