QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) This may also be a terrible trade in the long run for the Brewers, as they only have Lee under contract (team option) in 2006, and it's hard to believe that if he puts up numbers like this year in 06 as well, the Brew Crew will be able to sign him. Therefore, they'll have exactly 1 year in which to make a run at the playoffs with Lee, and then they'll lose him. ...and the Brewers aren't making any runs at the playoffs in the near future with that pitching staff of theirs.

What would you do if the Sox won the World Series?
Steve9347 replied to crash's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would be content in the sports world. Out of all my favorite teams (White Sox, Blackhawks, Bears, Bulls) I would be most elated if the White Sox were able to win. I would not stop talking about it for the rest of my life. If they won, i don't know what I would do, because I cannot fathom it. -
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) Oh, no. I totally understand. Shoot, if I was older I would question a 15 year old too. But seriously, Girffey is part his prime. Yes, he is still a great player and could improve the team but for someone to say that he is better defensively that Aaron....come on? Sure, maybe in 1998 yes, but now, no. He is 35 or 36 right now and IMO, he wont have any Bonds type seasons to end his career. Now, on the part of hitting against RHP, he is an upgrade over Aaron but to me, it isn;t worth the defensive downgrade. Actually, he bats .287 vs LHP and RHP so TIFWIW. just to make sure you understand, i wasnt even questioning your knowledge at 15, ive read your posts. i was questioning it as a 9 year old.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) So at least according to ESPN.com, it's Contreras against Millwood... Garland against Sabbathia Anyone know the other 2 slots? Will we see El Duque? (Has he received a scheduled date to pitch in AAA yet like they said they would with him?) Garland is going on Sunday, he's being moved behind Buehlre, who pitches on Saturday.

Looking at his stats, its funny... Though his HR pace is not as it used to be (on pace for 31 homeruns) Griffey is batting better than he did in his final two years in Seattle (.287 vs. .284/.286) When healthy, Griffey is still on of the best players in the game. disclaimer- i know griffey will never be on the White Sox.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) I appreciate your concern lol but when I was young, I would have very serious conversation with other people about sports. I understand where your coming from though. And yes, I say MJ play to and have strong recollection of him as well. PS- I'll be 16 in a month. You are the exception to the rule. I apologize for questioning your baseball knowledge at the age of 9, it just seemed from your comment you didn't remember how much of a factor Junior can be in the outcome of a game. Keep on truckin' and go Sox.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) There are alot of players that would address our weaknesses, and there are others that are more likely to be on the sox. Not gonna happen. Jr will NEVER be on the WHITE SOX Thank you. A breath of fresh air. Junior would make a lot more sense on the Yankees with their huge hole in CF and their huge pockets.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) Uuum, yes. I have been following baseball since age 6 or 7. I remember Griffey, ARod, and RJ on the M's. Your welcome very much. Age is nothing but a number and is highly overrated. If you would like to question my knowledge because of my age, dont. Questioning whether you have any first hand knowledge, as opposed to knowledge are two different things. Seeing Michael Jordan play while it is happening is different than seeing highlights of slam dunks. That's the same thing as seeing Junior Griffey change the game with his defense/offense as opposed to seeing a highlight of some homeruns. PS I just don't know too many 6 year olds who are that up on the game, let alone can talk about it. I don't doubt your baseball knowledge as a 15 year old, but as a 9 year old, its questionable...

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) http://www.dailysouthtown.com/southtown/co...nt/ladewski.htm Schmidt, Omar, & Griffey. Addresses all of our weaknesses when you consider Contra/El Duque can compete for who starts & who is long relief. The total $ cost in 2005 to acquire all 3 would be about $8M. Talent wise what they like in our bench & no less than Sweeney & Gonzo in the ml's. You have to be realistic. When Cincy & SFG scour our ml's for players they need they are going to lock in on these two. KW is not good at getting teams to take less than what they want. it...won't...happen

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) OMFG!!!!!! Stop living in the past man. Griffey is not with the Mariners anymore! You have got to be kidding me. I gotta agree with RockRaines on this one. Not to be a jerk Soxfan, but do you have any first hand recollection of when Griffey was even on the Mariners? You are 15, correct? That would make you 9 or 10 when he was on the Mariners. PS, look at Griffey's stats this year, he may not be the Griffey of old, but when heatlhy, he's outperforming anything in our outfield.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) If you don't believe KGJ is available .. read & learn: http://www.prosportsdaily.com/mlb/reds/rumors.html I will use my 6-inch voice for this one. It's not that I don't believe that Junior Griffey is available, I'm sure he is. Not only that, but I think it would be awesome to have Griffey Jr. and Frank Thomas in the same lineup. Those two were MVP candidates in the mid-90's. However, I know that he will never end up on the Chicago White Sox, and talking about it is mundane and uninformed. If you're going to talk trade rumors, talk about plausible ones, mmmK?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) I can't tell if anyone gave his lineup order splits, so here they are: Batting BA OBP SLUG HR 2nd 1.000 1.000 2.500 1 3rd .272 .321 .379 1 5th .300 .374 .413 2 6th .256 .302 .344 1 7th .258 .333 .333 8th .500 .500 .500 well then lets just bat him 2nd all the time then dammit. i think he's fine in the 6 slot. the reason his BA's are higher elsewhere is because he hasnt batted there as often. I think last year was an abberration, and he's just a .275-.280 hitter.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) We could only hope... Tell me how on earth PK is deserving? He isn't even deserving of an All-Star spot. My gawsh I'd rather have Timo as an All-Star 1st baseman than PK....at least his hits matter most of the time. :headshake well, he's deserving of being in the homerun derby, because he has 20 homeruns. that being said, arod has more, manny has more, and so on. pudge doesnt deserve it no matter which way you look at it.

QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 12:36 PM) does anyone else agree that this new format for the hr derby with guys representing their countries is stupid. this way we leave deserving guys like konerko, a-rod, manny aren't in it and guys like jason bay and pudge who has five homers this year are. what are your thoughts? Dumbest rule ever. If they HAD to get into the countries because of the impending WORLD CUP OF BASEBALL, then they should have gone USA vs the World. That would have given them a lot more breathing room. PS Pudge being in it is stupid. The forces that be didn't make sure that we had a White Sox player in the Homerun Derby, but look at all of this. When the Derby was in... Houston, they had Lance Berkman Chicago, no white sox Milwaukee, Richie Sexson Seattle, Bret Boone Atlanta, Chipper Jones Boston, Nomar Garciaparra Colorado, Vinny Castilla Cleveland, Jim Thome I find it a bit odd, and really suprising that MLB did not go out of their way to have one of our sluggers in the contest. Frank hit 40 + homers, and Maggs, Konerko, and Lee all hit around 30. What a shock!
-
WHY BOTHER TALKING ABOUT IT. THE CHICAGO WHITE SOX WILL NEVER ACQUIRE KEN GRIFFEY, JR! IT'S JUST NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! KW IS SATISFIED WITH AROW IN CENTERFIELD, AND SO IS EVERYONE ELSE. THERE WILL NEVER BE A JUNIOR GRIFFEY ON THE WHITE SOX!

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) I think you're reading too much into it. Sure, the pitchers are adjusting to him, but he's also a 2-hole hitter, and gives up a lot of outs to move Scotty over, so that might be a part of why his average is down. Besides, baseball is a game of adjustments, so the pitchers have adjusted to him, and now he has to adjust to their adjustments. Then it just keeps going back and forth. As far as I'm concerned, if he finishes with an average in the .280s (where he's at now), he's done very well. The point about him giving up outs to Pods is a very good one. Either way, he looks way better than willie harris ever did... I was just noticing a downward trend.
-
As everyone knows, Tadahito Iguchi has been asbolutely splendid this year. However, it seems that the league may have adjusted to him. Here are some telling splits. APRIL .333 MAY .275 JUNE .244 Tad is currently batting .250 in July. What do you guys think? Is the league adjusting to him and should we expect these numbers to continue their downward trend, or will he rebound. I think he will finish this season with an average between .260 and .270

Frank is our 3 hitter, and a perfect one at that. On this team, ARow is a 6 or 7. My dream lineup is almost what Ozzie puts out there everyday. pods gooch frank konerko dye rowand pierzynski crede uribe. rowand doesnt deserve the 3 spot.
-
This has been a magical season. I am looking forward to the second half, but am as apprehensive as any White Sox fan, and don't want this to be, great first half/decent second half/swept in first round. For the Sox to make a run, Konerko and Rowand have to step up and start leading this team. There is no reason Rowand cant hit .300 over the second half, and pauly can't hit .280.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 02:21 PM) Never noticed this before, but if you watch closely in that clip, right after AJ touches home plate, you can see Timo and Willie duking it out in the top right corner. Funny s***. yes, that is some funny s***. unfortunately, they gone.

in case anyone is interested, I just found a really good website that posts all trade rumors that they find, and is more extensive than the ESPN Insider that charges. You can click a link for a certain team's rumors, or just go with the newest. It's pretty neat. My apologies beforehand if anyone has posted this information within the last five years, because I know people here tend to jump all over someone for such a mistake. Pro Sports Daily

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 02:01 PM) Tommorrow. :headshake I think he was kidding, Soxfan1. Anyway. There is no question, it was AJ's homerun. That was one of the best moments in White Sox baseball, ever, not just in this season.
