I think we are going to like what we see in Dye at first. He is a huge target, and rather agile for a big man. I mean, come on, if Lance Berkman can do it...

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 05:46 PM) I don't care what this guy says, he has the best avator on the site. Thanks. Can't go wrong with Eddie the Eagle.

I must admit, I originally applauded Kenny Williams for dealing Esteban Loaiza out of town and getting the hard-throwing Cuban Jose Contreras. However, this season it seems that Loaiza has gotten his cutter back, and is having a very nice season, while Contreras looks like he did in NY: dominant stuff... no control/confidence. Here are the stats. Esteban Loaiza 5-5, 3.61 ERA, makes $2.5 million/year Jose Contreras 3-5, 4.34 ERA, makes $8.5 million/year I understand that Loaiza was a FA at the end of the year, but I'm sure we could have had him for $3 million or so. However, I don't want to nit-pick Kenny, because he's really made some incredible moves. However, I just wanted to bring to the attention of everyone Loaiza's turnaround season. Of course, hindsight is always 20-20.

1.5 hours left! CMON SCOTTIE!

Dye is big enough that it shouldn't be a problem. I'm all for this experiment, though I think it would make more sense to leave him in RF and let Everett play first. Dye is a big target though.

whoops, sorry, my fault

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) It's quite possible Pods is benefiting from a hate Yankee push Keep voting. Speed it up. Save the page .. modify the html to fill in the radio buttons so all you have to do is type the verification code. and how would i go about doing this? -
Anyone heard if Konerko or anyone has filled the final vacant spot on the US Homerun Derby team? That would be choice.

GAME THREAD 7-6-2005 SOX vs FISH

QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) Of course, but their NL Championship has a much more special place in my heart than their world championship, and I don't think that's uncommon among Sox fans. good point, osuna -
QUOTE(forrestg @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) Dye has a beautiful stroke and you can just tell . He's seeeing the ball real well. I think his average will top 300 before season's end with 30+ homers. KW did well signing him I think .300 is pushing it, but .285 by year's end would be great. Remember, when he was on KC he was a machine, and if it weren't for that horrific leg injury that took him so long to get back in shape, we would never have gotten him for 4.5 mill. KW, you are the man! Maggs... 15 MIL 1 HR Dye... 4.5 MIL 19 HR that's a close comparison

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) That was actually a very suprising interview, I really enjoyed it. Here's hoping Scottie is a member of the Chicago White Sox for years to come. As for music piracy, that has been in my signature since my first day here at Soxtalk. It is something I feel strongly against and have taken significant measures to see it is taken seriously in the public forum. I'm not on a soapbox preaching, I have a simple link. Like it or lump it. Any problems with film piracy? I downloaded Batman Begins last night...

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 03:39 AM) Hey I never thought of that, in a special ceremony Konerko should be awarded the '02 Derby champ because of Giambi's admitted steroid use! Yeah, and Frank should be awarded the 2000 MVP

The annoying thing about this is that it is Derek Jeter we are up against. If you look at the stats, its a no-brainer that Hideki Matsui is having a much better year than Jeter, and I think it would make more sense that he were closer to the top than Jeter. I hate you, Derek Jeter, I hate you! :fyou

I just surpassed the 200 vote count on the afternoon Jeter

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:48 PM) MLB just released a statement: "We are pleased to inform our loyal fans that voting for the final spot for each league will continue for another day. This extra day of voting will be slightly different than these last few days. Voting will only be allowed in New York, Minnesota, and the Northside of Chicago due to an unforeseen error in the polls. We wish to congratulate all of the players involved and God bless Derek Jeter." I was a little worried there reading the first sentence! good one
