  1. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 01:50 AM) I rewatched the prequels, which everyone hates, and have come to the conclusion that they are not a s***ty as people make them out to be. To me, it makes sense that the Jedi who become Sith Lords are whiny insecure emo teenagers. They don't know their path in life. Everything is conflicted. It makes perfect sense to me. I too just finished the prequels again. I will always ride or die with Episode 1 for Darth Maul and easily the best light sabre fights of any of the films. Episode 2 is beyond saving. It is a disgraceful film. Episode 3 has its moments. There is way too much CGI, and the acting is atrocious. I feel like those movies are getting worse with time.
  2. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 19, 2017 -> 08:48 AM) One of the things about Empire that made it so great was that it was character driven. We learn a lot more about the force. It leads up to an epic confrontation that Lukes loses and we loved it. Luke losing made sense and added to his character. He learned. He wasn't suddenly OP after little training. It's intersected by a subplot involving the Rebels and Empire that works, but doesn't distract from the main narrative. So true. Everyone loves coming of age tales. Luke grew through three films while Rey was doing advanced jedi s*** immediately (this goes back to episode 7 which I've praised and mind controlling the storm trooper). One of the most incredible experiences of my movie-viewing childhood was first watching Return of the Jedi and at the beginning seeing how much stronger Luke had become.
  3. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 19, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) The wife and I are enjoying Mindhunter, but man is it some dark material. Kind of puts you in a bad mood after watching a couple in a row. I adored the first season of Mindhunters and cannot wait for season 2.
  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 18, 2017 -> 02:09 PM) Personally I think the movie was fine. I think that if I was 5 I wouldnt have such a critical take on things like "Why was Snoke not developed", when in reality the Emperor had almost 0 backstory in 4-6. We've had, what 100 previous years of Star Wars movie history at this point? Guys with the power of Snoke don't just "pop up". While we had no backstory of the Emperor in 4-6, that was because it was a brand new universe being introduced to the world and everyone existing existed because movie. The emperor had plenty of backstory in episodes 1-3 because you don't rise to such power out of thin air. Snoke needed at least some explanation.
  5. QUOTE (Quin @ Dec 18, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) Building off this - I had no issue with Poe trolling Hux. Fit his character. Had issues with Hux being so easily duped. Eh, Poe trolling Hux acting like he was using a telephone service in the year 1996 was rather stupid.
  6. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 18, 2017 -> 10:09 AM) Everyone should re-watch the first 10 minutes of TFA and the first 10 minutes of TLJ. In TFA the First Order was ruthless and menacing. Poe made a quip that worked. Kyle Ren displayed his power by stopping the blaster shot with the f***ing force. On the other hand, TJL ruined the immersion with the dumbass exchange. It made the first order look totally inept. I knew right from that first scene that "this wasn't going to go as I expected." As stated previoulsy, I rewatched TFA this weekend just to make sure I wasn't being too critical. It was so much better in all aspects.
  7. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 08:45 PM) Talk about revisionist history. TFA received a ton of crap when it opened, and still does today. Audience score is at 88% vs Last Jedi at 56%.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 08:17 PM) One thing's for sure...young kids today (mostly) love these movies, but for those who were born in the 60's or 70's and grew up watching the original trilogy in the theatres, there's just no way they measure up. Part of it's due to advances in technology (CGI/IMAX) making it so hard to blow everyone away (see Avatar). The other aspect is that the original cast has become so mythologized in their 1977-1983 "selves" that nothing can ever beat the novel experiences of seeing those films...how amazing they were because they were so different from anything we'd ever seen. And then there was the action figures and TIE fighters/X-wings and merchandising and Happy Meals...the first movie that was marketed in that way and became so ingrained in the culture. Now, seemingly every action movie is over commercialized and merchandising tie-ins might be equally important to the box office gross. I think about 100% of your comment here is wrong. This movie was a pile of s***. Had it been good, it would have been well-received. See Force Awakens, The.
  9. Rewatching TFA right now. This movie is 10x better and so much tighter.
  10. 57% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is a bit harsh, but damn.
  11. So many precious nuggets during my Reddit deep-dive.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) They were pretty clear that he had already turned. Were they? Seems to me it went back-and-forth the entire movie. I'm fairly certain it was all a big misunderstanding...
  13. Not sure why people are spoiler tagging a spoiler thread. I shall not. It was enjoyable. It did not tug on my heart strings as much as TFA, but that was to be expected. The movie advances the storyline and elevates the characters who need elevating. Here's the deal. This movie had me thinking "what the f***" far too often. As stated in previous posts, there was a lot of cringe in this movie, Leia floating through space, the fifteen different sequences where just a little more time was needed, the entire casino part... so many pointless things that did nothing to improve the story. Luke turning KR was an accident? Please. Snoke is so powerful and can get in Kylo Ren and Rey's minds yet... can't sense the light saber turning at his side? Snoke's guard crew was definitely too hard to take down for KR and Rey as well. They just wanted a light saber scene in a film lacking. One would have thought 8,000,000 blaster rays without Luke even moving would have been enough to tip KR off to the fact that he likely wouldn't be killing Luke that day. We have no backstory on Snoke? He's just dead now? This all-powerful being was clearly around during the original trilogy timeline and rose to rule the First Order... and is felled with little effort. Ok, now that I'm done complaining and rambling... I enjoyed the movie, but I am shocked at how quickly hype can get out of hand and people can so quickly say things like "This is the best Star Wars other than Empire". Get out. 5 4 6 7 8 3 1 2
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 04:56 AM) I feel like we should put up a prediction thread. No

  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) Must watch TV - His 19 return TDs with the Bears He was a unique experience. How I wish they could have won that Super Bowl.
  22. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 11:04 AM) His numbers were the most accurate of any pollster. He was right... He gave Trump a 30% chance and Trump hit it. That's how statistics work. No one understands that, unfortunately.
