QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 12:34 PM) This is bigger than all those combined to me. You just said this was bigger than the Bears getting to the Super Bowl in 06. You are now not allowed to post in this thread.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 10:27 PM) I ordered one last night. Didn't get the 15% off...could have saved myself almost $50... I did however, get an email from UPS this afternoon saying they have received the tracking information, so it should be here by midweek next week...woooo You spent $330 on a jersey? What recession!

I agree. Best player the franchise ever had... sign and retire is at least in order... though his RH bat off the bench would be pretty hot!!

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 07:10 PM) I can't define it, but, when I think of a franchise QB I think of Tom Brady, Brett Favre, John Elway, etc. Well, i think you have a point there. To the Bears, this is a franchise QB, because he's by far the best thing we've had since Sid Luckman. He can still grow, but his INTs will probably keep him in that tier just below franchise... ie, 75% of teams would love to have him. I think we aren't going to lose games because of our QB too many times anymore... and if he DOES take that next step, you've got a franchise QB. Being 25, that next step is definitely a possibility.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) Since I'm not a local guy, Hub is supposed to be well connected in terms of Bears info correct? Absolutely, and he's the owner/editor/king of Pro Football Weekly, both the show and the magazine.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) Yesterday morning Arkush said on the Hampton and Holmes show that the Bears were not a factor. He also chuckled at the thought of Orton starting in Denver. Good points.

It seems like the edict came down from above for Denver to move Cutler for the first good offer that included two first rounders. Hub Arkush was on the Score and said the deal was practically done as Cutler for 09 1st, 09 3rd and Orton... like moments from sending in the papers. Then of course Daniel Snyder came in and offered Campbell, 09 1st, 10 1st, and for about 30 minutes, that was the deal that was going to happen. Angelo said "f*** that" and came back and added the extra 1st and the Broncos tossed in a 5th. I guess all the above happened in about an hour and it was a go from there.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) Well enough said than, LOL. I just want to find a way to get value for Deng cause he clearly doesn't fit in the Bulls current system. The problem is he doesn't have value. Hinrich is a better player than Deng right now, imo. Sad but true. It sucks too cause in the right system, Deng's a borderline all star, imo. Key word being borderline. Trust me, I'd be fine if Luol Deng was given away for a box of rocks, but no one would give you a box of rocks for him. What a regressing POS. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 04:40 PM) I wouldn't give up this years 2nd and next years 2nd for Boldin just because of the financial rammifications and the mistake it would be not having enough high draft picks to fill needs. I'm fine with what we gave up but I think having a guy like Cutler should allow us to be able to find a top flight WR a lot easier (via FA or the draft). If the Bears don't sign someone, they'll use the 2nd round pick on a WR (this is a good draft to have a need at WR in the 2nd round) and than go defense the rest of the draft (with the possible exception of a project olineman being picked). Good points, JG.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) I watched quite a bit of Bronco games this year. Partially because Cutler saved my ass in fantasy when Brady went down week 1. I could not help but think of Favre or Elway when he threw 30 yard laser beams that whistled down the field, despite staring down his receiver and the defense knowing exactly where he was going. I think the best part of his game (aside from the cannon arm) is what your sig so beautifully shows off. His mobility will make our O-Line look phenomenal, as well as open up room down the field. Forte is going to be a freak without 8 men in the box. Likewise, I think Cutler will have more open looks. I can't imagine the Bears picking up Cutler and Pace in the same day and not rectifying the wide receiver corps. If they really want to piss off the rest of the league, they should go get Boldin.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 04:13 PM) On a sidenote, if the Bulls lose Ben Gordon, I want them to sign Iverson to a contract and let him be a huge player off the bench. I don't know if AI would agree to that, but I'd be okay with it if he was. I really want Ben Gordon back and if the Bulls can find a way to bring him back while still being able to make a max offer at one of the big crop of Bosh/Amare/Wade/LBJ, than do it. He JUST openly said he'd rather retire than come off the bench. -
QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) Yes, along with two first round picks.. I think we have established the Bears gave up a lot but got something that they have needed forever pretty much. Yes, but it's just hard for me to allow you to skirt around like the big dog claiming the Broncos won the trade. Given the PR nightmare and the unknowns, if anyone lost it was Denver. But I digress... 2009 will be fun for both of our clubs, Carl... whoda thought that a year ago.
-
QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) And where have EITHER of us said that the Bears lost this or this wasn't a good move for them? I haven't, I don't recall seeing DBAHO say that either. Relax Steve, we aren't trashing the Bears. By saying it's a big win for the Broncos, you imply it's a loss for the Bears. And I know you aren't trashing the Bears, I'm just trying to figure out how it's an easy win for the Broncos. It's just lively, fun discussion here, brother.

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 04:28 PM) That doesn't mean the 3rd they traded is worthless. OF COURSE IT DOESN'T! I didn't say that. It does mean, however, that it's expendable given the fact that a 25 year old franchise QB was on the block. For series.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 04:18 PM) Steve, What no one mentions is that the Bears will have a 1st round rookie this year, his name is Chris Williams. Williams didnt play at all last year, so its more like we lost last years pick (which did nothing). Another excellent point. Anyone who isn't twinkling with giddyness right now just can't be a Bears fan (DBAHO - Cowboys, TRU - Dolphins... who else?) My entire able-to-comprehend-things life, the Bears have been dogs*** at quarterback. I'd MUCH rather they burn two first rounders on a given, 25 year old commodity at quarterback, than burn a first rounder next year after Orton regresses, and after that QB doesn't pan out burn another one in 5 years. F*** that s***... we've been playing the QB Carousel game non-stop... for f***ing ever. No more. Cutler will be a well above average QB for the next 10 years... and he's nowhere near his peak! The one thing the Bears have not tried is trading for the 25 year old All-Pro quarterback... hell, no one's ever tried that, cuz that s*** don't happen. The Bears easily won this deal. They got the known commodity. They fixed what was a laughing stock throughout the sports community. They put a band-aid on a sack of frustrated, pissed off fans. I'm truly excited about the Bears' quarterback for the first time ever.
-
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) Is it crazy to expect he'll improve that number, and Cutler's will go down slightly? Is it crazy to assume that Cutler's mobility is what made his O-Line look so good? Is it crazy to assume that it's Cutler's talent that made 4th rounder Brandon Marshall and 3rd rounder Eddie Royal look so amazing? It goes both ways, seriously.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) True, You said Denver won easily, which means that the Bears got fleeced. Other people have said the Bears got ripped off, etc. How else should this be interpreted? If your stance is that this trade may work out it may not, then I bet most people would agree. That's the nature of trading/ I suggest ignoring anyone who says that the Bears got fleeced and they easily lost this trade. We won't know the answer to that for 5 years, as 3 of the four pieces the Broncos acquired have no name yet. If in 5 years they've used their own pick plus ours to get Mark Sanchez and he somehow becomes a God, it still won't be fair to compare. The Bears left themselves a first rounder short this year. They still have picks in the rest of the rounds, including two in the 5th. In the scheme of NFL value for the Draft, the Bears have exchanged their first rounder for Jay Cutler, and have a comparable draft the rest of the way to anyone else. It's flawless.

I decided to throw this together on a slow day at the office... I'll use it in a sig soon.
-
QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) The Bears mortgaged their future for a guy who is 17-20 as a starter and has never had a winning season. If you guys wanna keep ignoring what I have been saying about this I can easily turn this into a why this was a terrible deal for the Bears and how they are now f***ed. Dude, you cannot convince me they mortgaged their future by acquiring a soon to be 26 year old All-Pro quarterback. So we can't blow our first rounder on a Cedric Benson this year, big whoop, we've still got our 2nd, we've still got a 3rd, and we have an extra fifth.
-
I bet there's a lot of dorks with the masking tape out changing their BUTLER #6 jersies right now!
-
Well, Urlacher was interviewed on ESPN Radio today and was nothing but giddy about the acquisition. He went as far as to break his media silence just to talk about how happy he is to have Cutler in town, and that he doesn't blame him for wanting out, because he was treated poorly.
