  1. Look forward to seeing Johnny back on the mound tomorrow night. With as well as Axelrod and Santiago have filled in, I have to believe they like what they see from Danks and feel he's ready to "make an impact."
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 23, 2013 -> 10:32 AM) Fluff piece courtesy of Scott Merkin: http://m.mlb.com/cws/news/article/2013052248335946/ One takeaway is a Hahn quote stating that switching to Phegley could have unintended consequences for the pitching staff. I could see some risk involved, especially if Phegley is considered a poor game caller. Having a full spring training to work with pitchers would obviously be more ideal, but at some point you have to roll the dice IF Flowers continues to struggle and IF you're still in the playoff hunt later in the season. For now, I think you keep rolling with Flowers and hope he can show some improvement soon. Yeah, I'm not buying it, Hahn. Flowers' defense is atrocious. How many more PB's is he going to get? I'll gladly risk the "unforeseen consequences."
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2013 -> 10:17 AM) Yep, that's a pretty awful excuse by Flowers. Also if it's true, then shame on Ventura for not playing Gimenez more. But it's only May and they've only played 45 games!! And it hasn't even warmed up to summer temps yet.
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 23, 2013 -> 09:28 AM) Nate Jones is awful. Demote him, please. I'd rather see him get fixed. A FB that averages around 98? Why waste it in the minors. You saw what he could do last year.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 23, 2013 -> 07:33 AM) I think Flowers defense was a bit overrrated because of who he caught. He was Peavy's personal catcher. He's not going to get a ton of 57 footers to block. Peavy has a great move, so he's going to get a chance with every baserunner. If he were Santiago's personal catcher last year instead of Peavy's, the huge upgrade over AJ defensively that was talked about, would probably have never been talked about. That's some pretty spot-on analysis right there. I'd never thought about that.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 23, 2013 -> 07:09 AM) Toby Hall vs. Chris Widger. Discuss. Widge. Always Widge.
  7. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 23, 2013 -> 06:58 AM) I would like to see my relief pitchers not go 2-0 all the damn time. Or if they throw balls, they are at least close enough to the zone to make the hitter at least THINK about swinging at them, instead of worm-burners like my golf drives. This is what is killing me too. Was Juan Nieves that much of an influence out there, because I don't get the Nate Jones regression at all. I seriously thought he would challenge Reed for the closer's role this year. At this rate, I don't see him lasting long if someone emerges in the minors. And that's a real shame because Nate showed so much promise last year. If nothing else, you had to think he was going to be the lights-out bridge to Reed. I think Robin's going to have to start leaning harder on Lindstrom. As for LH relief...yikes.
  8. QUOTE (Jake @ May 22, 2013 -> 05:40 PM) ? QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2013 -> 05:41 PM) DeAza was out stealing 2nd, was he not? I'm not even drunk. Yet.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2013 -> 05:36 PM) You don't think Santiago's one of the most valuable assets? what has he done? He's got a potentially great arm. But he hasn't show the consistent ability to control it. He had some clutch relief appearances and a couple of good starts this season and now he's the golden god? I don't get it.
  10. f***. stupid stupid stupid play making the 1st out at 3rd.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2013 -> 05:32 PM) It's just a puzzling way to treat one of the most valuable assets in your entire organization. hy·per·bo·le /hīˈpərbəlē/ Noun Exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally. Synonyms exaggeration - hyperbola - overstatement
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2013 -> 05:29 PM) DFA Greene, whatever. We have Sanchez and Beckham available Friday. I would rather sacrifice Spencer Arroyo from AA, who's pitched well this year and might actually have done well. Pitching John Danks on 3 day's rest or Erik Johnson on 3 day's rest wouldn't have been any better...but it's still a disaster.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2013 -> 05:21 PM) Santiago was throwing 94, 95 and even touched 96 on Saturday, according to the Angels' broadcasters. This is all on the White Sox. They never should have started him. You don't have him throw 40 pitches in a side session and then start the next day unless it's the playoffs/World Series/emergency situation. They're not asking him to go 6 or 7.
  14. i see this decision has some of you quite perturbed. It's like Mackowiak starting instead of Anderson all over again.
  15. Sale stubs his toe and he skips a start. Sox are very cautious with this guy.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2013 -> 08:48 PM) Not if Santiago can't make it five innings or 100 pitches. +1. It's a lot like last year when he was closing. He's great for stretches then loses it for stretches. I like him, but he's a work in progress. He looked LOST in Anaheim last weekend.
  17. I really hope we move up in the ESPN power rankings. That's really all that matters to me.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 21, 2013 -> 08:01 PM) Trade Keppinger, his value will never be higher! this truly made me laugh out loud
  19. so what's up with Thornton. Is he just done or in a funk? He was doing well earlier.
