  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 15, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) That's surprising. He looked pregnant in 2011, but not last year. He definitely would've tested positive for estrogen in 2011, I know that.
  2. Dunn in camp. Guess he welcomed a baby girl recently
  3. Keppinger and Rios also in the cage this morning
  4. I like Beckham's quote this morning: "Baseball Prospectus. I don't even know what that is."
  5. How the f*** does this happen to someone every spring? What an idiot. Wouldn't you try to have your visa issues ironed out say, a month or even a couple of weeks before you're expected at ST by the organization who pays your salary?
  6. weird angle, but the back looks pretty good on these swings by Morel Morel swings
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 8, 2013 -> 10:25 AM) Around Roosevelt and the Chicago River would have been spectacular. Open to the skyline. Could have had a party type area along the river. Red, Green, Orange line trains within walking distance. There could have been Wendella boats to take fans to and from the train stations, and it's proximitey to downtown and the people who work there make it pretty easy to think attendance would probably always be good. Imagine how easy it would be for people getting off work to go grab a game? It's the old adage - location location location. I hear where people are coming from, that the Cell with its renovations has become something a very nice ballpark. But you only have to look to Cleveland and more recently Minnesotta to see what a new stadium in a good location can do for attendance and revenue. I'm glad the Cell got improved. But the fact that they built a brand new stadium that immediately needed drastic improvements makes one very frustrated. Sort of like the turf at Soldier Field, only more frustrating. And I visited Comiskey in '77 as a kid and while I loved that old ballpark the guts of that place were falling apart. Talk about a "urinal"
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 07:08 PM) When did Weekly World News start predicting baseball?
  9. Add Jhonny Peralta to the growing list of names coming out of Miami.
  10. QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) If only Baltimore struck a deal first or the Sox had had different leasing options on Old Comiskey. I thought this design was pretty cool too. A shared complex with the Bears. Link
  11. QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) Nowhere else to put this but here: Randomly was on MLB.com and saw a link to this video of Big Frank's first Grand Slam http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_...5589557&v=3 And my first thought, besides the awesome hair, is how AWFUL the stadium used to look. My God that place was hideous when it first opened. Just stale and bland. Especially the Upper Deck. The place looked outdated before Camden even opened and showed us what new stadiums should look like for the next 20 years. Such Chicago luck. If only Baltimore struck a deal first or the Sox had had different leasing options on Old Comiskey. it truly was hideous. They were given alternate designs, some that harkened back to the old parks and could have had homeplate facing that beautiful skyline. And then there was a pretty cool modern stadium which I'm kind of glad they passed on... New Comiskey
  12. I'm already f***ing sick of reading how good the tigers are going to be.
  13. Seems like Cooper is all about fundamentals. Hear a lot about "staying tall" on the bump (EJax, Thornton, Floyd, Contreras...). I think when he sees someone who's making a fundamental error he gets excited. Of course, not all of his advice is well received (Peavy). I like Troncoso out of this bunch only because he looked so dominant at times with the Dodgers.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 2, 2013 -> 11:21 AM) Hawk on this morning talking about playing nice with Stone. Around 1:11:00. http://espn.go.com/espnradio/chicago/play?id=8908090 Wonder what the hell the problem is between them? I guess I never really noticed anything specific.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 31, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) Check Carlos Lee's walk rate his first season coincidentally age 23 like Viciedo. 2.5%. He made a lot of money hitting baseballs and was Viciedo in LF without the arm. As long as Viciedo is the age he is listed, there is plenty of hope he can become a force. I'm a terrible prognosticator, but watching Nate Jones in person early in ST last year, I predicted he would break camp with the team and contribute. I'm going on record now as saying I think Viciedo is going to have a huge year. I think some of the flashes of hulksmash power we saw becomes more consistent. Anyone check out the video of him and Lexi working out in Miami? Lexi and Dayan workout
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2013 -> 08:34 AM) The thing is I do feel the Tigers WAY underplayed where they should have been last year, despite the huge years they had as certain individuals. I feel like some regression is in store, but they might actually be a better TEAM this year. I'd put them up around the 95 win mark as of today. I'm surprised they didn't address the closer issue. Maybe there was nothing out there via trade to do it. I know they have some nice young arms, Roncon and Albuqueerque, but I think it could jump up and bite them in the ass again this season. I look for them to target a closer by the break. I think Hunter's production will be a non-factor given his age and I don't think VMart is going to the guy we saw in 2011. It's that Garcia who scares me.
  17. Certainly is some nice buzz around Mitchell. Good to hear that. Can't wait to see him in ST.
  18. Nice list and insights. I agree with the evaluation of Kevan Smith. I was happy when we got him in the draft and I think he'll be playing at the Cell sooner than later.
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 21, 2013 -> 04:05 PM) Easier to predict irrelevance when the Sox made him look foolish last year. He'll just keep predicting Sox suck until he gets it right. f*** Passan. I hope he's wrong again. I would point to an article (albeit slanted) on the white sox website where Kenny discusses our pitching staff. Like he says, you'll always have a chance with good pitching. Without it, no chance. We have a decent staff. Will the bats support them? That was always the question last year. Even with a league-leading average with RISP, they still struggled to score runs. Kind of baffling. And maybe Beckham's tired of reading he's a bust and finally decides to be a major league hitter.
  20. While I don't agree with his contention it's easy to see why he would project regression, what with the players we lost. I just think the opportunity for improvement is just as strong, and I'm surprised he doesn't look at that too. Maybe it's easier to predict irrelevance. Honestly, I really don't care.
  21. Damn this has got to be the most boring off-season in memory
