  1. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 06:17 PM) I'd never thought of that about Pete's teammates, but as I said in the past about steroids, they knew. I'm certain of it just based on my experience in the workplace. There are always people who have info, and they're usually pretty ready to gossip. I doubt an MLB clubhouse is any different than most of our workplaces. Exactly. Yet the rules instituted by Landis state that anyone with knowledge of gambling who doesn't speak up is also banned. That's how he banned Buck, aka The Ginger Kid, btw.
  2. This team has a pretty kick ass pitching staff. I don't think people step back enough and take into account how woefully devoid of offensive talent this team is. It's easy to lay blame on a manager (I do too) but sober up and lay blame where it deserves to be: the front office. This offense is HISTORICALLY BAD and that is not an exaggeration. We are watching one of the worst offensive teams in the history of this franchise, one of the oldest franchises in all of baseball. If the position players were absolute studs on defense then you can scrape and claw your way into winning low scoring games but they're not. They're adequate, at best. If you think Robin Ventura is responsible for the poor offense then make your case. I think he's a player's manager who's laid back but I don't know what you say to an Adam LaRoche to make him hit the ball. I just don't.
  3. Levine always has his foot on the pulse of White Sox baseball
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 11:21 AM) Being 100% honest, I know next to nothing about the case outside of what I saw in 8 Men Out. What are you all using as source materials for what really happened? I got way into it a few years ago and read several books on the subject. "Say It Ain't So" is a good read and a good place to start. "Burying the Black Sox" is another.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 10:12 AM) I think it speaks volumes about his innocence that people always contend for him, but not for Cicotte who was another dominant player. Eddie was dirty. Bad. I feel bad for Buck, as i do for those of you who have no sense of tradition. Buck knew about the fix so that's why he's banned. Curious...did anyone on the Reds know Pete was gambling on games? Why hasn't that question ever been raised?
  6. Really liked that 2000 team and had high hopes for the future. Favorite moments? The brawl against Detroit that seemed to light a fire... Monday June 12th - Sunday June 18th....seven glorious days in which we went on the road and swept the Indians and the Yankees, the best teams in the AL. Swept them. In their house. Favorite players? Besides the obvious HOFer, I'd have to go with Herbert. Dude was clutch. Yours? ps anyone remember that guy who used to hold up a sign at the start of home games, said like "stand up" or something?
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 07:20 PM) "We've been extremely open minded. Everything is on the table and we're looking at everything." (Makes no moves at trade deadline or even on waiver wire). Exactly. What else is he going to say? "We're really happy with the makeup that we have right now."
  8. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:21 PM) lol wut Key game in a pivotal series, dude. Crucial. Not saying playoffs are in jeopardy but this could force RV to juggle the rotation so we get Sale in line to pitch the WC game.
  9. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 07:57 PM) I will be the happiest man in the world if they just f***ing fire robin at the end of this season. Seriously the manager has a -30 WAR easily. That would be admitting a mistake. Kenny don't play that.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) Adam LaRoche will be their DH and backup 1b next year. What were the consequences when Adam Dunn came on and put up historically bad numbers? Nada. So of course LaRoche will be back. And guess what? So will Rick and Robin and the rest of the clown posse when they roll into Glendale next spring. However, doesn't mean the Sox will be a bad team. Because they have some very nice pitching, both in Chicago and on its way there.
  11. You really shouldn't post s*** like this because other teams who might want to hire Williams might see it. The internet never forgets man!
  12. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 09:53 PM) He's looked solid in all the games I've seen him but supposedly his calling card in the minors was ML ready defense. Made a pretty s***ty play on a ball hit into the corner tonight. First he couldn't find the ears then he bounced one to the relay man. But man he's got speed!
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 08:28 PM) If only Robin were smart. This makes too much sense I think he's handled Thompson very well, IMO
  14. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 11:11 PM) It's really going to suck if a team gets a wildcard spot with 83 wins, that'd be such a huge missed opportunity. I missed the opportunity to change my Username to OmarComing, which is, btw, awesome.
  15. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 09:34 PM) I thought it was more Pearl Jam. mud honey?
  16. there was a lot of teen spirit in this win, I could smell it
  17. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 09:12 PM) The muffin man? Who lives on Drury Lane? I'm a real boy!
