  1. How is anything Joe Cowley writes about the Sox interesting to Sox fans? Folks, this guy has a serious axe to grind (in his mind, anyway). He loved Ozzie and his sons, he thinks Cooper is a backstabber and he HATES Kenny for a number of reasons, primarily for wining the "Ozzie vs. Kenny" Reinsdorf challenge. He is licking his chops and praying for this team to fail and fail fast so he can lower the boom with all of his "I told you so" bulls***...and it will be even sweeter for him if Ozzie produces a winner in Miami. And keep this in mind: if he's rooting for KW to fail he's also rooting for Robin Ventura to fail. I don't know about you guys, but Robin is one of my all-time favorite Sox. I don't want him to fail and I give the big f*** YOU to anyone who does.
  2. I can't see how Rivers is hitting 3rd by the time they break camp
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 04:50 PM) The real problem of course is that if Tank doesn't come out fast, they are going to be tempted to bench him...and that's of course, the successful way we developed such bats as Brian Anderson. Please tell me you're not still clinging to the belief that Anderson would've been something, anything, had the Sox only given him the chance. Rob Mackowiak has suffered enough of your hatred.
  4. At least the Sox have reached mid-season form for GIDP.
  5. the only one I'm concerned about is Tank. Even if Rivers is s*** (again) we know that Fuk is an option in RF. But Tank needs to show some bat. I believe Danks will come around, as will Peavy. One thing about JFP is that he's still a crafty guy on the mound and he can figure a way to get guys out, even if he's not a cy young pitcher anymore.
  6. Rather see them clicking later in ST than earlier.
  7. On the bright side, doesn't look like a closer will be getting a lot of work.
  8. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 11, 2012 -> 09:24 PM) The only thing missing are spring results. Which probably has more to say about the lack of depth in the system than anything. I've said this before, but while I never really put much stock into ST wins and losses I honestly think some of the head cases on the team do carry it into the season. And as unfortunate as it is you better believe Detroit is gonna take their hot spring right on in to April so if the Sox do the same with their record it's gonna be a brutal month. Why so cynical? First, its spring training. Second, today completes only the first week of ST games. If you want to make assessments on organizational depth, the World Champion Detroit Tigers, and Robin Ventura based on the first seven days of spring games, have at it. But it seems a bit premature to me.
  9. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 11, 2012 -> 11:38 AM) I'm gonna be judging him on the two major faults of the last guy: - Slow Start in April/May (extending back to the Spring Training preparation) Just spent 4 days in the land of the sun watching these guys. Was there every morning for the start of practice and I have to say, having been to 3 of Ozzie's ST, and this is only my opinion, but Robin and his crew are running a tighter ship. Hell, Mark Parent alone is a huge difference. That guy is freaking awesome and totally in charge. I've never seen the coaches giving so much one-on-one attention/advice to everyone one from PK on down. Watched Parent working with Flowers on his transfer this morning for a solid 20 minutes. And since today was a road game and most sox fans didn't come out for the practice, players were happy to chat up some fans. Konerko says he's excited and I quote "We're definitely going to surprise some people this season." FWIW
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 01:29 PM) Jones gets the first two, and then Byrd goes yard. 4-1 Cubs That ball was tagged. Been here for a few games and the pitching looks shaky still. Hope they hit a groove. Dunn looks much more committed in the box. Just missed going oppo into the wind.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 06:56 AM) I'm through with betting on Konerko looking old. here here
  12. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) If the Sox are out of it early, he'll hit .265/40/120. If the Sox are in it all year, he'll hit .198/22/76 I wish I could say it wasn't contingent on whether his team is competing for a division. As much as I'm rooting for him to do better I have a feeling this may be spot on...that he'll get some jacks but really not be anything close to what the franchise had hoped for. Happens to every team at some point, you sign that big FA who just turns out to be s***. The Mo Vaughn's of the world. You can't predict it, it just happens. I could just see a scenario where Dunn turns out to be that guy as well.
  13. Still think you could get more for him as the season rolls on, especially if Matt does well in the 1st half.
  14. Oscar Gamble Pudge Herbert Perry Paulie Burls Robin
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 04:36 AM) He reminds me a lot of a young Paul Konerko. ha!
  16. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 05:19 AM) Translation - Go buy some tickets. You havin' a laugh?
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 03:07 PM) I don't think it is. He's pitched a total of 290 innings, period, with no high school or college background beforehand. He's barely reached double-A ball, only 22 innings at that level. He only threw 130 innings last year, and that was a jump up from 80 the year beforehand, so 150 total would still be being careful, and that's a full AA season. I really can't see any situation, no matter how much he dominates, where I'm going to want him seeing the bigs this year. If he rips up AA ball in the first half and then gets promoted and then rips up AAA for another 2 months, he's going to be right at what should be his innings limit, where actually having him make a start or two seems excessively risky and overkill. If as I suspect the Tigers are less than what many think they will be, and the Sox are more than what most think they will be, then why wouldn't you turn to someone who's arguably the #1 starting pitching prospect in the organization if he could make a contribution? These sort of blanket declarations baffle me.
