  1. If you've ever wondered who Jim Rome is imitating when he does his over-the-top gravely voice thing, it's the writer of this article, Hacksaw Hamilton. Rome used to have a feud going with the guy when was getting started in San Diego.
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) Does someone want to tweet this to Cowley and ask him why Danks would re-sign if he hated Cooper so much?
  3. Love me some Coop: Ozzie, Cowley and Peavy can go f*** themselves, thank you very much.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 07:58 PM) I'd rather blame Dunn, Peavy and Rios. This firesale never happens if we don't suck in 2011. this. We're stuck in between re-loading and re-building. Rudderless.
  5. QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:18 PM) Been aware of being a Sox fan since 1964 and Mark Buehrle had the best 10+ year run of any Sox pitcher during my fandom. Great talent (fastball velocity is just one tool); great command of all of the little things a pitcher can do to control a game; great competitor; great durability and dependability; great public ambassador for his team; and, by all accounts, great teammate. And what a great body of work: year after year of 30 starts and 200 IP; two no hitters (one a perfect game); feared pick-off artist who shut-down running games; 3X Gold Glover with some incredible highlight reel plays to his credit; 4X All Star; and, of course, World Series Champion, with a win AND a save. It's unfortunate that some very poor management choices made it impossible for the Sox to pay good old #56 anywhere close to market value on what's likely to be his last big contract. Pity. Like many, knowing that these poor management choices (and poorly performing players) led to an impossibility of keeping our own as one of those rare one-team players, can't help but stick in our proverbial craw in the coming years. If you ever happen to read this thread Mark -- thanks for playing the game we all love in the way most of us imagine that we would play it, but probably less than one in a hundred pros ever really pull-off. It's been a privilege having you as my favorite pitcher on my favorite team. I can't say that I'll root for the Marlins because I've grown to detest Ozzie as a manager, but I'll definitely root for you to take no prisoners in the N.L. -- perhaps an ERA title, another GG or two, how about another no hitter, and, while we're at it, maybe HR #2. Good luck #56! And thank you!!! WELL SAID!
  6. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) Agree with this except rooting for the Marlins. I will root for Mark, but that's as far as it goes. I don't really hate Ozzie. Long time player and a good one, a manager who brought us a WS. Glad he's gone but still a fan of the guy. I'll miss Buehrle a helluva lot more, though. Kind of the end to an era.
  7. LOVE that f***ing guy. So sorry to see him leave. That's life. Glad we have so much invested in the likes of Rios and Dunn to even enter into the conversation of re-signing the leader on the staff. Now I have another reason to root for the Marlins.
  8. I think Sergio was still a work in progress. He might be better suited to setup than closing. He might become a dominant closer. Still uncertain. I'll take Molina, not knowing what else could've been had.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 30, 2011 -> 08:05 AM) The key is getting the right package if the Sox move these guys. do you trust ken williams with this decision? i don't.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) I agree, and then you waste 4 million dollars on Frasor. My opinion is that the Sox don't think Buehrle will be able to live up to his next 4 year contract, and that's why they don't seem too sad to lose him. My opinion of Williams really began to dim as the season wound down, but with the off-season and time to forget the '10 campaign and evaluate where this team is at, it's hard to look at the mess he's made. I'm disgusted, with him and with the guy who keeps him employed. I don't trust a single move or decision this guy makes.
  11. It boggles my mind sometimes at how poorly this has been handled. That we can't afford a guy like Mark Buehrle because we're strapped with contracts to the likes of Rios and Dunn. How we lost Hudson for nothing. It's tough to swallow sometimes.
  12. I hope Mark stays because I like him, but his best years are behind him and if someone wants to overpay, good for Mark.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) Well whatever it is, the team has come out of camp the last 2 years looking like absolute garbage, to the point that April has legitimately destroyed 2 seasons. So if they're running a great camp...maybe we need to try a terrible camp. I'm only half joking. the Castanza approach.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) I've been incredibly unimpressed with the results from ST the last couple years. not necessarily a function of the work put in during ST. Sox (did) run a great camp.
  15. I look forward to seeing how ST is run this year. I've been impressed with how Cora runs things the last few years, it's a tight ship.
  16. I don't want Frank because I want someone who can be easily fired if he fails like walker.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 12:01 PM) Embarassing. agree. Plus, Frank has to throw out "clique"? Still has that axe to grind. It's too bad.
  18. Fans should be cheering a good-bye, cuz they ain't gonna see another Tiger game in Detoilet until next spring.
  19. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) It really shouldn't matter what's going on with the Cubs except for 6 games a year. KW and the Sox need to be more concerned about what teams like Detroit, Cleveland, and Minnesota are doing. supposedly Detroit is going to be in on the CJ Wilson sweepstakes. Verlander, Scherzer, Porcello, Fister, Wilson.
  20. This Mike North guy is now on the radio in LA, some syndicated show. It's agonizing and he's ruining my evening commute. Is he the tool that Ozzie got into it with?
  21. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 01:09 PM) i cant believe the guillen's , what pieces of s***. to think i used to defend ozzie Me too. But hey, he torched bridges when he was released as a player, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that he's torching them again.
  22. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:36 PM) From here it does look like what Cowley wrote is at least partially true. Coop didn't exactly refute anything in the interview and sounded pretty defensive the whole time to me. I don't particularly care, either way. I'd just like the front office circus s*** to stop so the circus on the field can be concentrated on. Kenny should know better than to give a clown like Cowley what he wants. I agree with you, he didn't really deny that he was going to KW with stuff, but as a company man watching the team/season go down the toilet, I don't blame him if he did.
  23. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) Yes, I've heard that joke before. When enough people get fed up with an organization, like they did in 2011, they feel it. Geez...give the man a chance. Bet the Cubs wished they had kept Girardi around. Not saying Robin will be that guy but I will root for his success.
  24. QUOTE (Real @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) the guy was f***ing retired enjoying life, and now he's qualified to be a manager? again, cut the BULLs***
