  1. there's something to be said for the "intangibles" that come through when a guy works his ass off after a pretty serious shoulder injury to get back on the field with his teammates well before expected, even when that team is not competing for the post season. I like this kid a lot. The second coming of Mags but only better, IMO.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) 2B will be Sanchez or Johnson, barring some last minute change. Really hoping Johnson makes a splash this spring and snatches the opportunity. The idea of him hitting 9th with spanky and melky coming up....that's good stuff.
  3. I'm disappointed as well. Why didn't we sign Scherzer AND Shields, trade for Trout and at least try to pry Kershaw away from the Dodgers? I wonder why I even root for this team. Disgusting. f*** Hahn.
  4. We won 90 games in 2006. Who knew the AL central was going to be so good that year.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 12:25 PM) I really doubt it. thanks, Dick. still making me laugh
  6. curse of being an Expo? If this guy was a Yankee, Cardinal or Red Sox he'd already be in. There are not many players who excelled at all aspects of the game. Not just played them well, but excelled. Raines was one of them.
  7. The opening of Cuba is going to be a great thing for MLB, being able to scout their league and set up a network for players to come to the US without having to sell their souls. Very happy for Viciedo, Alexei and Abreu. And just wait until Cuba can start fielding a national team with players from the MLB. Yikes!
  8. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 01:42 PM) Off topic but Melky's girl is niceeeeee. That's Doug Padilla in the red dress. He had some work done over the winter.
  9. Probably the biggest reason JR allowed these exciting offseason moves is because the Sox had the worst TV ratings in the league, and it's been going down since 2012. Has it made them better? Yes. But from a business standpoint, it's significantly improved the product on the field and that should boost ratings.
  10. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 09:24 PM) Nick Punto? Lew Ford? Bobby Kielty? Pick your favorite Grinder. What, no Corey Koskie?
  11. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 07:13 PM) It happens with EVERY signing or trade. Go look back at the Abreu thread and there's complaints there about the money / his "ability to hit the inside fastball"... Meh... If they signed Scherzer - there would be complaints. I totally bought into that claim that his bat was only slider speed.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 06:39 PM) I could not stand Albert Belle. And I loved the guy. So there you go. Problem solved. People can hate Melky and still root for the Sox. Someone start a fire, we'll all hold hands then one of the cool kids can close this thread.
  13. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 12:33 PM) It's pretty outrageous that these guys make as much as they do period. I just think "cheating" is cheating. Not sure where a line can honestly be drawn, especially since a minor leaguer makes less than a Major Leaguer. They all want to make more. Is stealing signs cheating? Is spitting on the ball cheating? Is putting vasoline on the bill of your cap cheating? Is claiming your safe when you know you were out cheating? Is turning on ventilation fans to blow in from LF cheating? Or are we only talking about degrees of cheating?
  14. Melky did the crime and then he did the time. If you think he was the genius behind a fake website, then that's a laugh. That has a third-world moronic agent/manager written all over it. You probably wouldn't mind if we had Miguel Cabrera instead, right? You could probably overlook the fact that he got wasted and knocked his wife around. Which is worse? No one's perfect. A lot of players used to bet on baseball games and teams were known to throw games for such purposes. Then they used the White Sox to make an example to the league. You used to be able to scuff and spit on the baseball, then they made it illegal. You used to be able to take greenies before a game for a bit more pep. They had them out in bowls in the clubhouse like M&M's. Then they made it illegal. You used to be able to use steroids with no consequence, then they made that illegal. Baseball players and teams are always looking for an edge. I still believe Roger Clemens is one of the best pitchers to ever play the game, I think Bonds was one of the game's best hitters. I think A-Rod is a rare talent. I think Q made a mistake as a teenager, and paid the price. Flowers was suspended. Bonds lied and lied and made a mockery of the game and its rules, as did A-Rod and Clemens. For that I have a tough time forgiving them. Same with Braun.
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 10:18 AM) a player with personality. the kind of players the sox need. Maybe he can join Sale in the competition for most "erudite" post game interviews
  16. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 11:11 AM) Will never have Gordo's glove. Will likely be marginally better with the bat. I like Marcus a lot more than that. To say he'll only be marginally better...hell, I thought he was significantly better than Gordon in the short time he was on the roster. And a damn good athlete, which I always like to see. I think Beane made a good move and I hope Marcus takes off.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 07:57 PM) For the Nippon Ham Fighters.
  18. Never thought I'd tire of MLB network talking about the Sox, but this has been on ALL DAY
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:24 AM) Sigh. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:28 AM) Him spending a full season in our bullpen is f***ing stupid. Dude needs to be building up innings, whether that's in AAA or the majors. Hopefully this is just some posturing as we attempt to move Danks. I'll never understand this sort of blanket philosophy when it comes to pitchers, rather than treating each as individuals. The guy hasn't even been to a ST camp. Let's see what the coaches find out. He could start in the minors, come out of the pen in the bigs or even start. What a quality problem. But to treat every pitcher like they're cut from the same cloth is a mistake, IMO, and I'm glad the Sox don't.
  20. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 02:50 PM) I want them to bring back Belisario as a MR, the dude has potential and he throws heat. He is going to be a good reliever. he was a good reliever, for a couple of seasons a few years ago with the dodgers.
  21. I'm glad we signed him, but I know I'm not alone in saying it's a shame Bellisario won't be given another chance. I lost 20 pounds last season when he came out of the pen. GIFSoup
