  1. Crede's back was bothering him yesterday...hmm.
  2. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 18, 2008 -> 01:06 AM) Hawk has been quoted as saying that Big Frank was the best right handed hitter he's ever seen his first 8 years in the league. I concur. I never saw a power hitter with a better eye than the big hurt. During his prime, if you wanted to get him out, you HAD to give him something good to hit, and he usually hit it hard. He had such a great sense of the strike zone, too. But what's weird is the dramatic drop off after 2000 -- a season he should've won the MVP (f*** you, giambi). I know he got hurt in '01 but he just never has come close to the same BA that he used to sport. Still, any question of whether or not he belongs in the HOF is just stupid. How easily people forget how much he dominated the league.
  3. this just in from NASA: Cliff Lee cleared for re-entry to earth.
  4. PLEASE take advantage of playing the worst team in baseball...
  5. schedule gets real tough after these 3 by the bay... 3 CLE 3 LAA 3 @ CLE 4 @ TB
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 15, 2008 -> 11:40 AM) I'd like to see Anderson play tonight, as we all know Garland doesn't throw a lot of curves or sliders. Anderson is one of our best straight fastball hitters. who would you sit? we're having trouble scoring runs.
  7. that was easy - voted 25 times in no time at all. perhaps this thread should be pinned?
  8. QUOTE (heirdog @ May 15, 2008 -> 08:06 AM) AJP-CQ-JD batting 2-3-4....yesssssss OCab coming around at the plate....yesssssss Vasquez better than Garland...yessssssss Thome getting 4 hits (2 HRs) today causing Ozzie to consider "trying him at 1B" tomorrow to keep it going...hmmmmm Swisher getting on base with BBs if not hits.....I hope so also leading the league in fielding percentage at SS
  9. i'd really like to see them shake up the batting order tonight, even if it's just for one game. If Thome wasn't a millionaire athlete I'd probably feel sorry for him - he's lost up there. Bat him 9th.
  10. maybe I should just give up on the sox now, devote more of my time to USA women's softball.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2008 -> 06:10 PM) What do you know, Thome whiffs on a 3-2 offspeed pitch. shocking
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) Same lineup for the Sox tonight. i just can't see keeping thome hitting 3rd. Hope he proves me wrong.
  13. i'm dying to see this replay: Frank Thomas is on 3rd with two outs and gets thrown out at home on a single to Sizemore. Wonder if he forgot how many outs there were... edit: never mind, he was on second. But man is he ever slowwww
  14. let's not forget those seven glorious days in June 2000.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 13, 2008 -> 11:31 AM) Uribe's 9th inning in game 4...not sure which was his best move, but that was definitely his shining moment. Sadly, it doesn't get enough credit. It's fantastic how much ESPN will slurp Jeter's two fantastic plays - the Giambi cutoff throw where Giambi is safe at home yet is called out and his diving into the stands play - yet both of Uribe's plays in that 9th inning are far superior defensive plays to Jeter's given the moment and the difficulty. Uribe actually went into the stands to catch the ball, whereas Jeter just decided it would be cool to jump into the stands for visual effect, and Uribe's throwout of Palmeiro defines the perfect play defensive fundamentals...he charged the ball, made a very quick exchange between glove and hand, and threw a perfect missile to 1B. I don't think there's any other SS in baseball that could have made that play (in 2005 atleast). I wish I had a dime for every time I make this same argument, especially to Yankee fans. The only thing I can say is what the hell was Jeter doing standing on the first base line? It is pretty nuts.
  16. i think Buehrle is fine. I think Wasserman has no business in the bigs. Any word on MacDougal?
  17. he also said Soscia was the best manager he's ever played for, not that it bothers me. What did bother me is after he struck out on 3 pitches with the bases loaded, at the bottom of that inning he's yucking it up with Vlad who was standing on 2nd base.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) And if we're going to DL someone, it has to be Konerko. Konerko is digging himself another big hole. He wrote off last year as a fluke, and I'll buy that. But this season is now passing the "beginning of the season" point and he's not producing. I'm starting to get a bad feeling about him and Thome. At least Dye seems to have bounced back.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:07 PM) The division also is a lot worse than I thought it would be, so I have more hope than before the season that this team can be playing meaningful games in July. Danks and Floyd are better than I would have ever imagined. keep the faith. Ocab will pull his head out of his ass eventually. And they did bring the tying run to the plate.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2008 -> 09:55 PM) I'm absolutely a Sox fan, and I think Ozzie's time with the organization should be done. There's very little energy displayed by the team, even though they supposedly brought in more spark to the clubhouse. Besides that, his decisions to pitch to Vlad tonight were inexcusable. This team needs all the help it can get to win games, and they don't get that from their manager. Vlad shouldn't even have been to bat that inning. You predicted the Sox would be below .500 coming into the season, so I don't see why you should be dismayed by this.
