  1. if it increases our odds of actually beating oakland in oakland, i'm all for it.
  2. I think the gaping hole is still in the bullpen, not the rotation.
  3. Rogers thinks the sox should be in re-building mode like the A's. He may be right, but with that mindset you'll never be objective about trading top prospects.
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 29, 2007 -> 05:26 PM) I saw it last night as well and enjoyed the hell out of it. That girl should win actress of the year awards. if you get the time pick up a copy of HARD CANDY. She'll blow you away.
  5. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) This should be in here: http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/subscribe...p-4690710c.html that's great
  6. interesting quip by Canseco (maybe already posted):
  7. Daryl Kyle? wow, it that's right then that explains a lot.
  8. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 09:27 PM) I agree I do not get the KW love affair about getting him, he does not do much for me. switch hitter with good speed and stellar defense? really?
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 09:43 PM) There is no reason to panic until Foghorn Leghorn starts to tell you how speed doesn't slump and that Jerry Owens is a young Juan Pierre. For your amusement though, Santo was on WGN radio tonight and his insane ass is all over the Fukudome signing. Based on Youtube and what some fool told him, his arm is just as good if not better than Clemente. Thanks Santo, you typify their sillyness. The signs of "its going to happen" are going to be back. I almost hope they make it to the world series, just so we can have the Tigers, Indians, Yankees, Red Sox, or Angels put a major league beatdown on them. did he really say that?
  10. anderson sucks, but hey, what's one more?
  11. QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) youre right, generally you tear up the minor leagues, win minor league player of the year, come up have some struggles but at a young age still prove to be a pretty good hitter, and then make adjustments and blossom into a 40 HR guy.... pauly hit 30 HR in AA as a 20 year old...and hit .294 with 25 Hr for the sox when he was 23....how again did he become a star overnight? THANK YOU. that was a dumbass statement about pk
  12. couldn't we make Uribe part of the deal, as well as Richar? I don't know anything about the 3B they got from houston, but there's always Crede, too.
  13. brian roberts would look so good on the south side. is there any chance?
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 08:21 PM) I would like them to rebuild. Trade Konerko, Dye, Buerhle, Contreras, Vazquez, Cabrera. Play for 3 years from now. It worked for Larry Himes in 1987. This was a horrible team last year. I can live with Owens in CF if they are rebuilding. If they are trying to win, they are kidding themselves if he's there everyday. I look at last year sort of like I looked at CLE in '06. Everyone expected them to be great after making a run at the sox and winning 90+ in '05, but it was a down year for the whole team. At least that's what i'm hoping for. The Sox followed up two 90 win seasons with a dud. The key again will be pitching. As terrible as the offense was last season, the bullpen was a complete and utter disaster. Hang that one on kenny. The rest...?
  15. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 12:08 PM) I wish we could be in the National League where we'd have a fighting chance! Literally: Here, it's hard to have a fighting chance with fifty cents, restrictions with Scott Boras and no farm, I guess. Doesn't help when the huge payrolls are in the East, Detroit's spending money, four of the better GMs in baseball are in your division and the division is stacked. Okay, I see your point. But I still think he's just reeling from the frustration. He'll make some deals - whether they're good or bad we'll see. But after last year's debacle with the bullpen I don't see where he should be getting much slack from Reinsdorf.
  16. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 08:27 AM) Sounds like an admission that we don't have a fighting chance. that's funny, i didn't get that at all. Just sounds like some frustration from a very competitive guy (and I'm not a ra-ra Kenny guy). What exactly sounded like a concession?
  17. yikes - CLE and DET are going to be good for the next few years. this yet again makes me very happy that when they had the chance, the sox stepped up and won it all.
  18. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 09:35 AM) All three of those back end guys make me nervous. As people are saying, chances are, 1 or 2 of them will flop. Also though, chances are, 1 of them will probably do quite well. Then there is the outside chance that all 3 flop, or all 3 succeed, but neither of those scenarios is likely. So since everyone is discussing who will do badly... anyone want to guess who is most likely of those three to have a good season? I say Danks. I agree that he had trouble getting the third out many times and that he's probably learned to pitch to contact. He'll have a better infield behind him this year, too. I keep thinking about what Hunter said about him last year, that this kid is going to be nasty.
  19. QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 07:23 AM) Danks and Floyd don't worry me as much as Contreras as our #3. They all worry me but we've got who some consider the worst starting pitcher in baseball last season who may or may not be 65 years old in the 3 spot. I know I should be worried about Contreras, but I have a feeling he's going to rebound and have a solid season. After him is when I get nervous.
  20. any more news coming out on this deal? Brian Roberts would solve many problems indeed. why couldn't the sox include Richar in the trade? Can you imagine how solid that double play combo would be at SS and 2B?
  21. QUOTE(scenario @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 08:35 PM) From a Trib story tonight... "For the first time, Brian is approaching this like a professional. He works out twice a day and doesn't go out at night. He's working with a top professional trainer and with a nutritionist. He's very focused."[/i] Interesting 'confession' by an agent. I agree, that is a very telling point for all of those who think he got screwed by the sox last season. Ozzie hinted at his partying and lack of focus, if you recall. And got ripped for it, of course.
  22. this is a weak FA class and the hottest trade prospect in years slipped through our grasp. it's not the worst thing to have happen. detroit gave up a lot for those two guys.
  23. off topic: I just read that the cubs and orioles are talking about a brian roberts trade. I didn't realize he was available. Would love to see Kenny try and steal that guy. Wonder what it would take...
  24. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 01:14 PM) Sure because the 05 AL Central is the same as the monster division we have before us. The tigers and the royals in 05 were both doormats. Its not the same. how true, good point. But I'm not conceding anything to the tigers (or the Indians). They made it to the WS then went out and added Sheffield and everyone was handing it to them. Sound familiar?
  25. Dodgers need a 3B...wish there was a deal to be made with them for Kemp.
