  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 10:11 AM) Ozzie's wife told Cabrera about it, after Ozzie called her and told her he was dealt. Everyone is saying what a pain in the ass the Marlins have been to deal with. This couldn't fall through, could it? Keep Cabrera out of the AL Central, unless he's with the White Sox. This deal is not going to fall through. (I write this because I'm usually wrong, and can hope I am again)
  2. miggy's coming to a division with a lot better pitching than the NL east. we'll see. Again, Detroit's staff doesn't scare me one bit.
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 09:24 AM) If people are so insistent on believing that KW fouled up and we're screwed no matter what this year because the Tigers and Indians are so good, then wasting money locking ourselves in to long term, piecemeal upgrades is not going to solve that problem. excellent point. I'd like to see the Sox try and add some speed and let the chips fall where they may this season.
  4. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) Even without Sheffield for awhile, Detroit's offense is top-notch. and cleveland's not going anywhere and minny might just stick with johan and liriano to see how far they can go. sox and royals will be battling it out in the dark of the cellar, I fear.
  5. QUOTE(max power @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 04:05 PM) That's what I'm saying. Hopefully one of fields or danks have huge years. I still not going to write this team off. We don't even know what we have in fields, danks, richar, quetin and possibly owens. If those guys live up to their potential, and we play well in our division we still have a chance. just remember what Jim Thome was supposed to bring to a defending WS champion. Not a knock on Jim, just things don't always work out. Still, it's a great move by Detroit and I tip my hat to them. Their pitching remains a hole, however. Their pen struggled and Bonderman seems to have hit a snag in his development. Compared to the White Sox, their definitely better on paper still.
  6. wasn't fields on pace to hit 50 this year? just saying
  7. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) I read (can't remember where, now) yesterday Rowand was looking for 5 years and $60 million. personally, i think it's a pretty reasonable deal. I think Rowand has improved as a player and deserves that kind of money.
  8. The LA Times is reporting this morning that Jones is looking for a deal that exceeds Hunter's and that Rowand isn't far behind that.
  9. QUOTE(max power @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 07:13 AM) I think jose is vastly undervalued on the trade market(not the cash market) right now. I think he might return to form in '08. He had a solid last month and looks to have his confidence back. I agree completely. I think he's going to surprise some people. I don't know how old he is, but he's in great physical condition. I think he's also determined to prove people wrong.
  10. I hope they don't overpay for this guy - give Fields a shot.
  11. I got "Who's on Third" for Christmas when I was 14 - it's an awesome read for fans with a detailed history of our beloved Sox. Lots of pictures, too!
  12. I would get excited about Crisp. I think there's a reason that Francona calls him the best CF he's seen. Hunter was courtside at the Laker game last night, sucking up the socal scene. Glad we didn't overpay for him.
  13. QUOTE(PorkChopExpress @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 12:48 PM) He is choice 1B for any of the teams looking to sign him. They all wanted Hunter first. Dodgers never even met with Hunter. Ned and Joe want Rowand.
  14. wonder how Rowand feels about being choice "1B"
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 12:29 PM) Wow, two bad moves by the angles already. That contract is going to cause a lot of headaches in southern cal. With all that money tied up, they better hold on to those young players. they're trying to win NOW, and that's the difference. I think Moreno will worry about the future when it arrives, and I agree there will be headaches.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 11:16 PM) I think this acquisition basically makes Miguel Cabrera a lock to go to the Angels. that's what I hear, too. That and Rowand is getting ready to sign with the Dodgers.
  17. interesting bit about melky cabrera and the yankees making a run at hunter. He definitely wants the spotlight and where better than NY?
  18. stupid question: has minny completely ruled out trying to re-sign hunter?
  19. A friend who works for the dodgers and was at the groundbreaking yesterday for the new complex in Glendale says it's going to be sweet! He also "hinted" that the dodgers are very interested in one aaron rowand, which leaves me to wonder, are we going to get stuck overpaying for andruw jones after hunter signs with texas? (at least i sourced it!)
  20. QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) Pods doesn't need luck, he's got.... it does keep me from pitying the man. I think his work on the basep aths in the first half of '05 sparked this team and set the tone for the season. I can't say enough about that. But I'm glad this move has been made...finally.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 12:08 PM) Fields really isn't that athletic on the field. You would never know he was a collegiate QB. I'm one of his biggest fans on this site, but I was kind of disappointed in his speed. really?? I'm the opposite.
  22. Crisp. Great defense, switch hitter with speed.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) Cabrera is a real baseball player unlike a lot of the guys we've been forced to watch on the South Side over the years. He makes some dazzling plays going to his right. Always fun to watch. I like the fact that he gets the bunt down, a sight sorely missing last season. I just hate giving up pitching....
