  1. I certainly hope there is something brewing. Trading away a 28 y/o pitcher in his prime for a 33 y/o SS doesn't make much sense right now.
  2. It's sounding like LA's first choice is Rowand, and his agent is meeting with the team. Rowand left a good impression on Torre from that wild game in the bronx where he was catching everything hit his way.
  3. you know it's a slow news day when you're reading an interview with brooks boyer.
  4. If Hunter can get that from Texas then it's a no-brainer, he has to take it. At this stage in his career he's got to go where the $ is, not where they have nice playing turf.
  5. QUOTE(forrestg @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 10:54 AM) All this talk about bullpen relief, shortstop, centerfield how about a catcher? If AJ who is a great hitting catcher but I believe there are better defensive catchers.. How about a catcher to back up aj or eventually replace him. his routine is getting old - pouting after every bad at bat (lots of pouting this season).
  6. I'd rather see them bring back manos to play the role of utility infielder, if we're digging into the alumni bag.
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 08:26 AM) I've read somewhere that it is highly unlikely the Dodgers are going to be in the ARod sweepstakes. mccourt's been making money hand over fist and not spending it. With Torre in charge, he's gonna have to pony up. It's one of the richest franchises in the league.
  8. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 01:27 PM) Greene or Furcal = happy
  9. As long as people don't start referring to him as "Tori" then I'm cool with it. That, and he has to take out Mauer at the plate. Fair is fair.
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 03:02 PM) Man, that sucks. it really does. what a freak accident.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 07:48 AM) Its over 30 million a year. EVERY team is making this decision based on money. and it's sounding like Detroit might just pony up for him, if rumors are to be believed. At least they'll make a play for his services. That would be a scary lineup.
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) The White Sox did screw Anderson. They threw him in CF on a defending championship team, when apparently he wasn't ready to handle it QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 04:58 PM) BS he got a fair shot in 2007. His spring was just as good as Erstad's. I'm confused. How does one bad season in the bigs earn you the inside edge over a gold-glove veteran, albeit one on the downside of his career? They gave him a mighty nice signing bonus, flew him to Dodger stadium to take BP with the team after he signed, put him in the dugout during a great post-season run and traded away probably the most popular player on the team to make room for him, then handed him the job in '06 with no competition and he flopped. How does this translate into screwing a guy? Some seem to think the sox are running a daycare center. And now he's whining? They drafted a dud. Move on.
  13. QUOTE(Allsox @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 11:27 AM) "The brilliant Mariano Rivera, probably the only flaw he's made in a historic career over the postseason, if he got those three outs (in the ninth inning of Game 4), Alex would have been in the World Series and he would have been held to have a great postseason." well, he also blew the save in '01 against the d-backs in game 7, which ironically saved his life. If NY had won he was scheduled to fly on the doomed american airliner that crashed in Queens a few days later. Since there was no parade to attend, he flew out earlier to Puerto Rico. It's a lose-win scenario if there ever was one.
  14. Has so much analysis ever been given to two completely "impact-less" players? Change of direction - would love to see KW keep Kerry Wood in Chicago.
  15. QUOTE(max power @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 05:21 PM) Tired because you don't have any reasonable counter argument? Counter argument to what? It's tired because this board had about 30 brian anderson threads going last spring all discussing the same idiotic topic of who deserved to play CF coming out of ST.
  16. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 06:32 PM) These two moves are not a surprise. Cutting loose Podsednik and Cintron is next. and Uribe. No way that guy is worth 5mil
  17. QUOTE(max power @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) I exagerrated a little. But I don't understand how you can make the decision to start Erstad, when brian is playing better than him in every facet of the game. Then to top it off, ozzie retards any growth or momentum brian may have gotten by allowing him to get an at bat about every other day. Now they want him to get some at bats? Gimme a f***ing break. this argument is soo tired. Who gives a s*** about some prospect who can't hit MLB pitching?
  18. who cares? he was an awful draft pick. KW should be ashamed of hanging onto him and letting CY go.
  19. QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 09:23 AM) I am sure the sox will not just give Richar the spot starting ST. They never do that...well almost never. Even if they know who will ultimately win, *cough Erstad, they still like to give the impression of competition. coming off that gangbuster season in 06, anderson got screwed.
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 11:31 AM) It appears that the Dodgers are willing to move Kemp as there are some concerns over his attitude. The guy is an extreme talent though and I would, at this point, make a Garland for Kemp deal straight up (don't know if the Dodgers bite or not). Kemp gives the Sox a CF of the present and future (he could also play RF) and than leaves the Sox with only one hole to fill, SS (maybe they could pull a bigger deal involving Garland/Others for Furcal/Kemp). I don't think they have the resources to get both, but I do think Kemp in CF would be a major coup, especially as it would mean they don't have to give out a huge contract to Hunter/Rowand/Jones. I would be stunned if the dodgers gave up Kemp, but most grateful.
  21. There's no need to sign him or trade him right now. If Joe comes back and plays well, you trade him before the deadline (if we're out of it) or make a run with him (if we're in it). You'll get more value for sure and it's not like the Sox haven't kept guys in their walk year. If he's terrible and/or still plagued by the injury, then it's the same as trading him now. You'll get nothing in return. You let him walk at the end of the season.
  22. When Danks is at his best he's far more nasty than bmac, IMO. So he got hit around a bit in his first year in the bigs. It was a good year for it, as it turned out. Let's see how he responds next year. I think he's got great potential. He attacks hitters and doesn't back off, which I really like. Yes, he leaves too many out over the plate. But that's subject to change, possibly.
  23. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 20, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) Choke? Hilarious. These are the two best teams in baseball facing off against each other. Both lineups are extremely tough. Yeah, they're might be some nerves at work here but I love that it can never just be one team is better than the other (on that night) -- there's always got to be a side story. If someone would've told me before the series that it didn't go six or seven games, I would've been shocked. Their 19 game winner didn't make it out of the third. Their ace got shelled in game 5. Hafner is lost at the plate. I think it's fair to say what's happening to the Indians, at least some of them, is a choke job.
